I'm so sorry for your loss. It is never easy, but you gave him such a wonderful life, and a peaceful ending. Bless you.

Thanks all. And I really mean that. Your support means so much, especially since I know you all completely understand.

I am doing relatively okay, considering. I miss him terribly, of course. Even though he'd been old for a while and didn't "do" much, I still walk into the living room and look to see where he's sleeping, check his water bowl to make sure it's full, remember that it's time for his meds, etc. There's a huge gap in the house where he was. I even sort of miss him coughing at night, though I don't miss that he was ill.

It's jus going to take time. I do feel like we made the right decision for him, even if it totally sucked for us. He was ready. Even the vet could see it in his eyes. I did the best I could for him, and we had 14 years together, which is actually more than I should expect.

So, yes, there are still some tears. But since he had been old and sick for a while I knew this day would come. Doesn't make it easier but it wasn't a shock. I have been trying to remember the good times and remember that I did what I reasonably could for Duffy and gave a shelter dog a good home for 14 years.

And it helps that I am very busy. And Lauren graduates tomorrow, which is another somewhat hard for me but joyful occasion, and so it helps all of us to remember that even though we are sad for ourselves, Duffy is not sad any more, and life can still have joy in it.
