As for her being underwhelmed, its just one persons opinion who may not have been that interested in the film anyways.
There's always going to be at least one critic who will shit on a film regardless of what everyone else says.

It's true. I'm sure someone shit on "The Godfather" when it came out.
Argento still is a "cult" director though to a lot of these people and probably doesn't have their respect either that other directors would get easily. I mean I constantly see all these top 100 horror movies list. You're not going to tell me the Exorcist is better than Suspiria, or what ever else would be on the list like having Halloween but ignoring Deep Red even though Halloween is heavily influenced by it. They see things through a Hollywood perspective that treats most international film as an oddity except for shit that was smash hit here like Slumdog Millionaire. They don't see things though a horror/suspsense perspective like people who would point to him being the best like John Carpenter or George A. Romero. Also second mark against him is that he's only made two films that weren't horror, and we all know how much snooty critics write off the genre. So of course this broad would be heavily suspicious of an oscar winner working with Dario who hasn't had a financial hit in the states since 1980 or a hit that wasn't horror here ever. And even if Dario doesn't like this film himself wouldn't make it bad either, we all know how artsits are about their work. One review I read said it was more of a return to form than Mother of Tears and his best work since Phenomena. I'm not saying this film will be the shit for sure, but I've definitely learned to keep an open mind about these things and see them for myself first.

This is what happens when you are browsing discogs for album artwork.

I do not have this, I do not know where you can get this, but I'm pretty sure it's not that good.

Dario has his own page though.

No cool surprises or anything.

^ Tried finding a download, torrent, or anything of that single, and its pretty much impossible. Must be some pretty underground shit. xD

Hopefully, it includes him singing in English. There should also be a music video.

I usually hate terrible mid-90s euro-house (which this probably is), but if they include creepy Goblin synths and sounds of murder, this could be something else.

It could be as great as the b-side on this.

Whoever decided to combine sounds from "The Exorcist" with random x-rated dialog is my hero.

Edit: How awesome is the artwork on this?

Yeah, the soundtrack has similar art, but this looks better.

Like, I won't be totally confused if I saw "Tenebre" before "Suspiria" right?
I did it this way Last night. I know I waited like a year and shit, but my backlog sucks.

"Tenebre" > "Suspiria", though the latter isn't total crap. If there isn't a remix of "Flashing" with Lala Wendel (Maria Albaretto) screaming "Help Me" it needs to be done. Some of the twists were a tad predictable, but that ending was so worth it.

FWIW, I watched them with my mom and guess what? She not only loved them, she's interested in Argento. You converted two more fans Syxx and Laura.

Also, she swears she saw "Suspiria" before. I guess it's plausible that it got some TV airings, albeit with some edits.

If Suspira didn't work for you too much, try to watching it again some time. I think some of his movies may take multiple viewings for it to sink in, sort of like a good experimental album.

For where you mom might have seen it, Suspiria was show theatrically in the US in the late 70's. IFC shows Argento movies sometimes, including Suspiria. Due to the uber-violence though, I doubt it has ever been shown on normal broadcast tv or basic cable though.

I tried showing my mom Phenomena a long time ago, but she forced me to turn it off after the first ten minutes due to the gore. :lmao:

1. Theater is the most likely option, as we don't have IFC.

Yeah the "wall painting" scene is ridiculous. Another favorite is the dog chase scene that goes on for several minutes. So fantastic and so grueling. I've really never seen anything close to that in another horror or suspense movie. Another great one is when:

Also, is the italian better than the dub? I didn't hate the dub, except that Gianni didn't talk with an accent, and that bugged me.

The thing with Italiano movies and many international films from this time period is they all used international casts. While the Italian dub will have some characters speaking in original Italian, others will actually be dubbed into Italian because the actors were American, British, Spanish, etc. who didn't speak Italian. Usually, these tend to be the main characters who were hired to give the films star power. For example, in Tenebre, Peter Neal is an American actor named Anthony Franciosa who I pretty much doubt actually spoke fluent Italian when he was hired for this film. Other actors such as John Saxon were also not Italian. So if you watched Tenebre in Italian lots of the main characters would actually be dubbed. The whole concept people have of "original language track is the best" really doesn't apply to a lot of international films made from the 60's up until the international film industry died sometime in the later 80's. Each track will have dubbing unless it was made only for Italian consumption, which during this time was not the case for most movies that were any good. I usually just go with the English tracks for this reason.

Well some bit of non-news. Apparently, in a recent tv-interview Dario said he's not re-making Deep Red. I think he suggested that he would remake Deep Red in 3D sometime last year. Either that or it was a rumor something.

Have you heard anything about the release date for 'Giallo'? I thought it was supposed to get some sort of limited run at a few theaters this month - but I haven't seen anything about it lately... 0.o

I heard it's supposed to be released in Italy in February or March in Italy. In US, I have no idea. I thought the Weinsteins were involved in this supporting this production, so I would think it would get over here at some point. The financial death spiral they're in may have something to do with it. For all I know it's only shown at film fests so far.
