Well for me it is anyway. Boo! Yesterday was the last of my season and while I managed a personal best swim, bike, and run pace it was only good enough for second. BUT I was the fastest female on the bike in the whole triathlon and finally broke the 20mph mark so I'm cool with it. The distances were definitely to my disadvantage (short swim, short bike, long run) so I knew I'd have my work cut out for me. Fun end to the season though. Now time to focus on the 3M half marathon. Groan.6 triathlons since I started in June with two firsts, two seconds, a fourth and fifth. Just made my schedule for next season and there's some pretty lofty goals on it that I'm not sure I'm ready to admit publically. Hopefully not too lofty. Some pics from the past few weeks... That's fantastic, lhunterl! I love the photos too and it sounds as though you are definitely cut out for the sport, given your success this summer. Congrats!! PS do you find the compression sleeves helpful? I have circulation issues in one leg and it tends to cramp and swell after running. I had wondered if a compression sleeve might help at all. Guess it can't hurt to try. Edited by FlashGordon, Oct 15 2012, 10:50 AM.

I loooove the compression sleeves. I always sleep in them after a hard run and can really tell the difference the next day. Are you foam rolling? |

I have never heard of foam rolling, but just googled and will have to give it a try. I have damage to a valve behind my knee and running really causes a lot of pain in that calf. I had to stop this summer as a result. I would love to find some ways to manage it so that I can get back to it. I also wondered about going to PT to see if they had any ideas... Anyway sorry to derail the thread! I really love hearing about your triathlon adventures so please keep sharing! |

get The Grid foam roller and use it at least once a day (on everything - hamstrings, IT band, calves, quads, etc). It really really helps. I have calf issues too... lots of stretching and foam rolling have definitely made a difference. Sometimes it hurts like hell but it's one of those good kinds of pain.

Oh, and my scary lofty goals... two half ironmans next year (1.2mi swim, 56mi bike, 13.1mi run) with the big goal being the full distance Ironman Texas in 2014. I'm not quite sure what I'm thinking by voluntarily paying hundreds of dollars to swim 2.4 miles in a murky lake, bike 112 miles through the wind and hills, then run a 26.2 mile marathon in full force Houston heat and humidity. There's just something about the words "YOU ARE AN IRONMAN" when crossing the finish line... gives me chills. I really want to hear that just once in my life. Bucket list! Plus then I earn the right to put a cool 140.6 sticker on my car.
