I ordered the Ariat Volant Half Chaps because I really like the Spanish tops. I read some of the reviews and I am not sure if they will work out or not, but I thought I would give them a try. I ordered "normal" ariat paddock boots to go with them. I didn't order the tennis shoe-type that goes with the Volants. I also like the sporty look of them. It is my little splurge for selling my house. :cheer:

I love, love, love my Grand Prix half chaps. They are the Italian made ones and don't have the stretch panel, I cannot seem to find them online. The leather is gorgeous. The lady at the shop put them on me and they barely went on, then she hosed my legs down with hot water, now they are so comfortable and better than custom.

Here is a really big picture of me in them after owning them for 6+ months and riding in them every day. They do clean up well!

I have the same ones in brown, I got mine at Dover about 5 years ago. They won't die, and I've had lots of compliments on them.

So, I got the Volants (like the link above) and wanted to give a quick review.

They are different in a good way. Kind of sporty looking and the leather is a nice quality. Mine have a bump at the back of the calf where the zipper is. It is at the largest part of my calf. The swirls on the side kind of add to the bump. That being said, my calves contribute to that look, too. My calves are certainly not straight up and down.

Riding in them is great. They keep your leg still and are not slippery at all. The snap at the top stays closed and the zipper stays up. They are tall enough for me. They zipper from bottom to top. I am not very flexible and that has been hard to get used to. My field boots don't have zippers, but I imagine the chaps are harder to zip since they come all the way apart and you have to get it started.

Overall, I might be a convert to half chaps and leave my full chaps for the cold days. It has been much cooler!

I have a pair of Ariats that I like well enough but I'm a die hard fan of full chaps. I could give two snuffs if I'm styleish or not. I've had my full chaps for at least 5 years and I don't know what I'd do without them. I don't think I can ever fully convert.;)
