T-Boz tried to talk to me!

Who is a fan of the franchise? I'm a big one. In fact, Aliens was one of my favorite films since about the age of 4. Yup, I had seen both Alien and Aliens at that age, and I'm not a serial killer (really :P). XD

Kinda hard to decide which of the first two is my favorite. Right now though I think I may give the edge to Alien. Just the cinematography and the set design in this film was mind-blowing. Probably the best I've seen in a horror film not made by Argento. The creepiness of the unknown created by the unpredictable foreign creature as well the claustrophobia produced inside the dingy, gothic designed space ship made this film excellent.

James Cameron said he wasn't trying to make another gothic horror film with Aliens. He wasn't but I felt this film was effortless creepy, atmospheric, and terrifying anyways. Add that with some badaass, face-paced action and a scifi plot involving space marines and you produce one of the greatest scifi movies ever made. Everything about this film was classic. It also produced very interesting b-characters like the android Bishop and sexy bad-ass Vasquez. The special effects, props, racketeering etc. was also incredibly cutting edige and still have yet to be matched in anything I have seen since including every film that used CGI. Really I look at people strange when they say they haven't seen this film. I think it should be required canon for anyone who likes films outside the genre of corny Adam Sandler films and terrible romantic comedies.

I liked the third film as well. I think it was an attempt to bring Aliens back to it's gothic horror roots. I also liked the seeming helplessness of the plot and the religious themes presented in the film were interesting. The dog-form of the Alien was also pretty creepy. Two major flaws in this film though are that they used too many people with British accents. I know it was filmed there, but so was Aleins and they used british actors who could sound American. Not to sound strange, but unless it takes place in the UK I don't see the purpose for the use of those accents in an American film. Second thing was the CGI was used before it's time imo. Someone should probably consider updating it at some point, because it distracts from the suspension of disbelief at points. I know the ending was a downer, but it was a good way to end the series if they weren't going to continue it.

Aliens Resurrection I felt was the weakest effort. Still a decent movie in it's own right, but I think it was missing the x-factor that made the previous movies good. I think they fell into the trap of trying to make it more like Aliens and more action oriented which is a hard task to pull off if you're not James Cameron. I think there needed to be more horror involved even if it did have action, which is what Aliens did. And not just gore, but the kind of innate terror and atmosphere that was present in the earlier films. I also don't think the director, etc. took the source material as seriously as he should have due to the removed Wall-Mart buying out Weyland-Yurtari joke. That said I'm not really against the idea of using a Ripley clone in the plot. You have to movie the storyline forward some how. I hope they do another film in this to follow up this one at some point. I also give this film a few points on the yuriness meter for some suggestive scenes between Ripley and Call.

Fun fact: I have never seen Aliens vs. Preadator. I decided to boycot the movie after I heard Paul W.S. Anderson was the director and it was going to be rated PG-13. I considered seeing the sequel for a short time but decided not to after horror fans pretty much panned it as some silly bullshit. I also have never seen the Resident Evil series. I boycotted that film after George A. Romero was fired and replaced by Paul W.S. Anderson. (do you see a trend here? XD)

Fact that will piss you the hell off: James Cameron was witting the script for a new Alien film in 2005. He stopped when Fox told them they didn't want to make the film anymore so they could focus on another AvP film. Now Fox seems uninterested in doing more installments because of people getting sick of the AvP series. Everyone else other than Fox wants to make it including Cameron, Scott Ridley, and Sigourney Weaver. Aren't corporations great? XD

Holy fuck. Cameron must be feeling pretty murderous at the moment, but now he wants to make, not just another Alien movie, but a AvP movie? Dunno how that would work, but it would probably be better than what Anderson could cook up.

(yeah I enjoyed the Alien movies too :D)

Alien is one of those many movies that I really need to watch.

I have "Predator" though. Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Apollo Creed and Detective John Kimble teaming up to fight Predators? Can't suck.

