T-Boz tried to talk to me!

Felt I finally may as well make a thread for the film. So far I've seen it three times, including on opening night and once on Imax. Gotta say I think this is a fantastic film. Easily the best Superhero movie I've seen. I haven't really seen any other film in the genre use this level of character development, political commentary, and complex themes.

Favorite character of course is Rorschach, despite him being a conservative. XD My favorite scene was definitely when he dumped frying oil on that dude in the prison and then screamed, "I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me!" Completely badass. XD

I liked all the other characters too including alternate universe Nixon and Ozymandias who seemed to be an obvious parody of Superman but even more homoerotic. Also liked the second Silk Spectre who was extremely hot in this film. I liked the fact that nerdy, middle-aged, Adam West-esque Night-Owl got the girl. Also the fact the film blatantly ripped on people like McLaughlin Group and Lee Iacocca was pretty fucking awesome. XD

I have the original graphic novel now and plan on reading it soon. I also heard that the film was originally 4 hours long, but was cut down to three hours for theaters. Hopefully, we get the entire thing on Bluray soon. I definitely want to see what was left out.

Yeah, so a couple weeks ago I went to a certain site where a bunch of self-loathing nerds were talking trash, suggesting this film wouldn't make it's money back because of a drop-off in sales after the first big weekend. Watchmen's budget was 130 million. Just checked it, and it's over all gross so far is over 172 million. So yeah, this movie was a big success. It'll also make an absolute killing on DVD and Bluray making it to even bigger cash cow. I wonder why some nerds want their stuff to fail so hard. It's kinda sad really. I didn't expect this film to big as big as Star Wars, because it wasn't watered down for the average moron, but a success is a success.

OSHI-

Should seen this topic before. Sorry for the 1 1/2 month bump but I gotta post for pretty much my favourite movie (as of now; LotR is old news).

I love Watchmen, but I can't really say much because J-Syxx said it for me. XD

Anyway, Rorschach is also my favourite character; ya just gotta love his individual scenes (weirdly enough, I especially liked the bathroom part in the prison, when Nite Owl and Silk Spectre broke him out). Wasn't expecting the ending though, not having read the novel, but it was decent nonetheless. And there were enough carefully executed plot twists to keep you on your toes the entire time.

I mean, come on! The bad guy (Ozymandias) wants world peace, 'Superman' (Dr. Manhattan) comes to hate society, and 'Batman' (Nite Owl) just can't get it up. How further warped can you get?

The character I liked least was obviously The Comedian, for obvious reasons, but even he was badass. "The American dream? It came true. YOU'RE LOOKING AT IT!" God I love that quote.

Ozymandias I think was more of the obvious Superman parody, especially with his arctic base, homoerotic undertones, and everything. Dr. Manhattan I would say is closer to characters like Martian Manhunter and Vision. The Comedian definitely has shades of Nick Fury. Rorschach comes from a character called the Question, I believe. Watchmen originally was supposed to be about characters from Archie's "Mighty Comics" though, so a lot of the characters have counterparts from that universe as well.

I did not see this in theaters and I felt sad about it.

But I read it's being re-released with more footage so now I'm not so sad about it.

But are still kinda.

Come to think of it, Dr. Manhattan reminds me of The Sentry for some reason...maybe I'm mad or something...

Don't know that character, but but the influence must be the other way around since he was created in 2000 and Watchmen is from 1985.

True, lol

tbh I only know about The Sentry because I read Spider-Man comics sometimes, and in one of the issues (can't remember, lol) The Sentry removes the symbiotic killing machine Carnage from the world, splits the symbiote offa Kasady and leaves both of them to die. After that I read up a bit on Sentry and discovered a bit about who he was.

I just can't seem to find the connection I just previously had between him and Dr. Manhattan...

About two thirds way though the graphic novel. Obviously, it's a bit more intricate than the movie. Biggest way it's more intricate is with the duality of the images matching what is happening in the text to some degree, but not exactly, which is kind of strange but an interesting style for a comic-book. I wouldn't say one is better than the other. Its like a good book that produced a good movie. The film though I would give the edge for crisper dialogue, better action scenes, and better sex scenes. XD Other differences are that Laurie is about ten years older (although still pretty hot), Night Owl is a bit more pathetic, and Mr. Manhattan has a smaller package than in the film version. XD I like though how his outfit keeps shrinking int he comic to show his increasing detachment with mankind. lol
