Firbolg +2 STR/WIS 6’3” – 6’9” 245 – 350 lbs. Medium Speed 5 Vision: Low-light Languages: Common, Giant Skill: +2 Endurance, Heal Fey creatures +2 to Fortitude Defense Listen to the Wind {encounter; minor; personal} (get +5 bonus to a single skill check made by end of next turn) Firbolg are kind, gentle people who contemplate nature and understand its delicate balance and ancient wisdom. Rousing them to action against someone is possible, though. Threatening them gets a look of disbelief – threatening that which they care for gets a look of death. Play a firbolg if you want… To have a primal connection regardless of class. To be hardy and strong, but with the wisdom to know when to use your might. To be a member of a race that favors the cleric, paladin, ranger, and warden classes. Physical Qualities At a glance, a firbolg is a dwarf – a really, really tall dwarf. Firbolg are related to giants, though, and as such comparing the two is liable to get some enmity from a dwarf and pity from a firbolg. Both cultures even have a love of beards. Their eyes are varying shades of brown or green. Young firbolg look even more like young dwarves than their parents look alike. They mature and grow quickly compared to dwarves, though. They reach age infirmities at around 90, but many live as long as 200 years. Playing a Firbolg Firbolg are not adventurers by nature, but exceptions exist. Many simply make pilgrimages to foreign lands, attempting to understand the world better and return with what was learned. They are highly attached to their homes, and become violent if that home is torn from them. Firbolgs do not understand the dragonborn’s love of honor – for them, honor is in ending the life of your prey mercifully quickly, not in fighting for pleasure. They see war as an abomination that should be a last resort if ever used. Nature does not war, nor is it cruel – only cold. Wisdom is in all things old. For a firbolg, this is not a belief, this is fact. Age means seeing a lot, which means learning a lot, which means that knowledge can be passed on. As the world is only younger than the gods and the primordials, they hold utmost respect for those three groups. A firbolg adventurer is odd, but not rare. They are likely from a ruined home, on a pilgrimage that’s taking longer than expected, or simply curious of the world. They may also adventure to protect those who cannot protect themselves from malevolent forces – they consider this righting nature’s balance. Firbolg Characteristics: Calm, considerate, pleasant, thoughtful, warm Male Names: Kanfur Female Names: Miun Forest Troll +4 CON 6’4” – 6’10” Heavy and stooped Medium Speed 6 Vision: Low-light Languages: Common, Giant Skill: +2 Endurance, Intimidate Reach 2 Proficient with all simple maces Regeneration {encounter; move; personal} (heal 2 hp/turn at heroic, 3/turn at paragon, 5/turn at epic; lasts for encounter) Trolls are generally an uncouth, dirty, smelly, and cannibalistic race. Forest trolls are only mildly uncouth, but their kin don’t give them the best reputations anyways. They almost revel in their reputation for being dangerous, however, seeing intimidation as the best way to carve a place for themselves. Play a forest troll if you want… To be respected only for your reputation as a monster. To be able to heal quickly if you’re hurt. To be a member of a race that favors the barbarian, fighter, druid, and warlock classes. Physical Qualities Forest trolls are tall and heavy, with stooped postures like their larger kin. They can stand up taller, but find it takes more effort, and is somehow uncomfortable. Despite their weight, though, they are not fat in the slightest. Like most trolls, forest trolls have awkward limbs that seem too long. They are built tough, with green, rubbery skin, and have hair that is often tangled and unwashed, at least as of late. Forest trolls just don’t care about grooming like most humanoids do. Their nails are thick, almost claw-like, but more than their hands they like to attack with thick branches and other mace-like objects. Every forest troll knows how to snap a good branch off and smack someone with it. Forest trolls physically mature at about 15 (some say they remain immature for about 50 years), and live until they’re 75. Forest trolls don’t get much older than that because their culture believes age is a weakness, and that it should be avoided. Therefore, no one knows how old a forest troll can really get. Playing a Forest Troll Forest trolls are loud, proud, tough, and could easily be called braggarts. They are a people with cousins known for causing destruction and mayhem, and while they don’t see random breaking of objects as fun, they do see their family tree’s reputation as the fastest way to carve a niche for themselves. A forest troll is not comfortable in a city – despite their volume and pride, they are actually insecure around the other races, simply for the fact that in large numbers (and they do have a numbers advantage) the trolls could be overwhelmed. As a result, they have what they might call a “healthy, begrudging respect” for the other races. “A troll at your side is the best weapon”, according to the few races that are comfortable around