Senate By-election Election Results January 2012

The race began with Blake Hanover the current Vice President of TUF not meeting legislative activity requirement and subsequently being removed from office after Speaker Dante Tagariello-Hanover announced the issue. Edwin T. Baker, a rather new member to The United Federation, was first to announce his bid for Blake’s senate seat running on the Democratic-Republic Party ticker, followed by Grant Davis who is seemingly only active sporadically. Mr. Davis, however never officially signed up for candidacy and was never officially added to the ballot. Five days following Mr. Baker’s bid, Isaac Hanover, a member who fell to inactivity, announced he would also run for Blake’s senate seat as an Independent. After a Senate debate, elections commence with the winner being Edwin T. Baker who polled 66.7% of the vote leaving Isaac Hanover with only 33.3% of the vote. Mr. Hanover then moved to congratulate his opponent and mention it was a first defeat for him.

The Political Scope

After a tireless journey and countless debate of 25 days, the Senate has passed the proposed Cabinet Acts of 2012, which repealed the Cabinet Act of 2011. The argument between Senators was whether the new bill offered flexibility opposed to the old one and whether it implied for the future. The bill was ultimate passed 3-1. The Democratic - Republican Party still retains control of the Senate and the Executive. Will they bid for another Presidency comes March 1rst? Who knows, no plans have been publically projected as are less than 4 weeks until the election.

The Political News/Talk

With the new terms coming close, a state visit underway, and activity rising in TUF it is uncertain the outcome of the political elections in The United Federation. A surprise comes from the recent by-election where Isaac Hanover polled less than expected. Given that Edwin T. Baker is part of the ruling party I feel it is fair to just partisanship is not a key part of the DRP, while they hold down a common political ideology it is not glue. Mr. Hanover lost as quickly as he jumped to the election, but his policies, however are similar to that of Mr. Baker’s both progressive policies meant to help shape a better TUF. So why did people vote for Mr. Baker? Well there can be multiple answer for Mr. Baker won, without getting personal interview and such, it would be easy to conclude that Mr. Baker’s activity in comparison to Mr. Hanover’s is more recently active and in an election people vote partially on activity. Regardless of standings before the polls, activity needs to be a must, most voters do not want an old member returning who just wants a position, however not to say this has never happened. What is important is that Mr. Baker outlined his policies more so than Mr. Hanover and clear presence on the forum is sufficient.
Cities in TUF? That’s right, a city establishment bill is on its way in the Senate to be debated and take vote on. While this new piece of legislation does not affect any regional government or works, it will grant establishment a internal governmental program based on an established charter. There have been talks about instituting a city economy, which will most likely fail, however it is an opportunity not worth wasting.

RP Revamp?

After a massive decline in Role Playing activity, Cameron Hanover ordered the world RP to be shut down. Just days after members expressed want for the RP to stay open, Cameron accepted the resolution, however an entire reset is said to take place sometime in early February.

UK State Visit

In continuance in relations with the United Kingdom, a state visit is planned the second week of February beginning the 6th and ending on the 11th. Both TUF and UK look forward to events that will take place and relations are expected to grow between both regions. TUF invites all citizens of UK to join in on this event and take advantage of this experience.
