So Maya's "new" pony hates our roll top and he also hated a jump at the show this weekend which had the same green artificial grassy stuff on it. We are looking to find some of it so we can cover a box and make him jump it every... dang... day, and probably sleep with it in his stall :teehee: What is it and where do I find it? cheap cheap cheap is necessary, just has to look the same, not thick pile or anything.

Lowes. Outdoor fake grass carpet. You can buy it in whatever length you want, and you can even out it in his stall lol. We have a big piece that we move around to different jumps.

Haha, thats what we do to ours. We sometimes will put it on the ground and hack over it. We even lead our foals over it.

Bet you can find it in blue as well ... when I was little I also had a pony who hated rolltops/coops of any sort. We did lots of schooling at home and she finally got over it. Then we went to a little schooling show that had these boxes covered in the blue outdoor carpet, and pony went WTH NO!

So then we got some blue carpet boxes at home too. :teehee:

LOL OLR... he has kind of a long list of :jaw: jumps in his repetoire so I'm sure we'll be at this awhile ;) I will keep an eye out for the blue too!

Great idea. My trainer's first year horse apparently had a HUGE issue with rolltops that presented itself in February - at a horse show nonetheless. So ours got dug out of the tool shed and he jumped it 18 bajillion times, in addition to having his own "lunch box" - the handyman made him his own mini rolltop that went everywhere with him at first. In his stall, to the warm-up ring at the horse show, under his warm-up jump at the shows, etc.

Desensitization is definitely key. Good luck!

lol that is great DW! I love how he had his own mini to follow him whereever he goes. I really would love to find a little box covered in it, but i guess I have to be handy and somehow make one.

You can make your own little covering for the horse show schooling fences out of polar fleece. My trainer borrowed my quarter sheet one day, to jump a spooky pony over and when he put it over the jump with the opening for the body hanging down, it looked just like a wall with a cutout in it. I think I need to design a whole series of stuff with bricks and flowers. In your case, just some green polar fleece would work.

OK we're buying a roll top ;) found an 18 inch with stone wall on the other side that was a demo for a jump manufacturer and we're going for it. Thanks for all the suggestions though!

Oh good! I have a roll top and I love it, but I also have a 2nd one in the ring made with the material draped over barrels. Another trick is to wrap rails in it and make astro turf rails--I saw them at a show and thought they were great.

Great idea on the rails with the astro turf... he's going to be SO sick of roll tops and the grassy stuff.. I'm sure he'll find something else he doesn't like
