It was warm enough this morning to remove the winter clothes for a few days!! Her body shape has changed so much since surgery. She's smaller all over, even in the face.  her Arab buddy was MOST intrigued...which frankly just made her cranky. There's a tolerance...but certainly no love.

Ahhh yes, that would be snow  I'm not going to say I'm tired of snow...but I *AM* ready for spring. I'm optimistically washing my rugs today and mopping my floor.

Witchy she is better, but the experience of the move and surgery have been difficult for her to get over. Strange strange horse with a very looooooooooooooooooong memory for negative things. She is very insecure and oddly clingy with me, but she does seem to be getting past that now, thank the heavens. She's become very suspicious of anyone she doesn't know well, which is practically everyone. She was even a bit strange to me up until a few months ago, but she is finally coming around and beginning to enjoy me grooming her and spending time with her again. I've been lunging her a bit and she's been very well behaved and mostly agreeable, which is a HUGE improvement from last spring. She shows no real sign of interest to the other mares, either in the pasture or in the barn, and generally tolerates her pasture mate, as he does her. She injured her leg last week, probably mountaineering up the hill, but seems vastly improved this week so I will start lunging her again in the next few days. I'm waiting for more snow to melt as the bergs breaking off the roof and sliding down freak both of us out! How does anyone ever get comfortable with that????

You never really get comfortable with the ice and snow crashing off the roof, especially when it crashes on you. That's why when I lived in the Springs I bought a pvc pole, and scraped the last foot or so above the back porch down, before it melted and nailed me. I also had a doggy door to the back porch and I was worried about the dog getting smashed. Word to the wise-make sure parka pockets are securely fastened, or you end up with pockets of melting snow. |
