Information: The Rejected Realms is NationStates' only ejection-free zone. It forms a refuge for those who find themselves no longer welcome in their previous regions, for whatever reason. We have a well-developed community here that is open to newcomers. Home to the Rejected Realms Army, the region is nonetheless welcoming to invaders, defenders, and neutrals alike. Newcomers to the forum should register an account using their nation name, and start a new thread in the Introductions forum. Make sure you stop by the BBQ & Grill! |

The Rejected Realms is establishing a Mentor scheme to assist those members of the region who are relatively new to NationStates. It is hoped that this will allow the veterans to share their experience and advice, helping people enjoy NS and get involved in the region. The scheme probably won't be all that active - maybe one or two people needing mentoring per month, but we need Mentors on standby for when they are needed. How the mentoring works is generally up to the Mentor and the Mentee - it can take place via PM, TG, IRC or whatever you think works best. It could last for weeks, or finish after just a couple of messages. There will be a thread posted in the Introductions forum, where those people in need of help can request a Mentor. (NOTE: this thread will be posted once we have a sufficient number of Mentors.) The assigning of Mentors will be up to the Internal Affairs Officer if necessary, though most the time it will probably be whichever Mentor is free and gets their first taking on the Mentee. If you are interested in helping out as a Mentor, please sign up here. If you want, you can list the areas you particularly want to, or really don't want to help with - this will help the IA Officer assign people the right Mentor for them. A mentoring scheme? Why? We'd like to think that TRR is an unconfusing place where you can see how things work and get involved easily. However, that might not be the case for everyone. In order to enhance the experience for newcomers in The Rejected Realms, newcomers should get a mentor, to guide them through the inner nooks and crannies of TRR, and also NationStates in general if they want, with TRR as a priority. Also, this is a good way for a newcomer to get a friend, and friends are important in NationStates. Is there any actual benefit from this? Definitely! Newcomers will learn more information about TRR and be able to get involved easier. It is in our best interests for everyone to get involved in TRR. Newcomers also gain a friend, as I said earlier, and mentors can know that they're making a difference. Why should I sign up to be a mentor? Sign up if you want to make a difference in someone's NationStates career. Hopefully a mentor will have a close relation with the mentee here, and this friendship will hopefully be fostered for the rest of the time in NationStates. If you want to be a mentor, you should be willing to talk to people that might not understand everything, you should be patient, nice, and available to talk. What will the mentors and mentees do? In the basic sense, the mentors can answer questions the mentees have, about TRR, or NationStates in general. The mentors will also talk with the mentees and be a support figure to them. |

Added and added. I'll prod one of the IA Officers to write up a thread for the Intro forum now, as I think we've got enough Mentors. |
