Light continued to fall, landing on all fours with his eyes closed on the outside of the skeletal structure. He didn't have time to think things through clearly and rationally, so he simply scrambled to the whole he made and summoned forth a massive quantity of water to force inside, trying the best he could to try to blow the bones apart from sheer internal pressure. "Leave us alone!" he shouted.

A star fell from the sky, leaving a long streak of white behind it. Heinmir smiled and felt the grass prickle his skin as he turned it to it's side where his eyes fell on a woman with skin as dark and gray as his, eyes a glowing dark blue and a long dark braid. She turned his head towards him and smiled, his pulse quickened at the sight of the goddess before him, his mouth felt dry, not from fear but from nervousness. She reached out with a hand and gently stroke his cheek with her warm and soft hand before leaning closer to lock lips with him. The kiss lasted for several minutes before they parted, just to look into each others eyes and smile.
"Heinmir my love, never leave me, I wouldn't survive the pain that my heart would feel for the loss of yours..."

Eyes snapped open and he tried to draw a deep breath, only to find that he couldn't. Pain assailed him from everywhere, panic stirred within him and he found himself to weak to even flail with his arms or legs. in front of him stood the dragon, it's scaly hand around his throat, slowly crushing his windpipes and draining him of oxygen. Black dots started to fill his vision and his face felt very hot, like all the blood in it was going to start to boil at any second.
"Sim......ei.............ra" Heinmir gurgled and felt his mouth overflow with mucus,drool and blood.

A spear of earth rises into the angel's barrier, ramming it at full strength. As this happens, another one rises beneath and behind Kutask, flinging him into the barrier as he strikes with his claw, covered in rock.

Yeria looked totally stunned at the very thought that she had died twice and she just stared at the spectacle while trying to handle that information but it just shocked her enough to paralyze her.

I... I died... TWICE?!

She thought really stunned, this didn't make any sense. If she was dead how was she still moving around?

Lag looked at the monster. He could not be defeated! There was no time for a new strategy!

Lag began to despair as he created another windslash against the creatures chest... the last one.

Gwen groaned a little as her arm reached out and she grabbed onto the dragon's foot. "Sa kaneru da Telethropos... the fires of hell..." She said before starting to laugh insanely as her body lit with black fire, which spread to the dragon, immediately burning away at the flesh as if it were kerosene. "This won't kill you... but it'll seal your magic untill i release it, which won't be anytime soon..." Gwen said as her body burned away.

Lag's windslash was consumed by the immense heat of the room. Apparently wind can't hold when heat energy surging in the area.

As Light unleashed the fury of water, lava filled the cavity. Even the massive quantities of water could not hold the molten rock back. The beast tried to push itself forward, but Light's attack held it back. "You will die here!" The roar pierced through Light and Lag's heads. A swirl of flames surrounded Light and stopped his water attack.

At this point, neither Wisdom or Peace could save them. Each second passed by slowly, as the lava sped upwards... then without warning, the skeleton creature let out a large shriek of pain. Instantly, the fire around Light dissipated, the beast burnt into ash, the lava below drained away, and the temperature dropped. A flooring of rock formed directly beneath the two key-wielders. The burns and ear damage to both were instantly removed.

Literally in seconds, Lag and Light went from nearly dying to winning without reason. What happened? Either way, they were alive. They won.

Two wisps lifted out of the ground. "Heheh. Serves him right for trying to combine death and fire." Lag instantly recognized the voice of one. The sarcastic voice spoke to Lag before around when he received his key and right before he met Light.

The second nodded. "You two won. Congratulations." This voice was sweet and calm. Light recognized this as the one. She had spoken to him in his mind several times. "You won once you opened the chest. Death's heart can't stand Fire's heat."

"I don't think so!" The angel yelled holding his barrier against Kutask's claw attack. A platform of earth formed underneath him and stopped the spear completely. "Gerrr..." Things seemed to be going wrong for the angel, though. Kutask had just begun to learn his powers and the angel could barely counter. It raised its arms limply. Water and fire surrounded each. Suddenly, the barrier fell and Kutask was bombarded with a blast of steam. The attack caused no physical harm, but it did knock Kutask back and fog the entire area. Kutask's dust became dampened and fell to the ground. All-in-all, Kutask was now blind.

Yes, you have died twice. The voice told Yeria. I might as well explain this to you now. You are the Prevailing Death... Yeria could almost picture the voice "smiling" slyly. You prevail despite death. You are living destruction and disease. Congratulations at being all things bad. The voice stated with a measure of anger. Apparently, it had something against Yeria having that ability.

(Group 1)

"No, no he wants us to live. He told me!" Jenoth pleaded. "It's not true!"

