Dang it, its May. Even here in western Wisconsin we do not have snow in May. Not a foot of it in one night. We were just finally getting our grass to start to turn green and the muddy paddocks to firm up and now... this! Trees were just ready to start their leaves, too. Not going to have an early first cutting of hay this year, that's for sure. And we had a drought (like many of you) last year so went into last winter short on hay. I fear for the scene at the horse auctions in the next month. |

Okay I will never ever ever again complain about Michigan. We still have barely budding trees and it is May 2nd. I feel for you. We had the coldest spring I can remember, as opposed to last spring where in March it was 80s for a week, everything came out. And a week later froze, all the blossoms on the farmers fruit trees were gone, No apple harvest here last fall. So this is better. It was 84 here yesterday, kind of a shock, Hopefully your freak snow will melt over the next day. |

That's nuts! Snow in May should not be allowed. |

Yes. Gunnar, we have a predicted high of 84 F next Thursday. Trouble is, that means over a foot of heavy wet snow (lots of moisture in it) will all melt suddenly. Here we have had a very late Spring so little growing, no ground cover. Erosion when snow melts and runs downhill (we are all hills here, Dancing Horse Hill is in part descriptive). We have the good fortune to live about a mile up the hill from the local river, but most of the nearby town is in the valley right by the river. If they have to release water from the lake behind the dam just 6 miles upstream, things are going to get very messy fast. |
