I don't know if any of you read Momastery already, but it's a really sweet blog. The author posted this yesterday, and just wanted to share it

There is so much about this situation that is so sad! So many injured, people died, an entire city (and a nation) affected either directly or indirectly.

Also, the accounts I've heard today regarding the two men-- supposedly "respectful, intelligent, outgoing" guys... like how do you go from being a "normal" person to setting a bomb down, in a crowd, next to a child?? I just do not understand. It is heart wrenching.

Mr. FG is glued to the media following this story but I've been trying not to get too wrapped up in it-- it makes me too sad!

BGTB, thanks for posting that. I'm gonna follow that blog. Loved the article (and the design/layout of the blog, lol)

Hugs to the Bostonian TOCers... my thoughts are with you!

ETA: Also wanted to add, I am AMAZED at the way the authorities and the City of Boston have handled this! Really amazing.

We (myself and two colleagues/friends) had to go to Boston today for business. When we left KY only Watertown and Cambridge were on lock down. I have a few friends in those towns and saw their FB posts or I would have never known. When we landed my phone blew up.

So now we are in Boston, in our hotel, in lockdown. No clue if our meeting at the BCC will go on, but I guess its a waiting game. Luckily were in a part of town that is quiet and away from most of this but the news is scary. I hope they find him soon!

Yikes, JF! Right into the fray you go...be safe all of you up there. This is nothing to take lightly.

And with regard to the folks interviewed speaking so highly of the two suspects, it's just so weird to me. A good friend of ours lost his father, a decorated Marine general, on his way home from Olive Garden with his wife, when they were broadsided by a guy (kid) running from police in a carjacked car. The kids mother was interviewed and she said "my son wouldn't hurt a fly". He has a rap sheet including assault, robbery, driving on a suspended license, etc., all before the vehicular homicide and carjacking were added.

Is she just delusional? It seems to just add insult to injury, imo, for her to say something like that. :sigh:

Oh my goodness Jersey. Be safe. I keep checking the news in between barn and baby chores. I think we're all glued, hoping, praying they'll aprehend him. Who would hide him? I hope there aren't more people involved. It's bad enough to think two brothers could be this evil, but to think there are cells of people this evil is frigthening. I just finally saw a photo of the slain police officer and I cried. I don't know the man but I cried. So many senseless deaths in recent memory-I hope we never lose our humanity about them. That delusional mother Corey, I just pray that's never me. You want your kids to grow up to be solid citizens but I pray if I fail, I can at least admit it.

In the case of the aunt, I think she's clueless and just wanted to be on tv, like the aunt of Adam Lanza's mother who kept says all kinds of stupid stuff about how harmless he was, and it turns out she hadn't seen the mother or son in years. The uncle in Maryland is trying damage control I think, and is trying to distance himself from the brothers because he's afraid he'll be looked at. I think any relative that's not already a naturalized citizen better by worrying about their continued status here.

Jersey-be safe, and be careful.

I just read about the newlyweds who each lost a leg in the bombing. The news just keeps getting sadder.

I think you can know an aspect of a person without knowing the full person. Compartmentaliztion. Also people change, so the person you knew 5 years ago may not be the person they are today at all. I believe this is how you get comments like "he was such a nice boy, etc."

JF and all in the area: Stay safe.

I hope they find him soon...and take him alive. There are so many questions to answer (was it really them? were there accomplices? was there a "reason?" etc ...and honestly, I feel like justice needs to be served. I want him to suffer his fate for a long time, not just for a split second and be done. <--feels wrong to say that, but I want him to know that while the bombs went off, he didn't defeat the people he was intent to hurt.

Me too. As much as he is scum and doesn't deserve to walk the same earth as the good people he and his brother hurt, there are questions that need to be answered. Did they work alone? How did they get to this point? What happened? etc etc etc.
Being killed by cops is an easy way out, IMO. But I have a feeling he's going to be hard to take alive. I read/heard somewhere that the older brother had explosives on him and it wasn't just the gunfire that killed him so if that's the case with the younger brother getting him into custody before he can detonate himself might be hard.

agree. if we want to help prevent such things in the future, it's helpful to learn from the experience and obviously one of best ways to learn is to not have a dead suspect.

....glued to my TV. Hearing about the boat. Please take him alive :luck:

Thank goodness. Hopefully he's alive enough to stay alive and answer questions.

One of the newsfolks made an interesting point about them maybe being a part of something larger or planning something else. After the bombings, the brothers tried to go back to life as usual. The younger one went back to school. They didn't go on the run right away, didn't try to flee the country or go into hiding like one would expect. It wasn't until they were named suspects that they started to run.

I think Boston breathed a big sigh of relief last night! My poor friend in Watertown was on edge all day-I felt so bad for her!

We made the best of it, we are down a bit west of downtown, so it stayed quiet here. We kept posting "lockdown (pool, pizza, hot dog) party" pictures on FB to make light of the situation so our friends and families would stop freaking out. Good thing I was stuck here with two friends or would have been a really long day. My boss's assistant, our travel manager and my entire group that reports to me all called and emailed worried about us, but we assured them we were fine. I think my and my friends moms were freaking out.

We finally ventured out after the lockdown had been lifted to get some dinner, since we figured they had to have him located or they wouldn't let the city go back to normal all of a sudden. At dinner they were reporting finding a body, but later changed that to him being alive and by the time we got back he was pretty much capatured.

I spent a lot of time in this city when I was in college and it was super eerie to see it so quiet.

Indy-that's very interesting that they went back to their regular lives. And I agree that it probably means they were planning more, and possibly bigger things. Because the younger brother was naturalized (ironically enough on September 11, 2012) he can have his citizenship revoked as soon as he's convicted of a felony. Then he can be deported, or sent to Gitmo. I think they should deport him to Russia-I'm sure Vladimir Putin would love to take him in, and treat him appropriately.
