I lurk on this board waaaaaaay more than I post, but just wanted to add my good wishes to your friend. I'm 36 and was diagnosed with Stage II Grade III Breast Cancer back in March. Had a mastectomy right away, and finished chemo in August. Other than being boob-less and hair-less I'm almost back to normal, and it's only been seven months from diagnosis....... Now the fun of planning the reconstruction starts!

There has been so many advances in the breast cancer areas, and depending on the size, location and grade there will likely be many options available to her. As scary and horrible as it is at the outset, there can be light at the end of the tunnel.

If there's anything this internet stranger can do to help, just let me know :jingles: :jingles: :jingles: :jingles:

Jingles for your friend. I also lurked and don't post often.
I was diagnosed in 99 and had a mastectomy, chemo, no reconstruction. I did not want something hiding a recurrence... and in June, bingo, it came back. I was lucky (in a way) that both times I had pain which alerted me! This time, they could only diagnose with removal of the lump (the biopsies were inconclusive...). So I now have 4 scars in my "breast" and I should be starting radiation hopefully this week. Luckily, it was the same type as before, in the same spot and the surgeon got clean margins. But I want to start radiation NOW... I am just waiting for my schedule and the date of the first treatment (6 weeks of 5 treatments a week).
Chemo was not bad, I shaved my head and recovered quickly. This time, I don't think I could have faced chemo again (my veins are shot)... both oncologists are very positive that radiation and "anti estrogen" medication will do the trick. Sigh... but I am much calmer this time!
Good luck to your friend!

Boy you guys! Yes good luck to you!

Shawn ran in her 1st half marathon yesterday. Kelly ( the sister) surprised her by running with her! I am proud of Shawn. I do not know the specifics but when I get home I will.

Shawn has a close strong family and I know she will survive this!

Thanks everyone!
