Just saw the commercial for this. Gotta say I'm already pissed off. I mean you're going to take a cartoon of Astroboy, the first anime charcter and a classic manga, and water it down into some kind of Pixar knock-off bullshit? Just use the original character designs man. Its animation, you can do anything in animation. I can't tell the difference between this and "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs." Doubt I will actually support this. Hollywood has been trying to get on the anime bandwagon for years, but its obvious they don't respect what anime is enough, so they always have to "improve" their adaptions and turn them into bullshit.

Only recognize the "Asstro Boi" name from the Mighty Atom series from 2003, which features the opening theme Now or Never by the duo of Chemistry meeting m-flo:

BTW, what in the BLUE HELL is "Cloudeh with a Chance of Meatballz"??

Without Astroboy there probalby wouldn't be any anime or manga that came after it at all. At least wikipedia it, man. lol

It was a shitty children's picture book from the 80's or 90's made into a CGI family film. They churn out a lot of those. But come one dude, they advertised the hell out of this on tv. You should've at least seen the commercial.

Next predicted Spin post: "I only know Arnold Scchwartzenegger as the governor of Califnornia. What is this Terminator you speak of?" :lmao: Ok, sorry dude. XD

Aw, c'mon, I wiki'd "Astro Boy (2003 TV series)". Gimmse SOME credit, geekschool professor. :sob: :roflmao2:

I've never seen the commercial for "Cloudeh", but I have seen one for "Astro Boy". BTW, what in the BLUE HELL is a Computer-Generated Imagery family film??? And why would it have anything to do with families??!

I didn't know the football-headed kid was the governator of California! j/k Of course I know the re-call Gray Davis election, because it was the first ever election I voted in‡, and it also had that bitchin' RWQOJMV alphabet. And of course I recognize the Terminator movies, because Christian Bale had an on-set meltdown from the last movie. XD

‡ Did NOT vote for Sczwartzhenegger xP .

I don't think it looks THAT bad. Sure, I'd love a 2D one made by Rintaro, but until I see who directed or wrote this, I won't panic.

Hmmm...turns out it's written by the same guy that did "Kindergarten Cop".

This could be awesome. Or terrible.

It already looks like it strayed incredibly from the original, I mean it features some robotic villain I don't think even exists in the manga. Looks like they're trying to make a big cash-grab with this with toy tie-ins, etc. Really, if you don't want to let the Japanese do it at least try to be authentic.

And Rintaro is directing 3D CGI movies now. lol

I was watching WWE Raw, and I heard the line, "I have machine guns up my butt!"

It wasn't a subliminal message, but rather one of the trailers for Astro Boy. Ass-tro Boi, indeed. I think my mind warped.

It was that, or Pat Patterson has gotten into the prop closet again.

Just saw a longer commercial for this film. It looks about as much Astroboy as French Fries is authentic French dining. May as well have cast Will Smith in this movie as the lead. Probably going to take a pass.

For people like Smith, I judge things on a hip hop basis, not a hollywood basis. XD I wasn't very old at the time, but I think of Will Smith as the guy kids who got beat up to listened to in 1988. If you were a cool kid, you probably listened to Slick Rick. :lmao: Slick Rick is so bad ass that he could be borderline homerotic effeminate on tracks and every hip hop head in the 80's or now probably considers him one of the most baddass godly rappers who ever lived. Will Smith, who I think borrowed a few elements from Ricky D, on the other hand is known as being the first mother fucker in rap to go pop, and then later going super sold out to extreme pop in the 90's. What's so sad was he was so vulnerable that he literally went from selling 9 times platinum albums to never being able to go platinum again after Eminem dissed him. He was literally destroyed. Unfortunately, the movie going public couldn't tell hip hop from their assholes, so that didn't reflect at all on his film career.

Smith would probably like to distance himself from hip-hop at this point, and just star in (imo) crappy movies... On topic, having seen the ads, I think I'll pass on Astrofail...