Gwen's attack lit up the dragon as a torch. The beast stepped back, shrieking in pain. Heinmir dropped to the ground. Gwen's body was fully burned away... she was gone. Heinmir could do nothing but watched as his companion sacrificed herself for him. Sadly, that sacrifice seemed to mean little, for the monster discarded the flames without a problem. "That little... she knew her abilities better than I thought. At least she's gone... heheheh... hahahah!" The monster mocked the noble death. "You're done!" The beast trotted over to Heinmir.

"..." Naum could see Jenoth's expression turn from weakness to utter horror. "Gwen..." A tear fell from her eyes. Another chain fell. "You lied to me!" Finally, the remaining broke. "Get... out of my head!" The surroundings brightened intensely. Naum found herself at the top bottom of a large crater. A beaten, battered Heinmir rested on the ground and a dragon, Jenoth, loomed over that dying one.

Jenoth stared at Heinmir. "You... I won't." She back up. "Master. You will leave! Get out of my mind, stop using me for you destruction. GET THE HELL OUT!!!" She screamed. A shadowy figure exited and stood up. The creature looked exactly like Jenoth, just darker.

"Why did you do that, Jenoth?" The shadow questioned softly. "I was going to take care of you."

"Take care of me? You call murdering my friend in cold blood, caring!?" Jenoth whipped her hands forward. "You are the liar. You are the deceiver... and I will destroy you!" She unleashed a quick punch at the copy. Heinmir could only watch, and Naum was held back by some invisible force. This was Jenoth's battle.

It blocked. "You can't stop me. We are the same. You would just kill yourself."

"Then." Jenoth grit her teeth. "Today, I die!" Heinmir and Naum's keys suddenly lightened. "The Truth gives freedom and Faith gives strength and hope when there is none!" A spear similar to Heinmir's own formed above Jen. The weapon launched down and stabbed the shadow. Directly after a sphere of flames appeared and smashed into the copy. The shadow was destroyed by the series of attacks.

Jenoth took several deep breaths before fainting. The two keys dimmed. Heinmir's wounds instantly healed and his strength returned to him. The battle was won, but at what cost?

Emptiness... the end. Gwen was held in an empty space. She couldn't feel her body anymore--that was it... the end of her life. Even after escaping the doom of the universe, she ended the same as everyone else. Her key was no longer with her, and she no longer had physical form.

"Well, you came to me, Gwendolen Uri. I gave you your sustenance. I even answered three of your questions." This was Resh. The spirit to communicate with Gwen before. "But, this is what you did with your life. Heh... how does it feel? How does it feel to have done all you could and yet come to barely any conclusion? You don't know the answer. You don't even know your purpose here. Your attempts were feeble, pathetic, and useless... this is what it feels like. You try to save the world. You even sacrifice your life, but, look what happened, the world ended at the same rate as before." Resh paused. "This is what it feels like to play the spirit. To be the guardian."

Light panted loudly, lying down on his hands and knees on the ground, exhausted from the ordeal. He felt at his ears curiously and felt relieved to have his hearing back.

"Y-Yeah... we did it." he cried out weakly. What he hadn't anticipated was that he had been running entirely on adrenaline until this point. His drained body, denied of the excitement that kept him up thus far, quickly gave out and Light gave in to the darkness of unconsciousness. He breathed deeply and steadily on the rocky platform, oblivious to the world around him as he rested.

"Feels odd to be called a guardian when all one has done with her life is destroy..." she said chuckling. Heinmir pushed himself up on his feet and looked over at the fainted Jeonth. Slowly and hesitantly he started to walk over to her, the images of Gwen burning up to ashes still fresh in his mind and the feeling of her scaled claw around his neck still lingered.

He stopped when he stood within an arms reach from her head and just looked at her. She had caused them so much trouble and even killed one of them, what held him back to simply slay her here and now while she couldn't fight back?

An image of a woman flashed in his mind, the same woman he had seen while he was being strangled by Jenoth just seconds ago. A warm feeling spread inside him and he knew that he was going to have to forgive Jenoth, killing for every single error was not going to solve anything and what if she just came back to life and killed him now when Gwen had simply vanished?

Heinmir's knees hit the ground with a soft thud, a warm tear slowly slid down his cheek and he felt how his throat tightened and chest grow heavy. A shaking hand reached out and stroke Jenoth's scaly head. They felt cold and soft at the touch but as soon as he pressed harder they turned hard, harder than his metal armor.

