Long story short, basically rescued a pony yesterday. I wormed it with Strongid this morning and now these worms are in her poo.

Are they tape worms?

Ugh. As usual, having photo difficulties.

Now I can't get to this site on my computer, just the phone. I'll have to post on TOB.

Here's a gross and funny tape worm story for you. My cat, Stripey Cat, was sitting on my lap one day and sneezed. Well, he must have done a sneeze-fart kind of thing because I looked down and a worm came out of his butt and was on ME - eeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!! :spew:

Fish Cheeks that is soooooo gross! I would die!

Flash, I wanted a buddy for my mare. I have two other geldings here but in another pasture. When they get out of her sight, she just sulks at the fenceline. I found this pony through Craigslist. She was free but honestly it felt mire like a rescue. The "farm" where we picked her up was a disaster. Ponies and goats everywhere. They were breeding more too :( Everyone's feet looked terrible. This pony had a broken halter hanging off her head that was SO tight through the throat. She has a big indent where it use to cross her nose.

She's a nice little mare but timid. We bathed and fly sprayed her so I'm sure she was handled at some point in her life.

The photos on my phone are always too large to post here. Let me try the Flickr links.

Not to gross you out further, but Strongid (aka pyrantel pamoate) is only partially effective against tapeworms. Indeed, most vets who still recommend Strongid to combat tapeworms are recommending a double dose of Strongid for that. And even double pyrantel pamoate isn't nearly as effective as praziquantel in wiping out tapeworms.

The point being, if she's pooping out tapeworms on a single dose of Strongid, she either has the wussiest tapeworms on the planet or she's got more tapeworms where that came from. If she were mine, I'd not be panicking but I'd eyeing an ivermectin+praziquantel combo for the next worming!

On the upside, if she's in that kind of good weight with big tapeworms in her system, then she might be a SUPER easy keeper! Hooray for cute, easy-keeping ponies!

So far, she's pretty easy. Don't worry, she's not on that grass 24/7. They are on day turnout right now.
