T-Boz tried to talk to me!

Is anyone watching it? I am. I guess I get really addicted to reality shows about cooking competitions. :lmao: I'm kinda pissed earlier seasons of this show and the original Iron Chef aren't on DVD.

Right now, I think Tre is going to win. He's got the skills and doesn't have a huge ego holding him back like some of the others.

I was backing Howie earlier, but he's really turning into a douchebag in recent episodes. I'm also not sure if he can cook anything other than pork tenderloin.

I didn't want to see Joey get knocked off, but I guess that's what he got for not listening to Hung when he told him to freeze all that pasta shit separately. :lmao:

I'm glad to see I'm not the only person whose noticed Howie keeps cooking pork all the damn time.

Clearly, the man knows how to cook pork. But one does not become a good chef if he can only cook ONE thing.

Unless he's gonna open "Howie's House Of Pork". Which probably won't do too well based on a limited menu.

Cooking shows are a BIG thing right now (just like all the court shows and 'how to' home improvement shows), one show leads to ten other "rip offs" or "wannabes". Anyone familiar with "hell's kitchen" by that British tyrant (imagine Simon Cowell who can grill filet mignon) on FOX, and "Iron chef" a Japanese import that went global to include chefs from America, France and China? Both are cool shows.

The best cooking TV show goes to Emeril...the New Orleans native of Portuguese parents introduced more Latin-themed southern cooking in ways to make me wanna cook and shout "BAM!". Another HOT item in the culinary world is Rachael Ray, as her favorite line : "How cool is that?" is way ahead of what's in her kitchen or on the plate.

I can't really watch Emeril or Rachel Ray. I like Iron Chef and Top Chef becuase they are about real competition. It's about skills and creativity like a rap battle or something. :lmao:

Why one needs Emeril and/or Rachel Ray when Alton Brown exists is beyond me.

Yes, he can use those knives like Wolverine.

Also, there's a local commericial for some store called "Express Kitchens" and their spokesman looks an awful lot like Howie. It's not him, but it's really kinda creepy.

And Howie manages to come off as an even bigger douche-bag than ever before and still escape elimination again like Houdini. Sara was obviously a weaker link, so I think he just go lucky that he was down there with her. If it was anyone else his ass would've been toast.

I like this show, but one thing I think is lacking is they don't show enough of the actually cooking. I guess that's becuase they have to cram all the reality stuff in there, as opposed to say Iron Chef.

And he cooked pork that FAILED.

Now that he's fucked up the one thing he can do well, he's so screwed.

Also, props to Dale for being comfortable enough to tell us he's gay on TV.

Doesn't make him a better (or worse) chef, but telling everyone on TV shows that he's not ashamed.

That's the second time that he cooked pork that failed. He completely blew it on the barbecue challenge as well. He was also a cook in Miami, but made a Cuban sandwich that sucked. They should've sent him home and kept Joey.

And I couldn't tell Dale was gay, but that's the case with most gay people. I thought it was funny that he basically got set up on a date with that guest judge chef and then was really excited to open the door for him. :lmao:

Also I now want cheesy grits with bacon wrapped shrimp. lol

I also noticed that Howie's last name is Kleinberg or something like it. First thought was "Howie? Jewish like me?"

I also suspect Tre might be gay as well. He seems kinda effiminate. Regardless of his sexual preference, he's probably the best chef on the show.

Hung's admitted to being bi or something on that audition tape.

Also, I'd kill for some cheesey grits. I can't fucking find a mix for them in grocery stores. I bet I could if I lived in say, Georgia.

Does anyone into cooking shows remember Edward Yoo, whose show is "Yoo can cook?" He's an Asian chef who likes to create Asian-influenced dishes, not entirely chow mein or moo goo gei pan. Many TV chefs use their ethnic background as one of their best strengths: Emeril and Rachael Ray are examples (French, Spanish, Italian, American, etc) though Emeril is Louisianan, while Ray is from New York.

I don't get the point on Howie tries to sell his "Jewishsness" to appeal or celebrate. (can he make traditionally Jewish dishes? I mean latkes or knew how to make a kosher version?) or Tre is comfortably "out of the closet" (or what Tril suspects), but I don't care 100% on who's gay...unless there's a large gay male audience.

Tril, did you ever tried to make "fried okra"? We may not live in the southeast, but okra is a very popular southern dish and I had some in Oklahoma (the farthest west of the historic "deep" south) when I visited my grandparents. Watercress is a common native Arkansas food, but held as "exotic" to many Northern states.

I don't really see what's effeminate about Tre, he just seems some what quiet and reserved, which is not something I think is un-masculine. He also has those huge guns. lol I went ahead and looked up the cast for more info, and it said he was the proud father of two. So unless he adopted, I'm guessing he's pretty straight.

The only other one I thought might have been gay was Sandee, but I was probably just stereotyping based off the haircut.

Do you watch the show Mike? lol I don't really remember Howie trying to be jewish, maybe something went over my head, but when I think of Howie the only thing that comes to mind is short, angry-ass bald-man who likes cooking pork. I don't know, but that doesn't exactly scream jewish to me. I also found this in his bio on bravo.com, which came off as kind of strange to me lol:

Due to his father's early death, Howie was raised by only women and has no problem communicating his feelings.