"You did your best when you fought with Kutask, you did your best to break free from your masters control,you did good. I also tried my best to help you and Kutask defeat the monster, I did my best to kill the harpy and I did my best and more to stop you from killing me, Gwen and Naum but that wasn't good enough. I failed, I failed to keep them safe, like an armor and weapon shall..." Heinmir rose to his feet and slammed his right fist onto his chest, right above the heart.
"Rekesha trass ut inlek orthero... Kerra shim Sre" Heinmir said in an ancient tongue only used for rituals like in this case, to say goodbye for an eternity.

He summoned a long spear into his hands, there was nothing special about it with the exception of the bone white flag with blood red outlining that hung on the handle. He grabbed the flag and started to draw his finger across it, text appeared where his finger had been and soon he had written down his final words to Jenoth. With a grunt he jammed the spear into the ground so that it stood on it's own.

Turning on his heel he gathered up a little wind magic and jumped, easily clearing the crater and landing a few yards away from it's edge. Summoning a lance to his hands, a jet black one just like the one had carried when he first arrived at this place, he looked to his left and found that Naum were standing there, pretty much unharmed.
So I did protect one he thought and started to walk away from Naum and the crater, he needed some time for himself now to gather his thoughts and work out just how to get his memories back, at least parts of them.

Yeria is stunned again from that statement.

It really doesn't fit now does it?

She said as her personality didn't really like destruction too much. She was really creeped out by this and confused beyond imagining.

This is so weird... So... Who are you exactly?

"You are correct," Resh replied. "You're really not supposed to be dead... then again, one could say that you are not supposed to receive your key, either." Gwen could see the wispy form of the spirit spinning around her. "You're not so bad looking." Random. "Too bad my time up. Heh." Resh stopped in front of Gwen--she could see him clearly now. "Velanzar. That is my... original name." So, Resh wasn't really his name. He was once a person like Gwen used to be. "I don't understand what your purpose is in this mess, but I did my duty. I fulfilled my purpose in life... Gwen, now it is your turn." Resh moved directly into Gwen.

A rush pierced through Gwen's vains. Every living--technically dead--fiber of her body flushed with power. Her body shifted until she was merely a wispy figure as Resh was. Her vision was filled with thousands of colors, her ears with many lovely melodies and bitter harmonies, her smell and taste with sweet honey and over-ripe fruit, and her touch with kind sways and annoying prickles. Her entire perspective had changed completely, yet... the same. She could feel, in every sense of the word, emotion around her. Anger, hate, jealousy, sadness, joy, love, kindness, happiness. Every single emotion she could see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. This was the true nature of dark wind. Emotion.

Despite the sudden on-slaught of changes, Gwen became quickly accustomed to her sudden enhancement. She could move around freely now. Yes, she was dead to the fullest extent, but that death was merely a seperation from her body.

A familiar whisper called her name. She could see a cave below her with some people in it.

~~~~~
(Group 1&2)
"Just be patient." The peaceful one told Lag.
"Everything will be explained in due time... heheh." The other spirit chuckled.
~~~~~

Unfortunately for Heinmir, he did not get the time to think. With a sudden step, his feet sunk into the ground. Within moment, his torso had fallen into the ground and, in the next second, his entire body. Naum, on the other hand, fell through all at one time. Heinmir plummeted towards a new flooring and hit it with a loud clang. Naum landed softly on her feet.

The familiar face of Light lied on the ground, and the stranger, Lag, stood nearby.

"Good! The clumsy oaf has arrived." Another wisp entered the room. Heinmir remembered this as the bitter Sre. He joined the other two wisps.

"The princess has also come along..." A majestic spirit swayed through the room. "Good to see you, for the first time." This one stopped in front of Naum. She recognized him as the voice awhile back--the voice that helped her find the key.

