The Rejected Realms is NationStates' only ejection-free zone. It forms a refuge for those who find themselves no longer welcome in their previous regions, for whatever reason. We have a well-developed community here that is open to newcomers. Home to the Rejected Realms Army, the region is nonetheless welcoming to invaders, defenders, and neutrals alike.

Newcomers to the forum should register an account using their nation name, and start a new thread in the Introductions forum. Make sure you stop by the BBQ & Grill!

CD, I respect your pro-life opinion, and I'm not going to make this an abortion debate.

Having said that, though, to have a decent chance to be elected in any large region, you probably shouldn't state you would (nor should you actually) vote against the will of the people on such a broad category of resolutions such as abortion.

This is just a game, and voting in favour of the pro-choice/anti-life/baby-killing (pick your own label) position won't actually have any effect whatsoever on -actual- abortion. The fetuses/babies/poor human beings are all virtual.
I realize that. It's a matter of principle.

--------------

OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION (I'm not trying to start an abortion debate)

To make one thing clear to everyone here, I'd support going after doctors -- rather than women, often distraught teenagers -- if abortion were recriminalized (maybe a misdemeanor for adult women). In my opinion, the only abortions that should be legal are lifesaving abortions.

A few weeks ago, I read an interesting pro-life article (link); and I liked this quote, which has been on my mind lately: "(B)y playing one's life in reverse, as if in a movie, getting younger day by day until we reach Day One, we find no way to identify any day when we were essentially different from the day before -- until conception. The moment before, there was no 'me.'"

Anyway . . . it's just something to think about.

As you said yourself, off-topic and not really suitable for the Assembly.. You should move that to BBQ & Grill.

I normally stay out of others threads on elections I am in. However given the circumstances I'll give some advice here.

I understand your veiws on abortions. However if you are the delegate, especially In a large region. Your job isn't to vote on issues as you see fit. Your vote is not just the vote of a single nation, it's the vote that represents the entire region. It holds much more weight than any single nations vote. So that vote should be in keeping with the wishes of the region. While technically it's legal to vote as you see fit, it could also mean your term of delegate could be a short one if the region isn't happy with it.

I think if there's ever an exception to respecting the region in WA voting in a Feeder/Sinker or just a large general/non-niche-theme region (when and how early to vote are just variations in the area) it has to be part of some NS ideology rather than RL ideology...

TWP is the only feeder I know where "ideology" plays a part, TWP WA voting declares it is Nat Sov themed (and I played some part in formalising that) but even that can be overridden if the people wish on specific resolutions. Of course it could also be said that the TWP community supports the theme, which is why we could declare it in the first place (since part of it has Gatesville influences that has passed down etc)

I want to make this an abortion thread.
So just because you have your feelings about what you think Christianity is, and what the Faith believes in, why do you feel you get to dictate what a "distraught teenager" does with her body a thousand miles away?
Enjoy. This is the wisdom of the last sane man on Earth...gone mad.

this isn't an abortion thread however, and the assembly isn't the best place to have this discusion.

However perhaps you could persuade Internal affairs, that an open debate board would be a great place to have such a thing, and we could have it created.

I suppose it could be classified under "filibuster".
That being said, let me see if I can convince IA to create an open debate thread.
After consulting the great and powerful lord of Internal Affairs (may he live forever), our glorious leader has granted my most humble of requests.
And so I present TRR's very first abortion thread:

Um, I'm starting to get confused here about who's really the "fundamentalist" here, CD or Simon. Seems to me Simon, you're determined to bludgeon the pro-life out of CD even if to do it, you have to turn TRR forum into a mirror of the craziness that repeatedly burns NS General every 6 months or so. ;)
Peace,

Well that was the idea, yes.
You can take the tiger out of the NSG, but you can't take the NSG out of the tiger.
Hmm. That sounded better in my head. Especially because it indirectly implies that I am a tiger...
However, as Earth so thoughtfully pointed out, we should transfer the conversation elsewhere. And we have.
Which makes this thread kind of obsolete.
Enjoy. This is the wisdom of the last sane man on Earth...gone mad.
