An Interview With Venico

Rejected Times reporter Kogvuron recently sat down with Osiran delegate Venico at Rejected Times headquarters for an interview about the recent events in Osiris.

Kogvuron: Hello Venico, and welcome to the TRR Media studios. Thank you for agreeing to do this interview.
Venico: My pleasure :)

Kog: We have a letter from the audience to start from. Frattastan asks, "A coup? Can't you do something new?"
*Venico chuckles*
Venico: Well first off, I'd like to clarify that this isn't a coup. It's more along the lines of a civil war. There has been a group called the Empire in Osiris, who hold onto power and threaten Osiris anytime that it looks like they might not hold onto it any longer. I have found this unacceptable and after witnessing them threaten the Pharaoh, the region, the community...I decided to do what I could to help my region.

Kog: For those who may not know you, what is your background as a player?
Venico: I started off in Asgard. My friend in real life, Dave (you might know him as Koth), brought me into NationStates inadvertently when he was complaining about it and I did what I thought was right and joined to help him out. That was around July 2012 I believe. After that, Asgard dissolved, him and I created a raiding region together called The Brotherhood of Malice. I've gone in an out of retirement a few times but I ended up in Osiris with my friends. I started politicking and I haven't looked back.

Kog: Why do you feel that Osiris needed such a drastic action in order to remove the "hegemony of defender subversives"?
Venico: Because any time that action was taken against them politically, they'd remind whoever was in power that they'd go to war with them. They'd fly foreign flags in support and remind the government that they have couped almost every GCR before, including Osiris. So I decided to meet them on the battlefield. That is in regard to Empire, the rest of the "hegemony" consists of people who have put their fingers in Osiris just to push it to please their own agendas, never looking at what was best for the community. Rarely trying to glue the fractured Osiris together, but instead trying to grab their own piece of it.

Kog: Why do you classify The Empire members as defender?
Venico: Because that is where their roots lie, and where they were prolific (before they started couping GCRs for fun). Now I may not be factually accurate to a T here, so please forgive me. But they were both involved heavily with the ADN and RLA, some of the strongest defender alliances to have come across NS.

Kog: By the same coin though, could you not classify many prominent members as "defender subversives"? I don't want to sound like Unibot, but I don't understand the differentiation that you are making.
Venico: Some of the people are. That term does not encompass ALL defenders in Osiris. The stress on that term is on subversives. The defender is just the adjective.

Kog: Do you think that there are raider subversives in Osiris as well? If so, will they be purged too?
Venico: My general rule at this point is that if people are willing to be reasonable with me and sit down to talk, I'm willing to consider almost any Osiran as a friend to Osiris. On the same token, if anyone is going to side against me and try to stop the work that I am doing, they will be cut down. So for me, the raider/defender adjective isn't as important as their intentions with Osiris.

Kog: So why has the defender adjective been thrown around so much so far?
Venico: Because as it stands, the enemies that we currently are dealing with ARE defender. Or at least were. I don't know when the defender card expires. =P I believe that the adjective has been thrown around so much because Osiris has been so heavily manipulated by defender regions for political gains since its very creation. Up until I came out of retirement and actually joined Osiris, I just saw it objectively as another GCR that had been put under the thumb of some prolific defender organizations.

Kog: How long were you planning the... purge might be the word... for?
Venico: That one is a hard one to answer because at what point does it go from musing to planning? I'd say once I saw Biyah and his cohorts threaten Osiris with war for the second time since I had gotten here, I was already starting to set some wheels in motion. Once I saw how he was using his in game influence and proximity to the delegacy, not as a place to protect Osiris but as a seat of power to use it. That it wasn't just a one time thing, it was a pattern.

Kog: So, how long ago would that be, time-wise?
*Venico sighs and tries to think*
Venico: I'll go with a solid month. That may be slightly inaccurate but it is in the ball park.

Kog: How did you choose the name "Osiris Fraternal Order" for the new regime?
Venico: Well I wouldn't say it's a New Regime. It's the same government style as the last and the people are even the same, just minus Empire. And as I said before, Koth and I created The Brotherhood of Malice, we have always believe in heavy fraternal bonds amongst a region. The more you see yourself as a family, the easier things will be. And that's what I want to see, an Osiris that sees itself as a family.

Kog: Why do you think that Osiris needed to fall under the protection of another region?
Venico: Well, because Osiris simply couldn't remove Empire on its own. It has tried before and failed on every single occasion. So I brought in people who I knew were good. I brought in people who specialize in this very thing.

Kog: Adding onto your response, why did you choose tBOM to be the executor of the "cleaning", rather than a more active organization?
Venico: To be frank, it's MY region. I know what it's capable of and it has connections to many other powerful organizations. I run BoM and I know that it won't screw Osiris over. I'm not handing over my nation to someone else, or control over to another region. I know my intentions. Theirs may be too far.

Kog: BoM consists of pretty much you, Cormac, and Koth, though? So couldn't you just have appointed them as government officials without bringing in BoM?
Venico: BoM also has a military and connections to larger organizations. Although we have been inactive, we still pull more than a few endorsements with a quick text or a prod on skype. Also they were and are government officials. Cormac was the head of the security council and Koth was the head of the military.

Kog: This still could have been done without creating a protectorate though, don't you think? I mean, you can send those texts/skypes without bringing the region under protection of another one.
Venico: Honestly no. It would have been a less effective war front and I am letting people know that until the threats are gone, I am protecting Osiris. We are protecting Osiris.

Kog: Moving on, how long do you believe it will take for the region to be "secured"?
Venico: Well Kog it's a bad move in war to make predictions about times. But I'd say once Empire is gone, and any enemies who side with them are taken out, it shouldn't be too long. I apologize if I can't give you a specific time, because it all depends on how the battle pans out. I'm going until my objective is met.

Kog: Do you think that you will face a serious liberation attempt, if so, from who?
Venico: I mean, Empire are one of the best GCR fighters there are. I will not get cocky, they're good. I'll admit that. Honestly at this point, no organization has come out and said they are supporting the opposite side of the civil war. So I'm not going to call out people and push them either way, things will land where they do.

Kog: Why did you choose such a low endorsement cap?
Venico: Because we want to eliminate the possibility of people coming within striking distance, or gaining too much influence for themselves if they flip. I mean, we all know history. I'm not one who looks at it and tries to repeat mistakes.

Kog: Do you think that you will have the influence to enforce that cap?
Venico: So far, Osirans have been more than willing to pull endorsements and try to lower people down. And while I recognize that three might not be a realistic goal for every nation, it will certainly be achievable with nations who have very few endorsements.

Kog: What are the long-term plans for the region? Do you plan to draft a new constitution, hold elections under the existing constitution, or something else?
Venico: The same plans I've always had. Draft up a constitution since Asta left us without one. Once the war is over and we have ourselves a foundation work from there. But I don't think you'll see me involved in Osiran politics after this. I think I'll retire myself to culture and just work on the community.

Kog: Last question: Is JAL involved in this in any way, shape, or form?
Venico: I believe he has applied for citizenship on the new forums, but beyond that no. Unless Cormac or Koth are secretly Durk. =P

Kog: I can already smell another UDL conspiracy theory. Thank you for agreeing to be interviewed and we wish you well in the future.
Venico: Thank you for the interview. :)
