Has anyone seen this show? I don't know about you, but I really didn't need to see a kids show with chibized versions of Wolverine, the Hulk, Thor, etc. I should've seen this coming sooner though, Marvel had been trying to hawk Marvel super heroes toys to toddlers for years now. Doesn't make it any less lame though. I guess the show gets some points for using lots of characters from Marvel Universe lore, but I seriously doubt I could watch something so watered down with all the sexyness, danger, and violence removed from it. What's sad is this show was produced before the Disney merger. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

I'm going to sound like I have no taste whatsoever* (I just admitted to liking "Bullet Witch" too this week), but I like it. I know it's not the serious, amazing, violent and gritty show that we all want, but it's actually funny and enjoyable, and hey, if gets the kids into comics, than I'm all for it. It's like comparing "Arkham Asylum"** and "Lego Batman". I find both to be loads of fun for totally different reasons. Plus Marvel is run by douchebags anyway. Somewhat related: Does anyone else remember the whole "Spider-Girl high school yuri storyline character reboot" thing from several years ago? I swear this happened, but no one remembers it aside from my vague description. * - I really should just put "I hate Scooby Doo in all it's forms but "Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!" in my sig. I'm the only person in the world like this, and most of the hardcore fans will lynch me if I so much as utter it in their presence. ** - Everyone should have this. Especially Termy and Mez, cause I'm pretty sure they have systems that can play it. |

I dunno, I could watch Japanese magical girl shows from her to eternity, probalby becuase there's more edgy stuff in those shows (even stuff like Snow Fairy Sugar has yuri), but stuff like this causes me to lose interest. I mean I watched the Care Bears movies when I was 5, but I was 5 then. Doesn't have the same kind of allure anymore. The chibi-ness of it is also abit annoying. I can watch some shows chibized, but when it's a show about 15 male chibized characters I'll probalby take a pass. And it may get kids into comics at an early age, but there's always that goofy danger of Marvel trying to then cater the main titles to them and thus making them lame again. They probalby won't do that though since adults give them all their cash now, at least for physical comic books.
It probalby happened, but you see most fanboys are homophobes and like to pretend gay characters don't exist or existed. Even if it was super thick subtext they would be like "nope, she's straight!" I do recall a Spider-Girl reboot comic from some years ago, but never read it. I never heard it had yuri in it, and it wasn't listed in any thing on gay comics I've read, but then again it could've just went under the radar due to it being subtext. |

1. Why not do a separate line for kids? I was thinking they could call it Marvel Kids...than I found out they already have something like it. Leave the traditional lines alone, but make stuff kids like, and they can go up to the more mature stuff later. Plus a kid's version of say, Deadpool would be amazing. A total butchery, but maybe the funniest butchery ever. Especially if it's done like a parody. 2. They can be racist too. I remember when they made Jaime Reyes the Blue Beetle and some of them threw a shitfit cause Jaime wasn't white. It's not like Blue Beetle's powers are even related to the person like Spider-Man. Course, I could see legit anger if all of sudden you made Batman black with no explanation whatsoever. Even though a reboot with a black kid from the ghetto being adopted by rich people after his parent's get killed by thugs and training hard to rid the streets of crime (with more realistic villains, so people like Poision Ivy would be out) could actually work. You'd just need to call it "Batman X" or something. 3. Which is weird because I felt the subtext (even if it was subtext) was so thick that you'd have to some kind of SG "Nope. No Gay People in the media ever" idiot not to pick up on it. Maybe she wasn't, but it was like Samdy where if you even if it wasn't there, you could easily make a case for it. |

Comics aimed only at young kids (lets say the under 10 crowd) have historically sold poorly in recent decades becuase the older fans are the ones who really support the books. I think the evolution from news stand to comic book store probalby helped that trending a long a bit. Maybe this will change if comics become more available again. The conservatard backlash against them also extended into modern times. For example Walmart banned all non-Archie digest comic books in the 90's and not because they sold poorly either.
Yeah, surprisingly a lot of nerds can be conservatards, especially comic book fans. Trying to include other races for diversity or whatever pisses them off to no end. It's true.
The problem is a good portion of these idiots are exactly like SG, that's why I made my own forum here, I was sick of encountering this kind of BS even outside of TS fandom. Go to a forum and post about anything remotely gay and you be lamblasted as some kind of outcast. I like tried posting my Harley/Ivy fics at a Batman site before and people complained it was pornography. And I still can't get over the "Kaorin is striaght" argument in the Azumanga Daioh forums. The anime was about as subtle about her as Galagher was when he smashed watermelons with a mallet. But yeah subtext gets ignored all the time. If you claim any two girls who have extremely strong romantic subtext are more than "just friends" you'll get a lot of people saying you're crazy because t they're straight even if there's no evidence they like guys at all. I don't know if its because these people are stupid or homophobic, but its probalby a combination of both. Even when it came out of the author's mouth, like Hajime Kanzaka saying Naga was as much of a potential lover interest for Lina Inverse in Slayers as Gourry was, the fans will completely forgot about it instantly and then criticize anything that isn't LinaxGourry or LinaxZelgadis becuase Lina is "straight." And one more gripe about the Super Hero Squad. The characters have Brace Face four fingered mutant disease. Really, why is it so hard to draw characters with five fingers? It's not like this show didn't have a decent budget already. I'm pretty sure the artists from whatever Asian country who actually animated this thing are capable of drawing one more finger. |

