Not sure where you are in Maine, but wondering if you felt the earthquake tonight? Not sure if my fellow New Englanders felt anything either - our barn doors rattled a bit, but that was about it.

Ya my heart rate is finally back to normal. The center was about 30 miles as the crow flies from us. Felt as far away as up in Conway New Hampshire, down east coastal Maine and as far south as Boston. We went from a quiet night in front of the tv to the whole house shake rattle and rolling. And felt a weird subsonic kind of humming in my teeth and bones. Mine is a two story 9 room (white elephant) house over a hundred years old...she groaned a bit. Have some cracked horsehair plaster and will get a look at the brickwork tomorrow. we never had anything straight..or square...or plumb in this place any way because someone tore off the 3rd story 60 years ago and the house took it hard. ( Dear House-Please don't fall down on my head?)The Siamese Mafia all did credible Road Runner imitations, and All 7 had tails the size of pine cones and eyes like dinner plates. They just couldn't find the danger... and stalked around peering in corners and glaring at each other. For a half hour. I Had a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of an earth quake in my oh so safe state... The phones up here have been humming..everyone convincing the voice on the other end of the phone they are still sane..yes it was an earthquake. No we are not crazy. But a stiff drink may be in order.. |

I didn't feel it but it seems everyone around me did! All the way out to the Cape and as far south as RI and CT! Craziness.

That's so crazy! I'm glad everyone is okay! I'm sure CA people laugh at the rest of the country when we freak out over earthquakes but when you live somewhere that the earth isn't supposed to move, it's freaking disconcerting when it does. Tornadoes I can handle but earthquakes are not in my realm of preparedness! |

Mac, glad to hear everything is relatively undamaged, and that the Mafia was on patrol keeping you safe from other earthquake evils. The Lab contingent were alarmed (barking, running around, checking all the windows) but settled after a few minutes. While mild by most standards, it *is* still disconcerting - to Indy's point - to those of us more accustomed to Nor'easters and rogue leaf-peepers.

My sister lives in Eureka Ca...she laughed at a mere 4.0 rumble Said we who live in America's armpit have ice, cold, snow and tourists...we were not supposed to get earthquakes. I said it was Because of the ice, snow, cold and especially tourists the ground moved... Good thing Seabrook Nuclear was offline for refueling...

I was in Arlington MA and I didn't feel it! I never have felt an earthquake, which I think would be cool as long as no one gets hurt, like this one.I absolutely think we New Englanders have agreed to an exchange of sorts, we have months of cold, grey, ice, mush, and snow, but we do not have dangerous earthquakes, gigantic insects, or (many) dangerous snakes. It seems fair to me! I will admit I do chuckle when southerners/west coasters get a dusting of snow and a state of emergency is called
