Blackout Months; VIP Closed for Business

Oh o.o I see what you're saying, Twi ^_^ And, I do understand that concern now that's it's been clarified o.o So, my questions would be:

1) how long do you see the momentum lasting on average in a given gained-momentum topic?

2) how often do we get those topics?

3) How would the site feel about blacking out everything but the topics that are definitely high-momentum (as an alternative solution)? o.o
'cuz we all need breaks...the blackout will just have us all take breaks at the same time o.o so when we come back from them, we'll all be refreshed at the same time o.o ready to build momentum again o.o

that varies greatly, could be hours, days or even months, it could be said some topics have different rhythms, some create post frenzies, and some are merely consistent in their ability to get comments over time. Very tortoise and hare.

we are sort of in a rebuilding phase right now, so any data based off the present probably wouldn't be representative.

largely speaking, the problem lies in this. if you leave only certain topics open, than you defeat the purpose of the blackout because you leave parts of the site open from before the break, the reason special communication hubs and 'blackout projects' differ is because you only leave the project hub open, effectively banning non project/support based communications on the site itself.

the sticky part is, we should all know from the numerous reboots of VIP and comebacks from dead periods the only consistently and dependably active period on any site we've had is the red ribbon ceremony (that is, shortly after opening a new site) otherwise it's very much peaks and valleys, and pushing us off a peak means plummeting into a valley, and if unchecked will probably be a much longer,drier,dustier valley than any of us would like.
also.what if a new member shows up during a blackout? o.O

Hmm o.o well, then you're suggesting that blackouts be implemented when we notice that there is a period of "deadness" on the site. So, therefore we cannot plan it on a calendar until we want it there definitely o.o

Also, if a new member shows up o.o we'll have a google calendar up o.o we're not exactly a booming bustling site, honestly o.o and I can mass e-mail everyone ^_^
My mass e-mailing worked too o.o we got back some people we haven't seen in like yrs o.o Way to go, people using real email addresses!!! ^_^ :lol:

@Spiff - So, you're proposing a seasonal break? So, when school's on, vip's off o.o am I getting it right? o.o
Not necessarily seasonally, but according to a school schedule, when there is usually the most work we should close because activity is low, and on breaks be open, because activity is usually high. (So I guess that is kinda seasonally?)

not exactly, I'm only saying it appears to me that your plan has a fatal flaw, and closing the site when were dead doesn't help with stress nor does it help activity, only mass e-mails would help with that.

yeah...if the site is shut down when a person discovers the site...they probably won't join, it'll likely look bad unless there was an explorable hub about the site to entice them, ie if we were content creators leave some of the content viewable there...or something of that nature.