Four of the eight have been gathered... but where were the rest?

~~~~~
(Group 3)
Just a ghost... I'm just a ghost. The voice responded to Yeria. I will see you soon. Until then, bye. Yeria suddenly felt a presense leave her body. Whoever that was... it was gone now.
Kutask's spear ripped through the fog. Two of them hit a target with a satisfying squish. The steam dissipated and revealed that those two spears had impaled the angel. One through the arm and another through the chest. Apparently, it could not move that well with the injured legs and arms. Blood flowed freely from the wounds. It was dead.
Heinmir yelped in surprise when he felt his feet sink into the ground. Looking down he saw that he hadn't sunken into the ground, he had phased with it. Another jerk and he had phased with the ground from the neck down. "What the-! " He exclaimed before falling through the ground and landing loudly on a cave floor. The wind was knocked out of him and he felt a throbbing pain at the back of his head.
How am I not unconscious? he thought as he slowly got to his feet, rubbing the back of his head with his left hand while picking up his lance with his right.
"Good! The clumsy oaf has arrived." a familiar voice said right in front of him. looking up he could see a whisp of light, Sre it called itself, that he was sure of but he couldn't explain why. Behind the floating whisp he saw Light, alive and more energized than the last time they met. He hesitated to run over and ask him if he was alright when he saw a new stranger, a fox like Naum but this one was male.
"good news, i'm not completely dead yet..." Another Familiar voice chuckled just beside him, it was Gwen's voice and when he turned his head he found to his surprise that she too was a whisp just like Sre.
"G-Gwen?" he stuttered, taken aback by the sudden appearance of one he thought was dead. "You're not dead yet?b-but you're just a spirit" he exclaimed, gesturing wildly with his left hand. Upon hearing Lag's question about what they are supposed to do Heinmir couldn't help but feel equally lost.
"What are we supposed to do here..." He murmured and shook his head slowly. Suddenly he lifted his head and looked directly at Sre, remembering something the spirit had told him.
"You told me everything would be explained, isn't it time for you to explain the situation?" He said, staring hard at the whisp, his face only showing determination.
Where the heck is this. . . and everybody is here. . . not everybody.
She slowly stood up again, brushing herself off.
"Hey lag." she says, looking over at him, then her face settling down into a impassive expression.
So Gwen is a ghost now. . . at least she isn't completely gone.
Naum seemed to draw inwards, just observing mostly.
The angel light up into white energy and split apart. Within seconds, the entire creature was gone. Kutask's armor retracted into his skin, while the keys became chained around Kutask's head. Even with the defense gone, the power dwelt inside him--ready to be re-summoned at any time. A calm breeze shifted through the area. Along with the breeze, the surroundings blew away and a different setting came into view. A cave... with five other people.
~~~~~

Before much else could be said, Yeria and Kutask faded into the room. At the same time, three more wisps entered. Everything happened so suddenly...

Two of the new ones drifted over to Kutask, while the other new stopped by Yeria. Sre and Nore moved to Heinmir and Light, respectively. The majestic spirit hovered over Naum, and the sarcastic one over Lag. Gwen was her own spirit.

"You wanted your answers, Heinmir," Sre spoke openly, "but formal introductions are necessary." He floated forward. "I'm am Sre and this is my follower Heinmir." He motioned to Heinmir. Straight to the point and cocky as usual.

The sarcastic creature moved up. "Name's Nur. And, Lag will be taking my place." Informal and practically carefree.

"Tros." The Yeria's wisp took his turn. "Yeria will be my... successor." Short and bitter.

The majestic one traveled in front of Naum. "My name is Glith and my heir Naum stands behind me." Formal and extraordinarily royal.

"Peace to you all, you may know me as Nore." Light's spirt took her turn. "Light will fill my position." Contagiously calm and loving.

One by Kutask moved forward and proclaimed, "I am Tra. And, Kutask has been chosen for my place." Brave, bold, and loud.

The final spirit took a moment to move. An awkward silence filled the room. "...Kutask is my sucessor, but he should not. I am Kesh." Monotone and emotionless... he seemed to be confused. "Resh is missing and Gwen has become a spirit." The words posed more silence. "That would likely mean Resh has passed on and Gwen has fully taken her place. Brother..." Kesh muttered. Gwen could see an amount of pain emanating from this one. "So, I'm sure by now all of you have many questions. Please, if you would listen, I will give as many answers as I can."

Kesh moved to the center of the room. "You all may know or not, but the universe has come to a collapse. To a close, if you will. Everyone is dead. Your families, your friends, your homes... and, for those who just wanted to escape, your enemies, adversaries, and prisons." He stopped and looked at Kutask. "We don't know if you have been picked at random, or if someone higher has brought you here. We don't understand how you could have escaped the end of all without us pulling you out. But," he spun around and looked at all seven. "We do know why you have been brought here. We made a world of our own before any of your lives had started. A dimension. We made the people there, and we made the basic laws for those people." He lifted what seemed to be an arm. "Monster, disgusting things, came to our world hundreds of years after the creation and destroyed that place. Ever since then, we have been guardians to every dimension we could possible get to." He tightened his hand. "We were heroes that came and went. We were leaders that served and left without warning. No one knew who we really were... but we tried as hard as we could to save the people in those worlds from the death, pain, and destruction of their lives. Sadly, six of us lost our lives--even as spirits--and the rest of us lost any ability to stop the end. We failed as guardians, but, at least, we tried." Kesh paused lowering his arm.

