Trial-Yes, the man in the wheel chair survived, however he lost both legs below the knee. His family found out he was injured by seeing the picture. |

I hate that we live in a world where these types of things happen. My heart breaks for the city of Boston, the lives lost, and those who were injured. I hope whoever is responsible is swiftly apprehended and brought to justice. |

Thanks again for all the support everyone, it really means a lot. TS- I'm so sorry you didn't know about your DD, I'm glad I didn't know that or I would have been down there looking for her, I love that girl I'm not feeling nearly as raw about it now as I was Tuesday but all it takes is thinking about something like the possibility of TS's lovely DD being unaccounted for and I get sick to my stomach. I think it's the feeling of vulnerability and the fact that something that seems safe can become total chaos in an instant that is so scary.Has anyone heard from Miss Bri? She lives on the north shore. I hope she's ok. Tue night I bailed on riding to go to a talk my friend took part in at Harvard. It was planned before the attack but was so timely, it was all about living compassion. Each speaker spoke for about ten minutes and there was a panel discussion at the end. There was an amazing mix of speakers: the first speaker was an Iraq veteran whose mission was to use compassion to build trust with the Iraqi villages. They would go in and dig wells and build schools and develop relationships with the people. Then there was my friend who talked about her research using brain imaging to measure the effects of meditation on the brain and her interest in the medical effects of contemplative practices. The third speaker was a thirteen year old high schooler who had moved here from Guyana South America who has taken a stand against bullying in her school. The fourth speaker was an employee of the Harvard Divinity School who has started an interfaith prison education program. The last speaker was a couple who has started a community orchestra where they have adopted more cooperative practices into the structure of the symphony, and they give free and low cost performances to the public. They finished by playing a six minute piece. The room was filled with incredibly bright young people from all over the world asking really thoughtful questions. It was a thought provoking, fascinating night. Being there was so therapeutic, it was such a great reminder of why I love the place I live in. The wonderful middle eastern dinner afterwards with my friend and beautiful walk home with my DH through Cambridge didn't hurt either. This really is such a cool place. Last night I went to the barn and spent a long time at the barn grooming and riding my happy pony. Also very therapeutic and good for the soul. The support we've been getting from all over the place has made such a difference. I've also been very heartened by how giving so many of the local folks have been. (This is a great article 6,000 More Reasons to Love Boston) Boston has a reputation for being unfriendly. There are definitely cultural differences between here and places where people are more relaxed and gregarious, but I haven't found it to be an unfriendly place at all, I'm hopeful that maybe that perception has started to change. Jilli you should come visit us, we'd love to have you! I have mixed feelings about the gory pictures. On the one hand I think it's horrible that a family would find out a loved one is hurt in that manner, these pictures are also obviously not appropriate for children and it is inappropriate to put them in places that people can't avoid them (eg social media) but on the other hand I think they should be out there so people can see the very real impacts of such a horrible crime. Now I just hope they catch the bastard(s) Sorry for the novel, I obviously have a lot buzzing around in my brain right now.

It was that pic of the man in the wheelchair that prompted my rant on the Pet Peeve thread. I saw an unedited version on FB and let me tell you, it is an image I wish I had not ever viewed. It is just so horrific and sad. ![]() But BL I know what you mean about the photos, it is a double edged sword I guess. The talk at Harvard sounds interesting.... what a unique panel of speakers. I do think that compassion and kindness are so underrated. It makes both the giver and the receiver feel good. It is inspiring to hear stories of people who really LIVE compassion. |

Did you see the Boston Bruins game National Anthem singing on YouTube? It was so stirring. YouTube is the only place I could find it to play on my work computer. |

Yes, as previously stated the man in the wheelchair, Jeff Bauman, did survive. He's 27 and he lost both his legs. And yes I urge you to not go looking for the unedited picture. The National Anthem at the bruins game made me bawl. Just amazing. In case people have not seen the photos and video footage of the 2 suspects, here it is. 2 suspects, here it is. Seeing them is creeping me out bigtime. I don't even know why I just know I will have nightmares about them tonight. They are so sketchy the way they were walking down the street 5 feet away from eachother. Sick, sick people. I just can't imagine that they are out there somewhere. I'm so proud of this city. |

Frankly I was aghast at the unedited photo. It was all over facebook, And on my Grand Rapids Press front page. God I have no words, I have stayed away from all these threads because well I have nothing constructive to add except the anger. Praying for all the folks that have had their lives turned upside down,

Shit hit the fan overnight. I can't even keep up with the news right now. One of the suspects is dead. They car jacked a car, robbed a 7-11, killed an MIT police officer, shot an MBTA worker who is in critical condition, and the second suspect is at large all in less than 12 hours. Much of the city of Boston is pretty much on lockdown right now. It's being said they are 19 and 20 years old, brothers from Russia and they had lived in Cambridge for at least a year. This is scary, scary stuff. I don't work or live in the city and I don't want to leave my house. |

It's crazy! I can't wait to hear what their issue or motive is/was....I hope the 2nd suspect gets brought in alive. Feel bad for my Russian teacher and Russians around the world. They try hard to overcome this stereotype.... |

Safe at home here too, Boston. And I just saw that BellaLuna and her DH who live VERY close to the area being searched is safe at home. I have mixed emotions about whether they take him dead or alive, and I'm struggling with my feelings about that. |

Alive! There may be others involved/other targets. Not that taking him alive will mean he will say anything. I think authorities will find him dead, or he will choose "death by police" though. Hard to want to leave the house today. It's a scary world. Be safe everyone! |
