Looking through the TV/Film subforum, I noticed that we didn't really have a thread like this... SOOO, Tell us what movies you've seen lately, and let us know what you thought of them....They don't have to be first-run theatrical releases necessarily, they can be from TV, Disc, PPV, Cable, anywhere at all! I'll start:

The Wrestler - This was a great film, and I don't use that term lightly. Certainly a welcome comeback for Mickey Rourke, in a very convincing (and touching ) portrayal as a nearly washed-up grappler coming to terms with his life. This one had me getting a little misty in parts. *snif!* One of my favorites of the last year!

Blood: The Last Vampire - Based on the manga of the same name,This one doesn't delve as deeply into the background of the characters as does the manga or the anime, but it boasts some pretty cool effects, and it clips along at a brisk pace. All in all fairly enjoyable, and a nice touch setting it in the 70's during the Vietnam War...

Push A pretty fair action flick, the premise being Mutants vs. a shadowy government agency. Set in Hong Kong, with oddly enough, a largely western cast, it makes for a painless hour and a half of escapist fun ^^

X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Speaking of mutants vs. govt. agencies, this one gives the backstory on pretty much everyone's favorite X-Man. Although the fanbois seemed to be unimpressed in general, I thiought this was one of the better 'X' entries - Certainly better than the third installment, and really, at this point I can't see anyone else in the Wolverine role other than Hugh Jackman. Not great, but pretty darn good - and I enjoyed some of the characters they introduced in this film - especially Gambit and Deadpool....

Well, those are the ones I've watched this week, let's hear which ones you guys have seen, and your thoughts on them! :)

It started out good for sure, but it lost it half way for me and just became incredibly corny. It should've probably just stayed a Wolverine/Sabertooth grudge-match instead of introducing all these b-characters.

Last film I saw before that was Star Trek and Angels and Demons. Star Trek was pretty decent. Don't know if I liked them blowing up Vulcan, but it was entertaining at least. New actors were pretty good too, I personally liked Spock and Scotty the most. CGI monster still looked fake though. XD

Angels and Demons was kinda blah and almost formulaic, although probalby not technically "bad." Could've been a little bit more provocative I'm thinking, but I guess the author/etc. probalby didn't want to piss off the religious people too bad.

I saw Terminator, Coraline and Angels and Demons, and "Le hérisson" 3 movies because it was the festival of the cinema, so places : 3€ xD
I would see Blood, the last vampire but at the last time, I don't know why, I didn't want to see it.

For "Le hérisson", it's the movie who is adapation of the book "The Elegance of the Hedgehog". I liked the book, I liked the movie too but I think there is so much things of the book which are missing.

Just got done with "Koyaanisqatsi".

This movie has no plot. It's just a bunch of images of people and stuff set to music by Phillip Glass. I'd love to find more movies which don't have any sort of logical plot and leave it up to the viewer to decide what it's really about, so if anyone knows anything like this, please let me know.

Me? I think it's about man's love of new technology and how it will eventually destroy us all.

Whole thing's on Youtube courtesy of MGM btw.

I saw Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs in theatres the other day ^^

It was pretty good; it had some hilarious parts, but also some meh parts... overall I'd maybe give it 3/5 stars :D

Watched 4 Fliest on Grey Velvet again. Took a second viewing the realize just how great the camera work is in this film. Especially the wide angle crane shots of locations and the panning shot of that follows the telephone call. Obviously, the beginning of his style that would be further emphasized in his later films. It also uses a creative editing style with some quick, dramatic cuts that gives this film an original feel.

"Ponyo".

Overall, I'd say it's better than "Princess Mononoke" (no one else will probably say this, but bleh) but not as good "Porco Rosso", "Totoro" or "The Castle of Cagliostro"*.

* - You kinda knew this though. I don't think he'll ever beat this one. "Porco Rosso" comes close though.

Probably going to see Ponyo this week. I agree Monoke wasn't all that, but it was ok. Xd I really wish I could see some of his Lupin III episodes, but I don't think that Geneon released of those of the episodes they did on DVD.

I keep re-watching

A.I.: Artifical Intellegence by Stephen Speillburg.

It's a 2001 movie, but I probably couldn't tell,

I GIVE IT 100/100
BECAUSE I CRIED FOR 2 HOURS AFTER THAT MOVIE!