"Now, you... seven, are the replacements for the seven of us. You have been placed into battle after battle to learn your elements, your positions." A smile rested on Kesh's face. "You have done well, but Gwen and Heinmir were the only ones to earn their keys... the right way." Kesh's gaze shifted Nore. "One of our own broke the rules. She was not to observe the succession process, yet... she did. Heinmir, I'm sure you remember. Every since then, this 'game' has not been played correctly by any standards. The only one to die from their trials is Tros' successor. Yet, Gwen and..." He looked down. "Jenoth." The word carried some weight to it. "These two have died. Gwen, thankfully, had her key then to accept the position. Jenoth was not so fortunate, as some of you know. She should have been mine... now I am forced to work with Kutask. No offense." He glanced at the sliver. "In addition, Heinmir, Light, and Lag all almost lost their lives in the last battles. No such fights happened when the fourteen of us took our keys. To be blatantly honest, the Master of this process has been toying with you all. Messing with your heads, your goals... everything. Despite this, you have managed to fight on and live. We have been able to help to an extent, but you took these fights to the Master."

"The Master..." Kesh reached to the ceiling and then to the ground. "We don't know who or what he is; however, he has been the one to always lead these trials. Over the years we have known him, he has become more and more bitter. Anger, hate, and loathing have filled his heart. He doesn't care about truth or justice." Kesh paused and took a breath. "He has become evil and you need to stop him. We don't know how that is possible, but we do know that the six other keys must be found. The keys of those who have passed on. After we have finished here, your next job will be to collect them and make them your own. Seeing as Kutask already has two, the rest of you will each receive one more key."

Finally, the speech came to a close. "That is about everything I can tell you. I will answer one question per person. You can have a moment for all of this information to sink in."

(Group are null and void now. Don't bother putting group number.)
Sometimes I wish I could lose everything, so I relate to those who have.

Heinmir stood behind Sre with his arms crossed, taking in as much of the information as he possibly could, finally he got the explanation he wished for since he first arrived here. But as the whisp continued it all became harder and harder to accept, fourteen gods created this world, their own dimension to escape for misery and war yet it followed them here and destroyed most of the place. Now Heinmir and six others had been chosen to be their successors and collect all fourteen keys from a corrupt master. It was hard to accept that whole worlds had been destroyed by an unseen hand and that they were all that was left.

"I have a question..." Heinmir said hesitantly and lowered his arms, letting them hang on his sides. "... When I received my key and fought the guardian beast I lost most of my memories...at least I think they are memories because they are like hazy dreams now. But recently I've seen visions...perhaps memories from my earlier life...is there a way to regain them? I would like to know what man I were, not just the man I am" Heinmir only gazed at Kresh and for those who had spent time with him it was the first time they'd seen him this hesitant, nervous and....afraid.

Gwen walked over to Kesh. "I am sorry for your loss, but in the end he seemed at peace with himself, so wherever he is now, he's fine. And before you tell me that it's all over, remember that thought and spirit are forms of energy, and energy cannot be destroyed, only changed."

Interpretation may be the father of all beliefs, but Assumption is the mother of all fuckups. I should know, I'm a prime example...

Light snored on peacefully, missing the entirety of the spirits' speech. His weaker body had to give out before the others eventually. Neither his race nor the history of his upbringing was built to withstand such rigorous activity at all, never mind in such quick succession.

He was missing information, but he would need the energy later.

Yeria was silent as she was stunned greatly from realizing that she would probably never see her loved ones again or her home. It was all gone. It hurt her very deeply and she looked really down and consumed in thoughts. She was consumed in thoughts of things she never had time to do and say.
She also wondered what they were going to do now.

Kutask finally speaks. "...I don't think I deserve one of these," he says. "Jenoth...she was supposed to get one, right? Is there anything I can do to...to bring her back, to give her the key she deserves?" A moment passes. "Wait, did I just - ?!" he shouts, freaking out. Not only did he speak aloud, but he spoke in the same manner as everyone else - in a language that just somehow makes sense.
Give the PCs plenty of problems, but give them a free hand in how they try to solve them. Use "yes, and", or "yes, but," or "roll the dice." But try to avoid "No." -- The Wyzard, dispensing valuable DM advice

Naum looked at the little being with a look of mild surprise.
So he finally speaks. . . huh.
"I have but one question." Naum says, before looking at the one she was supposed to succeed, then looking at Kesh.
"How would we kill or overthrow this 'Master' , who you don't even know his name, how to get to him, or even if he is in the same realm as us. This 'Master' we know next to nothing about, not even how to get to him, but seems to be powerful enough to dominate a person's mind. That is my question." she said, in a matter-of-fact tone.

I mean, hell, if we went back in time with a briefcase nuke and just glassed a section of the desert we'd be worshipped as omnipotent world destroyers a couple thousand years later.