forest trolls. This maxim is perhaps quite accurate, for their skill in a fight is impressive. Though not mentally powerful, any problem they can smash through, they will with an almost practiced ease. Forest trolls were first born from trolls, unsurprisingly. However, the forest trolls were considered weaker due to their size and their weaker regeneration. They were thus cast out by any troll society that saw them live long enough to be adults. Forest trolls eventually banded together and were found by human explorers in several small tribes. After a few generations, the forest trolls and the civilized races reached an agreement, and they were integrated into society. Forest Troll Characteristics: blunt, cruel, cunning, large and in charge Male Names: Uramun Female Names: Saupen Oakkin +2 CON/CHA 5’10” – 6’5” 400 – 580 lbs. Medium Speed 5 Vision: Normal Languages: Common, Elven Skill: +2 History, Insight +1 AC, Fortitude, Will Rest in 4 hours when on natural ground Sturdy Stance {encounter, immediate interrupt, personal) (Resist 5 all for 1 turn at heroic, resist 10 at paragon, resist 15 at epic) Oakkin are descendants of treants, the people who resemble the trees themselves. Oakkin are very much like treants, but not as obviously plant-like in nature. Even the dwarves can respect their stamina and ability to take punishment, which the dwarves pride themselves on. Play an oakkin if you want… To be able to take a good blow and shrug it off. To stand tall and proud no matter the danger. To be a member of a race that favors the barbarian, bard, fighter, and warlock classes. Physical Qualities An oakkin often weighs more than two dragonborn put together, due to the structure of their body. They are essentially made from wood, almost appearing carved from a single tree trunk at times. They are often seen as exotically beautiful by other races, even with their thick limbs that seem more like oversized branches. Oakkin, oddly enough, have hair on their head. It is often brown, red, blonde, or green, depending on the season they were born in, but not falling out like leaves might. Oakkin are born from seeds that are planted in the ground, just like other plants, and as such are “born” from the earth more than their parents. Their skin is often the color of some wood, and their eyes are dark green to black with occasional browns. Oakkin children mature after about 35 years, and live 350 or so. However, a few oakkin have been recorded growing to the age of 400 or even 410. Oakkin, however, measure their age in decades, not years, which can make the unfamiliar think the oakkin are either lying about their age or really young. Playing an Oakkin Oakkin are a race of strong and beautiful people, their wills as strong as their bodies. They get along famously with elves for their love of nature, and dwarves for their sturdiness. Most races tend to give them respect, even if it’s begrudging. They have an innate connection to the wilds that few others do – those who do see great kinship. Oakkin revere trees and have many sayings, maxims, and ideas based around them. A common salute is, “may your roots grow deep and strong”; those who are warning a fool say, “even the eldest redwood may fall one day”; to show contempt, one might very well say, “may your seeds never touch fertile soil”, which actually refers to the efforts one makes as opposed to the sexual take many others have on that saying. Oakkin rarely adventure, but those that do always have a purpose. They may adventure to defend their homes better, to take down a threat to their homes, or simply for the spice of life. An oakkin who adventures often finds that they can learn a great deal from the less solid races, and thus will stick close to their companions whenever possible. Oakkin Charateristics: considerate, loyal, noble, rooted in reality Male Names: Root Female Names: Birch Elan +2 WIS/CHA 5’0” – 5’5” 90 – 130 lbs. Medium Speed 6 Vision: Low-light Languages: Common, Primordial Skill: +2 Arcana, Religion Elemental creatures Resist 5 + 1/2 character level psychic Insight (Glimpse future with their wisdom; +2 bonus to all defenses for 1 attack) Elan are elemental humanoids with immense psychic powers and resistance. They can glimpse the future, and fight with this knowledge. They are known for their great wisdom and will, and often go into the world with the plan of building their mind’s power simply for its own sake, not for any means or ends. Play an elan if you want… To have a psionic connection regardless of class. To be able to defend yourself with ease. To be a member of a race that favors the cleric, paladin, sorcerer, and wizard classes. Physical Characteristics Elan look a lot like humans, but their features are obviously otherworldly. Their ears are pointed like an elf’s, but far more dramatically, and their eyes glow softly when they experience powerful emotions. They also do not grow much facial hair – slower than a half-elf would. Elan children take 25 years to mature, and a grown elan can live as long as 300 years. Playing an Elan (incomplete) Elan Characteristics: aloof, careful, gentle, joyous Male Names: Ruesam Female Names: Iolina Flavor will be added later, in sparseness. |
