I opened up a savings account for Sloane yesterday. Which got me thinking, "perhaps I should get her a piggy bank so that she can save coins in there and then take to the bank when she amasses a pile--might help teach her about money and counting when she's old enough"......so I started looking for cute piggy banks, perhaps something horsey. Have y'all seen anything cute for a little kiddo to grow up with and have as a keepsake as an adult? We still have Mr. RH's childhood bank and I have my mother's that was made by her mother and wasn't given to me until I was old enough not to break it. She can have both of those one day, but not as her one to use herself when she's little. thanks for any ideas! |

PS- I had searched etsy for custom piggy banks and kind of liked the idea of these, with the window so that she could "see" her money adding up, but wasn't sure if I liked any of the patterns, or if they looked durable to hold up enough over time (or the price for what it is)...thoughts? http://www.etsy.com/listing/94891755/coin-bank-wood-piggy-bank-with-window |

OMG you're so funny! Piggy banks already! Just wait until you have a 5 gallon pail in your bedroom full of change like we do. Fun stuff! ![]() My girls have piggy banks that we painted at one of those pottery places when they were like 3 and 6. Certainly not works of art, but collectible to us at any rate. ![]() I will say that the appeal of putting money in it really didn't last. Maybe it's just our family, but they are entirely decorative objects that live on an upper shelf for viewing. I think the difference is that as kids in the 2000s....a handful of change doesn't get you much. My girls were much more interested in "the paper kind" of money, and I will probably find crumpled dollar bills in odd spots for years.

Ella had a cute pony one (also a matching night light) that I'm pretty sure I got from Wildhorse Feathers. Of course, we have gone through lots of piggy banks as she is obsessed with opening it up and counting money and the Es like to run around with them so they tend to break them. At one point they had super cute matching prince and princess piggy banks but they have since been replaced with ones that they painted themselves. |

LOL we have the same problem here. Makena has two cute piggy banks... they are ceramic pigs and are beautifully painted, she rec'd both as gifts. Unfortunately she loves to count her money and now Colton is in on the act too. So the piggy banks have taken a beating!! I would highly suggest getting one that might live through little people wanting to mess with it. We have a stuffed elephant piggy bank and when you put money in, it makes an elephant sound, which Colton LOVES. He also has a silver kangaroo a friend in Australia sent him. That too has held up well. |
