I was just wondering if anyone had tried the Smartpak Bradley breeches. I have been following the thread on COTH, but I was just looking for other opinions. I really like the material of the breeches, but the fit is a bit odd to me. I wear size 30 in Ariat and Tailored Sportsman and those have always fit well. I also have two pairs of FITS breeches that are size Small. After reading reviews on TOB about a baggy waistband and realizing that size 30R would be out of stock for a few months in Tan, I went with a 28R. I took a bathroom break at work so I could try the breeches on. Here are my thoughts so far: 1. They did a really good job with the material and I really like the sock bottom. I have two pairs of FITS breeches with the mesh bottom and I think the sock bottom will be better because the mesh tends to irritate my skin if I don't put my socks on first. 2. I like the pockets and the idea of the euro seat. I feel like this specific euro seat design makes my butt look bigger than it already is. I'm not normally a huge front zip breeches fan (it's that whole hunter princess thing), I do think these look fairly nice. 3. Some of the stitching is not first quality. There are some not so good looking spots. 4. The legs fit strangely. I almost always buy long length breeches, but after seeing that on TOB these rung long, I went with a regular length and I'm glad I did. I'm only 5'6, but in TS breeches especially, I like to go with a long otherwise they shrink and are too short. The regular length in the Smartpak breeches goes down to my ankles, making them about 3 inches or so longer than my ariat pro circuit breeches that are long length. My calves are about 14" without breeches and between the widest part of my calf and just above my knee, the breeches are pretty tight. I don't feel like I have awkwardly large knees either. The knee patches seem pretty average as far as suede quality. Overall, I think Smartpak has the right idea with these breeches, but they need some fine tuning. For the price, $90 with my $10 off for having my horse on Smartpaks, I'm going to keep them. As far as fit and overall quality, there is a reason these are $40 less than the TS and FITS breeches. Hopefully the next round will be better in quality and fit. Until then, I will see how these ride and hold up. |
