Posts: 5,758 Group: Members Member #211 Joined: January 7, 2007	I volunteer at our local thrift shop that benefits the shelter where I volunteered for years walking dogs and petting cats. Each year Mr. Fishy and I like to also foster - we've done mostly kittens, but have done a few puppy litters, too (which is how we got our two girls!). Yesterday at the store the shelter director came in and I said Mr. Fishy was looking forward to kitten season and she said "we just got a mom with her three 1-day old kittens today - can you take them?" Of course! So now we have them upstairs. And here they are . . . their eyes aren't even open yet! And mom: Sorry for the crappy photos - they were taken in low light and with my phone. I have no human experience myself, and have never fostered a mother with such young babies. Mom doesn't poop a lot. The first night there was a torrential storm of cat poo in the litter box. Yesterday she maybe pooped once. Overnight she didn't poop at all even though she ate two plates of wet food. Is it because she's nursing that she's not regular with her poops? Or maybe she's still a little stressed so isn't regular? I was worried at first about her producing milk because it looked like the babies were having a hard time latching on and mom doesn't have big bags of milk. But then again, she's a small cat and her babies are small (not like nursing big dogs I've seen). But everybody seems to have gotten the hang of it and when I checked on the babies this morning their bellies were big and full! I'll get more pictures when they open their eyes. The little tabby is FIERCE already! The tuxedo is very mellow and the grey is somewhere in between. v, I also love tabbies and "my" cats in the house are both tabby. Mr. Fishy's cats are black (one a tuxedo, one all black). For some reason the stripes just get me - they are so interesting!

We're on a bridge, Chaaaaaaaaarlie! Posts: 253 Group: Members Member #1,076 Joined: May 27, 2007	I have noticed in horses that mares who just foaled do not pass much manure for a few days. I attribute it to the mare suddenly having a lot more room in her insides for herself. Maybe it is the same for cats?