Even if I were to disregard Will Smith's hip hop career and base my judgment on his HollyHwood career, I'd still have to say Hitch was the best movie he was ever in, and the only one I saw of my own free will. Sure, I saw Men in Dark Slate Gray, but that was only because it was shown in a film-making class I attended, in which the instructor apparently thought it was good enough to show as curriculum along with Apollo Thirty One, Frago, and Exfernal Affairs/The Depotted.

Speaking of which, I will only watch AsteriskBoy if I have to do it as classwork in Geek School, since I'm not gonna enjoy that type of thing anyway. :omg: (Classwork and school in general, probably not so much the "geek" part.) XD

But yeah, a movie like Hitch about a dating coach who helps dumb schmucks like me attract a (singular) woman of my dreams in a legitimate, romantic relationship is moar legend than I Are Legend. The movie should be called what it really is: Make Out Paradise/Make Out Violence/Make Out Tactics/etc.

Wow, any film teacher who shows Men In Black to his students is a fucking hack. That film wasn't even good. It was just an overbloated popcorn flick. Couldn't they have shown Touch of Evil or something, I dunno with a little bit of film-making finesse? What's next Goosebumps in a literature course?

Remember when Will Smith made an edgy diss record? It was amazing. For all the wrong reasons.

If only you knew just how many kids did book reports on this series when I was in elementary school.

I liked Goose Bumps for about 2 weeks. Then I discovered there was no real horror in them. Just stuff like, "Ahh I can't take this mask off!" This is scary why? Some of the stuff with abandoned amusement parks was ok though, but almost anything with scary abandoned amusement parks tends to succeed.

And even showing Appolo 13 in a film class. Jesus christ. Was this in high school or college? Sounds like maybe your film teacher was just really a science high-school teacher that got the job for some god-awful reason.

He did admit that in one of his crazy-ass rants that he was some kind of SFX guy that got the job just because there was an opening for one. As good as his demo reel is/was, and I'm sure it was good in the eyes of a lot of the impressionable kids there, he didn't even need to show it.

I swear, his crazy-ass rants were some of the best lessons I have ever learned at that "college". (Term used loosely, but it was technically after hai-skool.) Best lessons like, "you'd have to be a funckin' nut to pursue a career in this industry." That wasn't repeated verbatim, BTW, but you get the point.

In retrospect, sh17, I thought I was burnt out. The core-curriculum teachers there were either sane enough to transfer to a school moar prestigious, or sane enough to stay just to talk shit about how bad the career path is.

As I probably mentioned earlier in the Ventilation thread, as much of an honors-student I wuz (mostly because of my non-"typical slacker" behavior), I was like "Yo, fvck the film/gaming industry. I don't want this (anymore?)".

This is probably why I (sometimes sarconically) act become dumb, especially when confronted with stuff like AstroJohn or Cloudy with a Chance of Escorts.

I wonder if "GooosePumps" was that same book that had those short stories like the woman that had [what I think were] boils that took a hot bath only to have said boils pop and hatch eggs of spiders or something and that one about the person who tried to check back in the hotel she stayed in only for the bellhops there act like she never did or something because they were covering up something or other. I know the latter messed with my mind a lot back when I first read it in the third-ish year of elementary school, and it was somehow adapted to an episode of Alfred Hitchcock presents Twilight Zone Shippuden or some series. :holyshit:

I'm pretty sure that wasn't a Goosebumps book. They would have nothing nearly that explicit. lol

And did he show anything by Orson Welles or Hitchcock at least?

Nawww, nothing from Orson Welles or Hitchcock … the two best "films" I saw at that college were "The Demo Reel from Hell" and fvckin' 45 seconds of color bars and tone. I personally wish the latter was longer. I could've literally watched bars and tone for five hours straight and call that the best class ever at the time. XD

And no, that wasn't Goosebumps. I just found out that it was actually from the "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" series. I'm pretty sure that was it. And better than Boosegumps.