I remember that clip from eons ago, like when I still watched the Simpsons. I don't think I watched it since 1994 or something. O__O Anyways here's the wiki for Spider-Gir: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-girl Like which characters is it between? And looks like the comic has survived in some form for 12 years. Don't know if that bodes well for the couple or not. Gonna guess probably not because Marvel is not exactly known as the most gay-friendly comics company (DC has historically been much more cool about it). And no mention of anything lesbian at all in the wiki. Doesn't mean it's not there though. I had to add stuff to some wikipedia artlices myself about out of the closet charcters like Anri in Sasami Magical Girls Club. Wikipedia article authors really love to gloss over this kind of thing. Gay love is usually referred to like this, "Character A really appreciates Character B for an unknown reason." Literally the phrase "unknwon reason" was used even after stuff that happened like onscreen kisses, "I love you," etc. |

1. If the descriptions match, May "Mayday" Parker and Courtney Duran work, but whenever I google them for images I get ones that don't match. My May was shorter and spunkier, and my Courtney looked like one of those girls in high school who was a mix between geek and hippie. It happened between Oct 2003-Nov 2004, and if ezboard never crashed, I would have a link and everything. 2. I've heard it argued that B-Ko just REALLY REALLY wants C-Ko as her friend. I suppose it could be right, but to argue that any sort of lesbian undertone didn't exist there would be insane. |

Well she has two graphic novels at least even if she doesn't have her own title anymore (I think): http://www.amazon.com/Arana-Vol-1-Heart-Spider/dp/0785115064/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1264022874&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Ara%F1a&x=24&y=15 J-Syxx is pleased about a lot mroe titles being collected in graphic novels now. Saves you from having to find back issues of stuff if you want to read something. Going to get the Gotham City Sires hard-cover when it comes out. Also got the one for Gotham Central so I can finally read the Rene Montoya yuri story. Still don't know anything about the yuri, but it does mention a best friend named Lynn in the wiki article.
Yeah, there's a scene of B-Ko playing with one of her nipples while thinking of C-Ko in her pool while a more than likely lesbian love song (In Your Eyes) plays in the background. The people who don't think this is canon are asssholes. I will also mention that an early version of the film had B-Ko and C-Ko having sex together (when it was going to be a hentai). C-Ko also comes from a female only race, and would most likely want a female for her mate (her choice obviously being A-ko). Edited by Syxx, Jan 20 2010, 03:58 PM.

Plus, if you're a collector, you can read your collection while your comic remains mint forever. Trilly is pissed that the book is at a far away library that won't send it to his local library >:( |

J-Syxx thinks trilly should try to get an inter-library loan from another library that has it. J-Syxx says enter your zip code here to see who has it: http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/57489127&referer=brief_results May take two months for you to get it, but it will come eventually. |

Worldcar says Boston, which probably won't work cause I don't live in that state. I TRIED to get a ILL from my state, but for some reason you can't get that for it. I don't know why. It's not a magazine or a new release DVD. They'll send me manga digests no sweat. |

Do you also have a college library? Try to get it through there, they may be slightly less stupid about doing something that any library should be able to do. There's a lot less dipshits working at college libraries, and they do interlibrary loans all the time for professors and students. Edited by Syxx, Jan 21 2010, 08:04 PM.

And acquired as of Thursday. Ironically, all concerns of Boston being too far away are destroyed by it coming from Illinois. Not quite as...yuri as I remember it, but Lynn still refers to Arana as her "girlfriend" in one panel, but it could simply be platonic. Or not. That's the beauty of interpretation. |

1. O.K., they have these at local libraries and I can probably get them though the hold system, but umm...which Runaways? Cause I see two lines with similar names published by Marvel, but one's by Brian Vaughan and the other is by Terry Moore. The former looks a lot more awesome. 2. I think it's accidental. Keywords being I and think. |