Random Fact: Ventura was in "Demolition Man", whose fanbase consists of me and someone else.

Also a classic film although more of a striclty action, scifi flick.

Probably the owner of Taco Bell since it's product placement was actually written into the script to make it seem like the fine dining of the future. XD Am I also the only one who doesn't understand the appeal of Sylvester Stalone? Well maybe to retarded people who he undoubtedly is a huge role-model to.

I don't really get him either aside from that movie, Rocky III and IV, Cobra, Over the Top, the Rambo franchise, and Death Race 2000.

As far as that last one goes, David Carradine could release a CD of him counting to 1,000 and I'd buy it.

Was gonna post these in the movie trailers thread, but there more well suited for this thread. If you haven't seen these films, get with the program already. XD IMO, Alien (at least with the first few films) is the greatest American science fiction and horror series ever. And that goes for both genres. I'd post the trailer for the last film, but there are probably too many spoilers for Alien 3.

Alien

Aliens

Alien3

Alien3 Teaser Trailler (obviously made for a different version of the film)

The first movie I loved for its scares... and that we got to see Sigourney in those skimpy knickers!

The second one, whilst I loved the action in it, the scares also got me good too.

The third one... I didn't initially love as the edits the studio forced in spoiled the thing, but on seeing the directors extended cut, I found it to be an amazing prequel.

The fourth...... crap.......... extended directors cut............... even crapper.

Yeah, she does look quite good in those tiny panties doesn't she? XD Probably my favorite moment of fanservice in a live action film.

Yeah, the film was written by the guy who did Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now as great as Buffy is, that show isn't exactly known for subtlety. The lack of subtlety in the characters and the complete lack of suspense and fear of the unknown is what made this film fail hard. He gets perhaps one extra credit point for including a little femslash, but it's not nearly enough to save this film at all. xD

I kept forgetting to post this but anyway, how the fuck did Radiorama not get sued for this?

S'not a very good record anyway. I can post it, but yeah, it's got like nothing from the movie and screams "terrible mainstream italo from the late 80s".

Maybe it wasn't popular enough to have been noticed by anyone, especially since its Italiano. Nice find though. XD Too bad its not a good album. You could definitely do some creepy, atmospheric stuff with that motif.

The only other record I can think of that's inspired by a movie is this one.

It's much better though, as it samples the movie. And has swears!

Honestly, the best ones usually have Claudio Simonetti as part of them. I just found out he was half of Capricorn, so he's basically perfect for awesome records.

Unrelated:

God damn this is awesome. It's like some old school Daft Punk shit.

Here's an update on the Bluray boxset that is coming:

Rumor: BD-exclusive Content for Alien Anthology

Posted November 5, 2009 08:12 AM by Juan Calonge

20th Century Fox Our friends at The Digital Bits have confirmed with "studio and industry sources" that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the 'Alien' anthology on Blu-ray during 2010, so it seems that the studio would not wait for Ridley Scott's future reboot/prequel. Reportedly, this set will include all four films in the series, all of the bonus content from the 'Alien Quadrilogy' DVD box set bonus content and substantial new, BD-exclusive material as well.

As usual, the above is unofficial until there is an announcement from the studio.

I think its already a confirmed thing that they're doing new HD masters for the films since I doubt they did so for the quadrilogy boxset. Hopefully, this "new content" includes a new cut of the Alien 3 extended version. The version with the Quadrilogy is already good, but I'd think they could put a little more effort twards imporving the audio for that cut scene near the opening. I would also rather have a version that includes some of the better elements of the theatrical cut like the dog instead of an ox chest-buster, and the
Spoiler: click to toggle

Either way, definitely looking forward to these more than almost any film on Bluray.

Note: Ridley Scott's new film is a prequel and not a reboot, so that's at least inaccurate. Due to how stupid Hollywood is now, most people, like the idiots at MTV, just assumed it would be a remake like Bob Zombie's Hickoween, but they're wrong.
