T-Boz tried to talk to me!

Got this news from bloody-disgusting, a site I'm generally not fond of, but they have news articles than Fangoria:

Quote:

Some pretty huge news comes in from the Wolverine premiere in Tempe, Arizona as Fox Co-chairman Tom Rothman talked with IESB about a potential prequel to Alien, one of my all-time favorite horror films. "There's been some talk," he tells the website. "Ridley Scott, Ridley is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he's toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it's always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I've got my fingers crossed, all of them." We'll cross our toes too - what better way to continue the franchise than to take it away from Paul W.S. Anderson, the ruiner of all things good, and give it back to the master?

A really hope this happens. A prequel is about 50 times better of an idea than a remake, and it would be a suspenseful, gothic feast for the eyes if Ridley Scott directs it. Seems unfortunate that Fox doesn't want to do another film with Sigourney Weaver, but this would be the next best idea.

More news:

Entertainment Weekly, who has been keen on reporting ill news as of late (Scream remake), is claiming that 20th Century Fox has yet to sign off on commercial director Carl Rinsch to get behind the camera for the Alien "prequel", news we broke here on B-D a few weeks back. "The filmmakers and Fox, the studio that owns the rights to the franchise, seem to have conflicting ideas about who should direct," they write adding that the studio wants Ridley Scott to return to the helm, "the studio is not interested in greenlighting a prequel unless Scott himself directs." Thanks for the credit EW.

Can you say fuck please? God I hope this happens. I don't want a no-name commercial director fucking up one of the last chances for a good Alien film. Ridley Scott is the master. He'll do this film justice. He also said he wanted to do the film before. I hope this doesn't get fucked up some how. It's also good to hear Fox has some integrity left in them some where.

Ridley Scott to Direct Alien Prequel!
Alien 5 News | Posted by Darkness on 31 Jul 2009 13:33 GMT
Alien 5 NewsVariety have confirmed that Ridley Scott is going to direct the upcoming Alien Prequel movie. Fox have also hired Jon Spaihts to write the prequel. The studio was impressed by his work on two space thrillers called Passengers and Shadow 19.

Twentieth Century Fox is resuscitating its "Alien" franchise. The studio has hired Jon Spaihts to write a prequel that has Ridley Scott attached to return as director. Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.

The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

This is excellent news about Ridley Scott returning. Thanks to dDave, Aiden, Alien Genesis, Kirkempk, Clayton, and Giger_Incubator for the news.

:dance2: :yahoo:

Edit: I split this topic from the Quadrilogy thread. Maybe it will produce some discussion that way.

I always thought the douchebag center of the universe was some sort of Ed Hardy convention.

New interview with Sir Ridley revealing a bit more about the film! Sounds even better now imo. A lot of people were concerned that the film would explain way too many of the mysteries of the first Alien, but that doesn't look to be the case now since its only happening thirty years prior now. My guess would be it will explain how "the Company" came to first know about the xenomorph:

Excl: Ridley Scott Talks Alien Prequel

Sir Ridley Scott was in town the other night, mainly to look on with pride as his daughter, Jordan, debuted her film, Cracks, at the London Film Festival – but we grabbed him for a quick natter about the Alien prequel that he’s aiming to direct soon-ish.

Since the prequel was announced, it’s been assumed that it would tell the story of how those nasty, slavering xenomorphs came to land on LV-426 in the first place. But after listening to Sir Ridley, suddenly we’re not so sure…

“It’s a brand new box of tricks,” said Sir Ridley. “We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.”

Interesting. And damned intriguing, to boot. Presumably, rather than make a film about how those massive elephantine aliens (remember the giant pilot with his chest blown outwards in Sir Ridley’s original?) were decimated by the acid-blooded bastards, Sir Ridley and his writer, Jon Spaihts, have decided to reboot the story in an attempt to give it a human focus.

How this will fit in with existing series continuity remains, like much about the new Fox movie, to be seen, but with Sir Ridley on board, we’re sure that the Alien series is on course for a return to genuine quality. Frankly, though, we’re still a little surprised that the man who is arguably Britain’s greatest living director would return to the scene of his greatest triumph. So why do it?

“I never thought I’d look forward to a sequel,” said Sir Ridley. “But a prequel is kind of interesting. I’m looking forward to doing that.”

Are you excited about Sir Ridley's Alien comeback? Let us know below.

I'm sure Sir Ridley will bring nothing short of a completely atmospheric, creepy gothic horror film with stunning visuals and good suspense. I don't really expect any less than that. It's also going to be great to see a film where we don't know what's going to happen to the characters at all. All we know is the Company knows about LV-426, that's it. I expect some surprises and some very frightening situations.

I think the biggest problem with Resurrection was the screen writer. While Buffy is awesome, that style of writing doesn't translate over to freaking Alien. So we ended up with an extremely comic-bookish Alien movie that seemed very out of character. I don't know what Fox was smoking. Film is still ok on some levels though. At least he inserted femslash.

*gonna move this convo to the Alien Prequel thread*
