I'm so sorry for the loss of your best friend. Portrait looks lovely! I agree about having a big dog. I want another small dog because I like having something to cuddle with on the couch, but I love my big dogs for their big barks and protection. |

I'm so sorry to hear about Cocoa Portrait is beautiful. I say go for it, I think you have a good game plan with staying with her for a bit and then getting a sitter for a while. I bet she'll settle in just nicely to her new home. There is something nice about big dogs. Small dogs have their conveniences, but that big dog bark is pretty darned comforting. |

Like others have said, I cannot imagine you without a dog companion. I know no other dog will be Cocoa, but I also think you're right that if Cocoa could speak, she would want some other dog to have the love and care that you gave her.  And honestly, aside from the long days alone, I think any dog would be darn lucky to have a life with you. I too think you should go for your gut instinct. None of us really know what we're "getting" when we adopt a new dog. At least you know Portrait gets along with other dogs (something I always wish was different with Duffy, though I love him so much). Shephards are generally pretty intelligent, so I bet she would learn the routine around your house once she settled in. As far as not leaving the yard, like you and others have said, if a dog REALLY wants to leave, they will find a way. I bet she sticks around once she knows how great she'd have it with you.  And honestly? I just like the look of her. She has kind eyes and an intelligent look. And a bigger dog would most likely be a better hiking companion.  Let us know what you decide!! If not her - you know very well there are tons more to choose from! My problem would not be whether to get a dog, but which one!! |

After a week of torturing myself, thinking too much, and sleepless nights, I have come to my decision. I'm getting her, and soon! She will be with me this weekend. I can take her on a one month trial. Thank you everyone for your support and kind words. I hope that Cocoa would approve and I think she would.  and  's.

Wonderful! I can't wait to hear all about your lovely new girl. And see lots of pictures. I'm sure Cocoa would approve of this very much. She knew what a wonderful dog-momma you were to her and now there is another beautiful Shepherd girl that needs you as much as you need her. |

I saw on FB that you got her and also saw the short video that they put up. She looks like an absolutely wonderful dog! I love Shepherds and she looks like one of the good ones! |
