Good news for "Simpsons" fans (like me): The Simpsons movie is expected to debut in North America in August (I believe, unless I'm wrong). You can discuss the movie or show, anything related to the topic is fine by me. I was a Simpsons viewer when I was growing up, but was originally on 8:30pm Sundays and 8pm on Thursdays, not too late for a pre-teen boy.

From the first 30-second shorts on the "Tracie Ullman show" in 1987 to become a half-hour animated series since 1989 to include over 400 eps. to date, "the Simpsons" is perhaps the greatest cartoon show in history in popularity and fanfare.

Created by Matt Groening, a depressed and cynical, but parody creator of several comic strips Life is Hell and other toon shows Futurama, the "Simpsons" reveals what people can feel negative, but looks at life as "the way it is" .

We laugh with the jokes and situations as "the Simpsons" family: Homer (the dimwitted working man), Marge (the nagging matriarchal wife), Bart (the 10-year old spoiled brat), Lisa (the 8-year old mellow genius) and Maggie (the baby) and the town's characters in "Springfield, USA" does outrageous things. Anyone else loves the show...or gonna see the movie when it comes out?

I think I will probably see, because there seems to be a lot of oldschool references in it. I really don't care about the Simpsons post-1996 though. I really haven't sat through an entire episode for years.

I kinda want to see it. But I'm not much of a movie goer. I will probably wait until it comes out on DVD.

I think I summed it up on July 17th.

Quote:

First, the past seasons weren't all that great and I was disappointed.

Two, there's been nothing funny in the trailers aside from Spider-Pig and Harry Plopper. Hell, I'd much rather see "Homer Simpson's Exciting Pig Adventure." Right now.

Three, that british idiot at TSPA is now royally dedicated to pimping the show. I hate being in two fanbases with him. Because he sucks.

I'm not looking forward to it as much as someone who owns a whole crapload of Simpson's merchandise and quotes the show regualarly should be.

C'mon people <_< ...16 or 17 years on TV is a long run for any prime time series, be it animated or not. "The Simpsons" struck a chord in 1990 to depict a pessimistic, but satirical view of American life: The dwindling stability of the middle-class (look how "broke" the Simpsons got many times), environmental devatation (the Springfield nuclear power plant) and corruption in all levels (schools, city hall and federal)...but instead of crying over it  we're laughing with it . :lmao:

So is the show going to end now that they're doing a movie?

I don't know. Trillium may be right, it probably will suck. I may just see it out of curiosity though. I haven't really watched the Simpsons for years anyways, so why the hell not?

The show was best back in the early 90's when I think Conan O'Brian was on the staff. At some point they changed writers and it just wasn't funny or witty anymore. Recent episodes I have watched seem to be biting the random, cultural reference style of comedy from Family Guy.

Yeah, many Simpsons fans like me got tired of it and "dropped out", esp. when FOX moved it back to Sunday nights while I'm at high school (and can't watch the X-files as much...still watches reruns to keep track).

But the Simpsons has a large fan cult following (of course), therefore the movie was given to them who really love the show. If the Simpsons was taken off air on FOX, the fans won't fret...the show is forever alive on reurns in syndication.

I hope I'm wrong though. I think everyone does.

At least the soundtrack doesn't suck. But did we really expect crap from Hans Zimmer? I was hoping for Elfman, but hey, can't complain.

Today's writers aren't as good as they used to be. Swartwelder actually has a book out which I own. I haven't read it yet, but it's reportedly very funny. Like a really great Simpson's episode.

As far as Conan goes...he did write "Bart Get's Famous" which is one of my favortie episodes.

Krusty: "Well that's showbiz. One day, you're famous. Next day, you're just some shmo working in a box factory."
Box Factory Owner: "I heard that."

Also Homer: "My boys a box! DAMN YOU. A BOX!"

First ummm.....reviews are in.

Times UK: Contains, Spoilers 4/5, All Plot No Critique.

Bacon At The Movies! 5/5, Only Saw First 15 Minutes, Not Really a Critic.

Some are saying it's still gonna suck because these people like the new episodes.

I'm just hoping for funny. Funny, and a good Batman teaser.

LOL :lmao: :roflmao: I seen that episode, the one where Bart gets connected with an organized crime unit and hired him as the bartender? And they had a lil' meeting with principal Skinner who turned out missing and Bart was suspected of his disappearance, but Skinner is found alive by entering Bart's trial's final verdict! (oops...a lil' bit of a spoiler).

My local Fox affliate seems to never show that episode.

I haven't seen it in ages. To the point where I have forgotten the moments of pure hilarity.

I haven't seen "Cape Feare" in ages either, but I still know most of the hilarity. Mostly "Mr. Thompson", Homer's urges to be John Elway and this:

Marge: *Holding scissors* Bart, I'm gonna get you.
Bart: *scared*
Marge: Some ice cream at the store, I have a coupon.

Also:

Homer: Oh No! Someone's gonna kill me! Wait, it's for the boy.

P.S: Present Rotten Tomatoes score: 77%. Better then expected?

If you were worried that the show's classic magic will be lost with the show's present quality can forget it. It was awesome.

Funny? Yes. Jokes that had wit instead of "toilet humor"? Yes. Granted, those remain, but there's some pretty dang good zingers and pot-shots at pop culture. Most notably done by Bart at one particularly scene I'd rather not spoil.

And it had emotion. Heart. Soul. Not like the Family Guy movie, which wasn't so much a movie as three episodes slapped together.

This also felt like a legit, continuous story. Sure the plot is pretty batshit insane but they really couldn't make a movie that was "Bart get's expelled" or some small thing, it had to be BIG.

If you like the show, GO SEE IT. If not, eh, you can pass. But fans will not be disappointed.

I was told that there would be a Batman teaser, but sadly, there wasn't. It is on youtube though.

BTW, Dark Knight teaser kicks ass. The real one. Not the fake one.

I think I watched the teaser trailer on youtube. Does it just show the bat symbol crumbling? Can't tell anything form that, which I guess is the point of a teaser trailer. I hope this film is an improvement over the last one, becuase I was really not feeling it despite the hype people gave it.
