So we've got pet peeves and weird habits...what about things that just amuse you or make you smile? At one of the Starbucks near where I live, there are a half dozen or so tables outside on the sidewalk area in front of it (it's in a little strip mall). Just about every afternoon, when the weather is nice, there's an older, hippy-looking gentleman who sits out there with his coffee....and his gigantoid 80's era boom box, blasting music. No headphones, just playing his cassettes for everyone. In a world where everyone is so insular and stuck to their phones and MP3 players, he just makes me happy. It's also kind of a funny combination of Starbucks and dude with a boom box that is older than probably 3/4ths of the people inside the store. Granted it might be annoying if you're trying to sit out there too and have a conversation or concentrate, but as someone just passing buy I find him amusing. |

There is a little girl at our barn, 4.5 ish. She's the granddaughter of the head farm worker (maintenance, stall cleaning and feeding...no horse handling). This little girl LOVES horses. She also talks a mile a minute and can ask more questions than you thought possible. She annoys some of the boarders. I, however, find her delightful. The stuff she comes up with cracks me up. I wish I had a pony for her or could find a boarder with a small safe horse she could ride, but it hasn't worked out yet. Her dad is also scared of horses and is worried she will get hurt (not going to tell him that miss mare that almost took me out yesterday almost took out his daughter as well...but daughter did good sticking right next to me so she didn't get trampled). I seriously hope that he allows her to ride when she's a bit older because it just seems like torture to me to live around horses, but not be able to ever ride them. Snacky, as a mom, I appreciate that you take the time to talk with the lil kid. NOTHING makes me happier than when adults are kind and patient with my children. It is really sweet that you are fostering her love for horses. I am sure someday she will remember you as the lady who introduced her to her passion... I know how fondly I think of the Girl Scout Leader who was kind enough to arrange lessons for me when I was a kid. Indy your story about the Starbucks Guy.... I love random happy people like that! My kids amuse me, mostly.... Colton sees the world in such a different way, and often finds hours of giggles in really simple things. Stuff you wouldn't really take note of if you were "typical" I guess. This morning he played with a dish towel for hours.... tossing it in the air, swirling it around, all kinds of stuff. I guess if you wanted to be technical you could classify it as "stimming" but I think he was just having fun. M, on the flip side, is so exuberantly happy All. The. Time. it is hard not to be amused by her. I hope she always has that zest and excitement for life. My big guilty pleasure/amusement this time of year is to head down to the river, grab some sweet potato fries from the hot dog stand, and sit and watch the boats. It is so peaceful and the kids and I have a blast doing it. |

Ha! She doesn't even know my name. She does, however, know Elf and Zeda's names, knows which ones they are even if I am not with them, knows where they live and can tell you if they are a good horse or a "bad" horse. (both are good...but that doesn't mean their backends aren't bad. :teehee:) Edited by SnackPack, May 7 2013, 03:02 PM.

The small dog near the shore amused me today. Apparently he loves the ocean! He swam a few times but was too freaked out by the waves! Small thrills I know but my life is very limited at this point! |

Life is made up of small thrills. That is the stuff that really matters. I am easily amused. Yesterday, Francesca came walking out of her room wearing a sparkly silver skirt, a boy's skeleton shirt and a Santa hat. I had to ask about the Santa hat. Her reply, "My hair kept getting in my face while I was eating, so I had to put this hat on. Now I like it." She marches to her own drum. I like that she doesn't go to school, where she would learn to conform and worry about what other people though of her outfits. |

My youngest used to wear halloween costumes on regular "school" days at home. And I think I've told the story here before, but once on a school vacation day, someone we knew stopped at our house thinking we were someone else (long story) and she had her daughter with her also. My dd got up from the dining room table in full witches costume (complete with big hat) and I blurt out "we homeschool" as an explanation as to why my kids were home during the day. Somehow it didn't occur to me until later that a) the other kid wasn't in school so probably the mom didn't wonder why my kids were home; and b) it sounded like I was referring to the witches costume by explaining we homeschooled. You know, cause homeschool kids are weirdos - tada - just look at us! Every time I think of that story I am amused.

RH, I think you meant to post on the other thread, but yes I know exactly what you are saying and feeling. Honestly my only hope in life is that both my kids grow up safely, to be happy, kind, productive adults. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake. I just want them to be ok, you know? Hugs to you, mama.

My kittens amuse me. Mostly Athena, aka Laser Cat, aka Muffin amuses me. She is the weirdest cat I have ever met. She snores so loudly that it always makes me laugh! I had to capture it on video http://youtu.be/qf4Ehig1V8o The video is all black because she likes to sleep on top of the DVD player behind a cabinet door and she's a black cat and so she didn't show up in the dark, but the sound is there. She cracks me up. And she walks around the house at night yeowling. And she plays with pens and buries them under the kitchen rugs. And she brings out origami paper from I-don't-know-where and even brought out instructions on how to make an origami cow. Neither Mr. Fishy nor I have knowledge of even owning anything origami related!!! |

As I grow older I tend to take life a bit slower. Like...not going 101 mph. When the jerk behind me who has been tailgating me for miles finally blows my doors off I smile...and smile again as I pass him being put in handcuffs by the cop I KNEW was waiting behind the big oak. In my mispent youth, I was the one blowing off the doors of the snailpaced fuddys in front of me..

I ran to the grocery store at lunch time today. As I was looking for a parking space, a 20-something guy came out of the store, and "rode" his cart to his car, just like kids do, like a scooter. It made me laugh. I really needed that! |

I am amused by the guy who drives his remote control cars on the Main Street in my town. This is highway one! He zooms them around and about, even passing the cars. It is sort of freaky if you don't know it will be happening! I asked him if anyone ever ran them over or if the cops care! He said no! Just life in a small town I guess! |

When my cat gets the zoomies. Or when he plays hide-n-seek with me. Or when he falls off of something. In general, my cat amuses me.
