Yeah, I've seen this coming for a few years now. They started by just showing some live-action "cartoony" movies. But that was only a strategy so they could edge in more live-action in. Now the channel is filled with live-action crap fests like a completely fake ripoff of Ghost Hunters and other shows I don't even want to bother finding out what they're about. Pretty soon the channel won't even be named Cartoon Network anymore. Mark my word by 2010, if not sooner, it won't be called Cartoon Network anymore. I won't really care at that point, I've pretty much quit the channel already. Guess I'll have to stick to Nickelodeon and Boomerang for my cartoon fix. Pretty fricking sad though that that corporate overlords of a channel called Cartoon Network don't have faith in cartoons anymore. I'm sure they're just trying to find out how they can get on the Disney jail-bait pop-star gravy train as fast as they can.

I am so glad there's someone else who feels the same way.

After eleven or so years of bringing popular anime and other action shows with Toonami, they cancelled that. Then they cancelled Naruto.

I'm upset that they got rid of all that for CN Real Fake shows. :(

You know what's really sad about this? Anime was one of their higher rated shows. Or show types I guess.

So of course it just gets shat on. Ratings! Think of the ratings!

Rumor has it they want to change their name to "The Network". Cause it makes sense since all their live action shows are getting HORRIBLE ratings.

Oh, and bastards cancelled "Chowder" too. You had one of the best, most original shows on TV today, and you shit on it for "Slamball".

Fuck Slamball. I watched this by accident and the commercial makes it seem so extreme and exciting, but it was the most boring thing ever. Worse than basketball. Shit, they should just air Whirlyball.

I <3 Whirlyball. It's like sports, but for lazy people.

LOL, "the Nework." Sounds Orwellian. They should definitely go with that. Anyways, people working at Cartoon Network are on record basically saying they hate anime, so it wasn't surprising to me they would basically try to shelve everything. The next step beyond that is turning against their own cartoons. Don't worry, this channel will be slowly destroyed. Its ran by the same kind of idiots who think changing a channel's name to "Syfy" was a good idea becuase they loath the genre their channel was originally supposed to showcase.

As much as I despise "The Network" (and believe me, once they relegated anime to the Saturday late-night ghetto, they made an enemy out of me! >_<), it actually is just another nail in the collective coffin of 'niche' television, which I've seen coming for some time now and is thus no big surprise. Everything is now totally dumbed-down "Lowest Common Denominator" programming pretty much wherever you flip the dial, with quality programs few and far between. "Burn Notice" being an exception to that rule - anything with Bruce Campbell is by it's very definition great! lol

I don't really get the connection between shitty shows and illusory 'big ratings', but they must have an insane Rhesus monkey conducting their market research these days - that's the only theory I can come up with that makes any sense at all!

And Mr. Syxx, please don't get me started on that whole "sy-fy" thing...from what I read (and this is true), they made that name change because their vastly intellectual audience apparently couldn't pronounce the earlier spelling correctly.... why didn't they just rename it 'Skiffy' or something equally moronic? 0.o

I guess it's a good thing that the types of entertainment I like aren't on television for the most part - sure I have to work a little harder to obtain the obscurities I enjoy, but in the end it's well worth it...

to quote Max Wren (James Woods) in a great Cronenberg film: "Death to Videodrome! Long live the new flesh!"

1. And "Bite Me with Dr. Mike".

Granted that's fairly low brow too, but at least my show teaches me stuff in addition to the lulz provided by a man getting bit by bugs.

That, and he showed us a bug that can make explosions with it's butt. The seven year old in me loves that.

2. I heard it was because "Sci-Fi" is a genre and you can't really own a genre as a marketing device like say, Nick or Disney, so they gave themselves a unique name for T-Shirts and mugs I guess.

Yeah, like it works so well for Disney... all the Disney stores in town they've all closed up 'cause their rip-offs... the ones in all the malls and the outdoor lifestyle, including the ritzy ones

Well, if no one else is gonna point it out, then I might as well make the obligatory random obscure wrestling reference: So that's what Palmer Cannon is up to these days. XD

Sure, I could've gone with Cyrus from the original ECW, but that would've been too obvious :pif: .

Eh. I don't like it as much anymore. I only watch it now for Adult Swim, Total Drama Island/Action, and The Othersiders. :/

Basically CN are saying to us "Why entertain you lot when we can earn 10x the profit by making crappy stuff, and only lose half the fanbase?"

Jerks.

But its like basketball... with trampolines. So anyone can dunk, which makes it that much more exciting... kinda. Next they should start showing re-runs of the XFL. It was extreme because you could wear jerseys that said things like "He Hate Me."

And I love the quiz-show you take on a roller-coaster. Because you know watching someone else ride a roller-coaster instead of doing it yourself is "entertaining."

After I read the first post, out of my mind came the initials, "M-T-V." Gee, I wonder what's about. Unless of course, they've resumed showing music videos since I began ignoring them in 1998 or 99. Somehow, that doesn't feel likely for rat bastards who turned away from The Maxx, The Head Saves The Earth, and the rest of the Oddities series. M-T-V also sped up Metallica's decline by making them popular among mainstream music fans. Or at least, my conspiracy theory index has that written down.

Bastards.

For the record, I was a rabid fan of the Los Angeles Xtreme during the XFL's lone season. I knew they'd win the Million Dollar Game, though I didn't expect the loosing coach to get insulted by then Minnesota Governor Jesse "The Body" Ventura. If I could find team gear somewhere, I'd buy it. Though, nostalgia geeks probably have the price up to something ridiculous by now.

Cartoon Network is acutally doing really really bad in rateings right now. Toon Zone shows what there ratings are week to week and yeah there the worst it's ever been. Also they are thinking about canning Chower after it's season is over. So Chowder might be over at the end of the year. This info also came from Toon zone.

They probably don't care that the ratings are doing bad. There's this entire "change the channel's format" strategy. Part of that is to completely alienate your previous fanbase to make them go away and stop demanding the kind of shows they used to like. They then build from scratch to achieve the new format. The format will be reality tv bullshit and teeny bopper jailbait sluts using crappy situation comedies as a vehicle to sell CDs and Mp3s for Time Warner. Mark my word, that's where its going. I can see now Total Drama Island was obviously used as some sort of bridge to these new bullshit reality shows they're showing now.

"Clever things make people feel stupid and unexpected things make people scared." - Fry.

I can watch Jackass and laugh at it as much as say, "Blackadder", but man, no one's going to like "Blackadder" cause you need to be thinking to get most of the jokes.

Also, helps if you like British comedy...and history.

On the bright side, Greenblatt KNOWS it's pretty much dead and is giving us a 30 minute episode that's gonna give us closure.

If CN doesn't fuck up and air it in two fifteen minute parts over two weeks. Gah. Remember when they said you'd get a new episode of something that usually had two stories per half hour and you got two new half hours? Now Nick's all "10 NEW SPONGEBOB'S", which is not five hours of content, but two and a half.

Assholes.

Oh yeah, and Flapjack may or may not be dead. Thurop said CN might be killing it, but also that they might be saving it. He's got a "closure series finale" episode planned just in case though.

Random Useless Clarification:

Accoring to Greenblatt, CN doesn't "cancel" shows, they just don't renew them.

It's like saying WWE didn't release Chyna, they just didn't renew her (his? it's?) contract. Either way, you ain't seeing Chyna (or new Chowder) anytime soon.

I wonder though how long they can show reruns. Probably why TS fans are still fucked over I'm guessing.

Damn, I read this and thought, "Wait. The character designer for Parappa† is the creator of Chowder!!?"

But then I saw the extra "t" .
