I pulled Remi out to ride him tonight and he was lame :( at the walk and head bobbing at the trot. He has some soft swelling on the inside of his front cannon. I wrapped it and left him in tonight and am calling the vet first thing in the morning. Really hoping it's just something minor but am worried about my boy... so I figured some of those good TOC jingles might help. He hasn't taken an off step since I bought him a year ago so I have no frame of reference for how wussy or stoic he is about pain. Super bummed right now!

Thanks, ladies!!! Vet came out this morning and it was a nasty abscess in his heel bulb. She pulled his shoe and got it to drain, which I guess is good even though it was :spew: . Now the fun begins... soaking and wrapping every day. I haven't had a horse with an abscess in like 10 years so I'm out of practice! She wants me to keep it wrapped for 2 weeks, my farrier comes on 6/15 so I guess I'll wrap it till then and have the farrier give it his blessing before putting a shoe back on.

So it looks like Remi's summer vacation has started and will last a few weeks :sigh: . I had just had two really good rides on him this past weekend and was so happy with his progress, hopefully this doesn't set him back. However, I'm very relieved it's nothing major, I was scared it was a tendon or ligament injury. Hopefully the ding-a-ling will be able to keep the wrap on, otherwise he'll be in pony prison (a/k/a stall rest).

I was hoping that was it. Usually if my horse was sound the day before when I put him away and is completely head bobbing the next day, an abscess is to blame.
