Found this place online and thought it would be really nice to vacation there and take Kate, our Dobe. Has anyone every stayed there? It looks ideal for us, near Asheville, mountains, some hiking nearby and fences for Kate. It seems to be pretty booked which is a good sign I think. Any thoughts? Barkswell Pet Friendly Cabins |

I wish we were not in Washington, I would totally vacation there with my dogs! We love to take the girls with us on vacation, it is so much fun. Our favorite is the Sleeping Lady, which has pet friendly cabins, hiking, and AWESOME food Sleeping Lady Lodge I highly recommend vacationing with your dog, if possible. Great for them to get out and socialize, plus you know they are being taken care of! and... gratuitous pics of our girls Sage and Dala Have fun Desilu! |

Wow Kbrethauer, The Sleeping Lady Lodge looks fantastic. Wish I was in YOUR state! It looks like it has much more of a resort type atmosphere than the Barkswell but this place in North Carolina seems to be all about the dogs. I think we would have fun because she would have so much fun. It would be much less stressful than leaving her at a boarding kennel while we vacation elsewhere.Love the pics of your pups. They are not of a breed I am familiar with so thanks for sharing them. This is Kate: ![]() We adopted her almost 2 years ago from a local shelter. It's hard to leave her behind if we go out of town, although we rarely go out of town together. This looks like a perfect solution. Now to see if we can get our vacation approved, always a chore. |

Desilu, Kate is BEAUTIFUL . I love Dobs!!! It would be awesome to have a place like Barkswell close to us. I bet it will be tons of fun. I do love the fenced part. Sleeping Lady is wonderful and amazing, but it looks like at Barkswell your dog will have the time of their life I hear you about leaving them... It can be pretty tough, just like leaving your horse. I constantly worry about how they are doing, etc... Good luck on getting vacation approved!

Barkwell looks really nice! We usually take our dogs on trips with us as well, though we can't do places like Barkwell. One dog does great with other dogs, but the other is pretty intolerant of rude/exuberant dogs bounding up to him and getting in his face, and he won't hesitate to let dogs like that know he wants to be left alone. Less-educated dog owners think their dogs are fine, "just being friendly," and my dog is being "aggressive" ... so it's best for us to rent a pet-friendly cabin and just take them both hiking with us. Their leash manners are great and it's just a more enjoyable way to vacation. After an 8-mile day, they are pretty tuckered out. So DH and I shower, feed them, crate them and then head out to dinner. So far it's worked out pretty well, and we're in the process of finding a rental cabin near Boone for October. Should be some super nice hiking weather, though last time we got sleeted on.

I just went to Asheville. It is awesome! Most micro-breweries per mile in the world I heard. I have been there before, but this time did more exploring. Had a fabulous meal at a tapas restaurant. All our meals were fabulous - every night! Went to The Biltmore (had discount tickets from work). Absolutely wonderful. Get the audio tour! We went on a Monday in September. Very few people. Such an amazing place! I also recommend, for future visitors to the area, Bat Cave NC
