For. 1. Read FOMA. Regardless of your position on the (non)recognition of same-sex relationships, FOMA is one of the most confusing and poorly worded resolutions on the books right now. It makes fairly little sense. 2. Gay marriage is not an international issue. This is coming from a player who's authored two resolutions on the subject: one that bans forced marriages (a clear human rights violation) and one that requires recognition of foreign marriages (a legitimate international issue). 3. The author of this proposal is a citizen of the Rejected Realms. |

(Not voting.) In truth I'm ambivalent about this. While no fan of FoMA, I'm also not wild about CoCR, and I'm concerned this repeal's rhetoric will solidify support for the latter resolution. We'll see. Incidentally, while I have no place to say this, I would recommend you not actively push this proposal. People will just vote against it to spite you. |

I've been avoiding this debate purposefully. What I say above are the first comments I've made about this proposal. And, then, I happen to be the first delegate approval. |

I am also not wild for CoCR and I would like to see the CoCR replaced. However, FoM is a flawed piece of legislation (the culture loophole is untenable and unenforceable). I'm FOR. I disagree with Christian Democrats - same-sex marriage is an international subject as much as forced marriage because it is a staple of social equality and civil rights. The FoM is flawed because it possesses an enormous loophole, a "cultural catch-all" which protects states which do not obey the rest of the resolution for "cultural reasons". ...no it doesn't. The word "cultural" doesn't even appear anywhere in the resolution. |

He probably meant the "religious communities" exception. I myself am unsure about nations in the past who've tried to exploit that loophole (and I'm speaking as the creator of the Creative Solutions Agency!), but it would be just as well not to keep it on the books just in case. I might be convinced as to the need for replacing COCR, but right now I'd rather not get too much into it as that might endanger this repeal's chances. Obviously I am the author of the repeal and would be perfectly happy to field any questions you guys may have on the matter. Many of you already know me through dealings in the WA; I am not a homophobe nor do I want to promote homophobia or anti-marriage equality sentiment with this repeal. I just have always hated FOMA (and wasn't a big fan of the original author, either) and want it off the books. With that I invoke my TRR citizenship and vote YES.

For. I agree with the reasoning of the repeal as well as Unibot's additional points. |