I do think Bravo has a big gay audience. A lot of their other reality shows like Queer Eye, Top Design, Flipping Out, Work Out, etc., etc. have gay main-people or contestants in them. I think the cast of Top Chef though was probably chosen based on cooking ability, as opposed to sexual orientation. They also show the Godfather non-stop. I don't know where that would fit in. lol

Off-topic, but am I the only one who thought Jackie from Work-Out was hot? :lmao:

Sandee is indeed a lesbian. I think she said something on the "Top Chef Interview Special" to Elan about how he's "not the right gender".

If that description of Howie DIDN'T include "likes cooking pork" he'd be pretty jewish. Short? Angry? Bald? Maybe. I'm just basing my idea based on that last name.

If given the chance, I'd so bang Casey from Top Chef. Unfourtantly, her bio pic makes her look not so good. She's way hotter on the show. Which is a relief, as I have no idea how much photoshop/airbrushing is done to those bio pics, and the show isn't airbrushed.

It just wouldn't be cost-effective.

Methinks you mean Martin Yan, and "Yan Can Cook" respectivly.

Yan keeps popping up on Iron Chef america as a judge. He's one of the best judges they have.

The worst is probably that asian lady who whenever she judges something Morimoto made acts like she's just eaten the most amazing thing and can't get off his dick.

Also, okra is LOVING awesome. It's just a pain in the ass to cook.

Try to find some pickled and/marinated okra. It's not easy, but it's really quite delicious.

Well, I was referring more to Mike who said he celebrates his Jewishness or something. lol

She's not bad. I don't know if I should mention this, but I would probably also go for Sara M. :lmao: I can't help it, I have a big thing for indian girls. :roflmao:

I haven't watched Iron Chef America since Big Pussy or whatever that fatass's name from the Soprano's was a guest judge and was bitching about how he doesn't like raw fish. I just can't take that show seriously, especially with Bobby Flay as an Iron Chef. The few times I tuned in, I notice everyone always chooses to battle him, which may mean he's either good or everyone thinks he's the easiest one to defeat. I just wish the original Iron Chef was on DVD.

I said this earlier: << Does anyone into cooking shows remember Edward Yoo, whose show is "Yoo can cook?" He's an Asian chef who likes to create Asian-influenced dishes, >>

He's a cook/host on my local PBS station, since Southern Cal. does have a wider variety of Asian foods (i.e. Chinese, Korean, Thai, Filipino, Indonesian, etc.) and Martin Yan "yan can cook" is a nationally televised cook host...coincidence or brothers separated at birth? (well...not literally). :holyshit: My home state has the largest Asian population in the U.S., but Hawaii has a higher percentage.

One can drive across large ethnic Asian neighborhoods of West L.A. (Koreatown), Orange county (Westminster), the South bay area (Redondo Beach), the San Gabriel valley (Covina), San Diego and Santa Barbara: large Asian grocery stores and exotic, but authentic Asian restaurants. I had the chance to try Korean BBQ, Thai red pepper soups and Sichuan fried Pork (regional Chinese dishes). :)

Jsyxx: <<Well, I was referring more to Mike who said he celebrates his Jewishness or something. lol>>

Ok...my bad  , but Kleinberg is a surname not limited to those of the Jewish faith. But a large number of practicing Jews can at least, touch or cook any pork, except the orthodox (or more traditional) segment is stricter on "kosher".

I personally worked for a hotel kitchen during high school and when passover rolled around, the management instructed us to have a kosher kitchen for 8 days and nights, due to a large banquet of an ultra-orthodox feast convention. The proper washing of dishes made specifically for meat, diary, and fruit/bread. We had the head rabbi check every 3 hours to supervise or approve the way we handle food stuffs, utensils or trays.

We don't know for sure Kleinberg is Jewish or not, The Torah only said you can't eat pork, but nothing referred to coming in contact with pigs. (the Islamic koran does warn Muslims to avoid pigs as a whole). It's ironic Christianity is an offshoot of Judaism 2,000 years ago but lacked the same dietary rules like the other...and Islam, partially influenced by Jewish Torah, has the food taboo.

Since I'm not sure Syxx has seen it yet, I'm just gonna say that last night's episode was...interesting.

The restaurant "war" is always fun to watch. Howie was surprisingly non-douch like!

And props to Sara M. for being the only person to be "different" in the quickfire.

Well, I just watched it. Don't worry I think Howie's douche-ness will rise to the surface next episode like a true douche. I'm surprised his risotto was slammed by the judges this time since they all seemed to love it the first episode. I think he will be gone soon, he just doesn't have the skills to hang with people like Tre and Hung.

The next episode will be interesting. I'm expecting "Restaurant April" to do better and "The Garage" to do worse due to the obvious conflict that could arise there.

Howie: I do my risotto differently!

Judge: Risotto's not supposed to be like that.

Howie: I do my risotto differently!

Unless someone royally fucks up next week, he's gone.

I was watching "Feasting On Asphalt" recently, and it looks like Food Network is making a reality show called "The Next Iron Chef".

Speaking as an Iron Chef fan, I don't think I can take whoever wins this at the same level as Sakai or even...Flay.

I'm sure they'll be better then me and all that, but Iron Chef? Nah. That's something you earn by working hard for years. Not winning a reality show. Not to say the contestants haven't.

Didn't they already rip off Top Chef with the Next Food Network Star? I watched a few episodes of that show. It was ok, but definitely no where as good as Top Chef.
