My farrier is coming tonight to do a farrier/hoof care demo for our 4H kids....with luck he's also bringing a preserved cadaver hoof so we can see the internal structures too. :woot:

Tonight we'll just send him off with a gift box of some brownies & cookies, but we want to give him a little gift for doing this....any ideas? We will have someone take some pictures, and we are going to submit an update to the 4H newsletter describing his demo, so we'll get him a copy of that too - but we'd like to give him something also.

Any ideas? It would sort of be from the kids, so has to be kid appropriate (no beer, etc.) And not too big or it will make him uncomfortable. He's really excited to do this for us. :)

It is a custom where I live when a small business does something nice for a family or
group that a "Card of Thanks" is placed into the local newspaper. This is a paid classified
which simply states who provided what for which recipient. It is a form of thanks which
also helps to advertise the service of the donor. If the farrier might want more clients,
this would tell them of his existence and that he is "one of the good guys" in his business.

That's a good idea too! I'm not sure if there is a local paper that does such a thing (probably there is) but we will put it in the 4H newsletter which will be good too.

One idea we had was to hopefully get a nice shot of him teaching the the kids and have the kids give it to him in a horseshoe frame with a thank-you note. I hope we get at least one good picture, otherwise we're back to the drawing board! :)

Just updating that I think I got a good shot of my farrier talking to the kids.

But the most exciting part was the BLM mustang cadaver hoof - wow!! Really cool to look at - it hinges open and half of it is trimmed, while the other half is in its original, gnarly state. Really neat presentation and the kids were very impressed.
