I lost most of my yugioh playing friends irl so I'm probably not going to go through with it, but I was considering building a deck. I want a deck that's fun to play, and gentle on the wallet. basically something I could throw together (or at least get a solid skeletal version to upgrade later) for less than $50 I really like certain archetypes (like say naturia) however certain cards make any prospect of building such a deck unlikely.
I personally was thinking of going with Gravekeepers. but I wanted everyone to share their budget yugioh decks! ^_^

Gravekeeper's are a very good choice if you want to play it cheap. It'll be a biiiit over $50, because you need 3 Dualities, 2 Warnings, 3 Recruiters, and 2 Royal Tributes.. But I'd say around $60 after buying everything.
Other cheap options are Dark Worlds (As long as you don't use Fabled Raven/Tour Guide.), or Agent Angels (Sans Tour Guide once again.)

well its fine since in MtG I build the core and then build the pricy cards en when I have the funds. I imagine the same logic applies here

Well you CAN run it without the Dualities and Warnings.. It'll just be slower and not as safe of a deck. But without the Recruiters, you don't have an engine. Royal Tribute can be left out.. But it's a horrible idea to do so.

MTG is the same way :\ You just don't notice it as much, but it's really exactly the same. A well built budget deck of yugioh at least has a chance of beating a teir 1 yugioh deck. A budget MTG deck you could play 100 times against a teird 1 mtg deck and not win :faint:

it's not exactly the same in so much since its a longer running games there are more options for budget casual play. but it does amount to very much the same effect for more serious crowds also to add, the topic of the ability of a deck to function without keycards is the issue of the discussion not necessarily just the price of cards, though the average 'key' card in yugioh seems to be worlds more expensive from my experience. my concern is that in building a yugioh deck you can't omit expensive cards with cheaper, if less potent substitutes and simply await the funds to get the more expensive ones

I could probably take a commons box and put together a deck in 15 minutes that could take down a teir 1 deck (I've won tournaments with this approach to prove it). I went through my entire tournament career without all the key cards . They are the icing on the cake, not the batter. For example, you do not NEED pot of duality in ANY deck. It is wonderful and helpful to draw it, but is completely unnecessary in any deck. If you own it, you run it, if you don't, not a big deal, more space for something unconventional.

erm. pot of duality isn't a key card for any archtype, it's a useful tool, there's a difference, ie, running lightworns without judgment dragon or gravekeepers without gravekeepers decedent are both technically possible but neither is preferred, that's to say the deck will probably be significantly weaker by their absence.
these are bad examples because getting 3 decedents is now less than a dollar and even JD is down to about $7 so you won't be hurting that bad.
Synchro cards in particular are obscene at times, while some are reasonable, others...not so much
this isn't the same as say, lacking a splashable card that has nothing to do with a given archtype, but rather a card in a given archtype that is considered the 'bread and butter' that's to say, you really can't easily play a satisfying naturia lock deck without getting some'keycards' but you can always avoid the really expensive archtypes, but some decks require either luck with boosters or lots of scratch to build, that's just a fact.
mtg has less rigid archetypes, more reprints or equivalent cards ultimately giving more customization options. in my experience.
look as I said I play casually and don't try to copy the metagame, I do what looks fun to me, but that's just supply and demand at work, it happens plenty to mtg too
I think you miss the point of a lot of my comments, I'm not saying common cards can't win, (though MVP may have implied as much) I'm saying basically if you go in wanting a certain kind of deck and it just happens to have cards that are marked up at the time, well prepare for an empty wallet or some disappointment.

Then why don't you tell us what kind of deck you'd like to play, and I mean be as specific or vague as you want.
Examples:
I want to play beatdown (very vague, just a type of play style)
I want to play spellcasters (somewhat vauge, a type of deckstyle that encompasses numerous archtypes)
I want to play Gravekeepers ( specifc, a decktype that has 3-5 common, playable builds, but with a good degree of variation still)
I want to play Chain Burn (extremely specific, you will need almost an exact deck list, with specfic key cards to make the combos work, with only a handful of cards left for variation)
Then, depending on your answer, at any given level of variability, we could tell you what and how to build it on a budget, or that you can not build on a budget.

I was giving an open sort of discussion, though admittedly I would enjoy a naturia lock/negation type deck, if such a deck were possible on a budget. naturias are cute n.n
