Well, Mike, I'm going to have to disagree with you and say Jason vs. Freddy was unadulterated trash. There was nothing scary or horror about that film. It was more like a cheesy remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla, although honestly I find most kaiju films had massively superior film-making. I can't really believe how lame that movie was after all the hype.

Aliens vs. Predator looked twice as bad being rated PG-fucking-13, directed by by acclaimed hack Paul W.S. Andrson, and having certain things happen in the plot that I read about. Thankfully, I have never seen this movie and have absolutely no will to do so ever. Even when it was showing for free on tv, I just flipped the channels right over it. Aliens was my favorite movie since I was like 5. I don't want to see the franchise watered down to lowest denominator, pop-corn movie bottom feeding.

Ok Jysxx...we have an opinion on horror flicks (Freddy vs. Jason gets mellow in a few scenes), but glad you enjoyed "Alien vs. Predator". Imagine an inter-galactic version of "Wild discovery" on Animal Planet on "animal territorial fights".

I must be one sadistic person (not really) to enjoy violent video games ("Mortal Kombat" or "Grand Theft Auto"), reading about serial killers who killed 10 or 50 or 100, or military regimes to indirectly put 10,000 or more to death, and even the National Geographic DVD "Miracle of Life" to watch a woman give birth...uncensored (for "educational" purposes). :holyshit:

Ok...time to head over to the video store and rent the "Faces of death" series... real-life images of horrible wanton violence, medical surgeries, bizarre accidents or 3rd world jail torture photos. Anyone know about those videos?

I didn't even want to watch Aliens vs. Predator, unless you were being sarcastic.

And the Faces of Death was mostly fake. Read this wikipedia article for details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faces_of_Death

Oh man...I made myself look stupid. :unknown: The other DVD was absolutely real...and the woman on the DvD is anonymous, but thought it's cute to have herself & child (the moment of life begins) be a field of study. " If I knew the DVD was "graphic" (actually my GF has it) I won't buy it but did out of curiousity...I'm a Nat'l. geographic subscriber and I get a discount for their stuff (mags, books, CDs and so on).

Back on horror films, have you seen "Halloween II" and "III"? The 3rd film was dumb...and I was "bored" to death. The first film was a classic, the 2nd wasn't bad (or "ain't too shabby"). The 3rd film is the murderer grew up and wanted to get his older sister...and "die hard fans" are unexcited: "Yeah, but he won't kill her"...and they are right. (oops...did I just gave it away?) :sob:

*1st paragraph edited by Mike. I was told it's offensive and "creepy" to joke like that, also to consider my GF is a single mom herself. I apologize to Jsyxx, since it offended his sensibilities...probably to others as well. :(

Faces of Death is an exploitation film from the exploitation era, so yeah you can't expect it to be legitimate at all. There is a few real things in there collected from archival news footage and what have you, but I'm sure a lot of stuff on your DVD was phony.

As for Halloween III, I think you are confused. Halloween III was about Tom Atkin's fight against Silver Shamrock, a company that used magic from Stone Hedge to make deadly Halloween masks. While pretty much a cheesey b-movie, I do enjoy it once in a while. I do generally agree though that Halloween I and II are the definitive Halloween movies. Once they lost John Carpenter and Dean Cundey (cinematographer), it was never the same.

If you liked Halloween I suggest checking out the films of Dario Argento and Mario Bava, which were some of the biggest influences on Halloween and the US slasher genre.

No offence but the haunting was unbelievably cheasy, I mean the effects were really egsagerated, I only watched it cos I was bored and there was nothing else on. Obviously a made for family veiwing horror movie :lmao: (although to be honest calling it a horror movie would probably be giving it to much credit <_< )

You're reading my mind.

I like horror movies becuase they usually have interesting, fantasy based plots that regular films don't use and sometimes use more interesting lighting, photography and special effects than regular films. I really haven't been scared by movies since I was 4. I just think they're good entertainment, at least the better ones.

If you really want to watch people get like, killed and stuff, there's plenty of it on-line.

And if you really want to see something freaky and possibly life-scarring, go and watch that footage of some european scientist who ages ago brought a dog back to life. But just the head. No body.

What about other horror movies shall I add to the thread you gotta watch? I recommend all of you (if you dare) to rent them:

* Leprechaun ("get back me gold!", since he's not a cute lil' elf).
* The Fly (the original and 80s versions, the other starred Jeff Goldblum).
* The blob (where a major US city has a BIG septic tank problem).
* Seven (a mass murderer kills people based on the "7 deadly sins").
and * Saw (a mega-sadistic cult classic takes place in a Slovakian prison, where similar torture tactics took place during the Communist era).
Edit: Pet Sematary. (that's really cool shit: a pet cemetery build on cursed American Indian burial ground...imagine your pet bird returns home as a demonic flesh-eatin zombie).

I haven't posted mine yet.

"American Psycho".

Before anyone screams at me that it's NOT a horror movie, I don't think it's a horror movie either. I think it's more of a black drama-comedy with 80s satire in it.

But some say it's a horror movie, so I guess it wins.
