It is so weird that you would post this topic just now - I only two hours ago mentioned to Mr. Syxx on MSN that this should be a thread here..0.o In any event, I view this with some trepidation: I'm just wondering how badly Disney will screw up the comics, and what sort of crappy movies they'll put out as a springboard for whatever half-assed 'tween 'star' they're trying to currently jam down our collective throats. I mean srsly, "Hannah Montana meets The Hulk"? The Suite Life of the X-Men"? "Dr. Strange meets the Wizards of Waverly Place"? YEEESH!! - Honestly, W.T.F.... |

This could be both good and bad. Good in that there could suddenly be more cool Marvel stuff out there like theme park rides (although these already exist) and animated films that actually get put on the big screen. Possible bad side, Marvel could be wussified. This would be bad for their fans who just got out the grasp of those pilgrims that ran the Comics Code Authority. Hopefully, they let Marvel be edgey instead of forcing them to be "family friendly." Not every title has to be the Punisher, but I like my complex themes that aren't all black and white, as well as my good wholesome violence. Hopefully, Disney keeps its fingerprints off of the creative side of things. |

For those paranoid that Disney will wussify everything, Disney owns Miramax pictures. When they made "Pulp Fiction". They also decided to have licensed Pixar comics through Boom Studios, makers of this. I don't think Disney will ever slap their stuff into the Marvel Verse (and vice versa) aside from quite possibly some sort of fighting game and or stupidly amazing version of Kingdom Hearts. Personally, I LOL more at Disney saying this is good so they could get more young males. Which probably wouldn't have been a problem if more of their TV shows didn't scream "YOUNG GIRL DEMO!". |

I know, right?? XD Here's another game idea: MARVEL SING IT! Can't think of any Marvel theme songs with lyrics, except for that old Spiderman tune. XD |

Depends on what the contract entails. Like how much input will they have in future films and merchandise? I guess this could be good if they just leave marvel alone and let them do their thing while giving them access to things like their distribution pipelines, but I dunno. XD Anyways, I'm moving this to the Comics forum, since it's primarily about Marvel. |

Disney bought them because they liked their properties, so I guess the odds of them changing Spider-Man or Punisher are probably pretty slim. But if Disney makes a special cover with Spider-Man and Kermit as Spider-Man, I'm all for it. |

There's also a possibility of a slow take-over. Say Disney inserting its influence by slowly replacing the management at Marvel. Depends on how things work out I guess. I just hope Disney doesn't make the assumption that the comics business is all about the young male demo. I'm going to take a guess here and say Marvel probalby sells most of its comics to adults now. |

Which would still make it a solid move, mostly because I don't think Disney really sells that much to adults aside from ladies who think Tinkerbell or Winnie the Pooh is adorable. |

Something occurred to me reading this thread - namely, it's quite possible that Disney's purchase of Marvel may be ill-conceived. Think about it for a second: while it's true that the X-men, Iron Man, and especially the Spiderman movie franchises have been enormous cash cows for Marvel in recent years, the cyclic nature of film making seems to lead to the inevitable conclusion that this current cycle of superhero films has perhaps run it's course. Given the fact that most of Marvels recent stock price has been tied directly to it's movie projects (this year saw a dip in Marvel stocks trading price due to a lack of film releases.), and not it's publishing arm, there's a distinct possibility that Disney may have bought the proverbial pig-in-a-poke. Granted, Disney will probably reap (raep? :p) some of the benefits of the film deals currently in place with other studios, but only for the short term. In the longer run however, I think that even with all that intellectual property at their disposal, Disney is going to come up with some mind-numbingly bad ways to market/exploit that property just to make it pay for itself. Because they won't be raking in the long green from publishing comic books. [/rant] |

I wonder what'll come next for Disney? Just imagine what if Disney buy one of the various Japanese animation studios (Toei, Sunrise, Studiot Pierrot, etc...) or even....Marathon studios? |

I wonder if the rights to Uncle Srooge comics will stay with Gemstone Publishing now. |

Hollywood seems to like to beat things to death now, so I wouldn't be so sure about super-hero movies going away that soon. I guess they could also try to dip into Marvel's horror, western, etc. titles if that were the case. |

While making my usual rounds of comic book related sites, I came across many artistic takes on the whole buyout thing. I'll (mostly) let them speak for themselves: To start it off right though, here's one by the late, great Jack Kirby; And (possibly) the new corporate logo - ![]() There's some pretty funny ones in this bunch... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And the influence isn't all one way - some of the Disney Princesses could be done the Marvel way... ![]() ![]() These were just a sampling of what's out there - if nothing else, the Disney buyout has produced some lolz...

I'm glad someone got that Tigger/Eeyore parody - I wasn't sure anyone else but a hard core comic book geek such as myself would... But for those who don't get it, it's a fairly well-known scene from Spider-man.
