I love RR's advice.

And K I agree with you on your sentiments re: corporate America.

BG, I hate to say it, but co-worker may not even come back at all... happens more often than not it seems. And like Jan suggested, she may end up having to go out early as well.

Lots of luck on the position you applied for today!!!

Life is too short to hate your job.
I have forgotten what it's like to work at a job I don't hate. I feel for you, I spend 8 hours a day trying to NOT run out of the building screaming and tearing my hair out.
K you hit it on the nail. I think I should be bald by now with the way my job treats its employees.

I share those thoughts on her not coming back from maternity leave. I have a coworker who just found out she's preggers and she plans on not returning. She has not told our supervisor yet either. Plus she just started the job not even 3 months ago. :sigh: I can't blame her though my work place sucks and I can't begrudge anyone for not wanting to come back.

B.G. hang in there until you can find another position, but stand your ground on not doing the other girls position. Good Luck. ;)

The company owners don't care about you or your feelings of being overwhelmed with extra work; they care about how much money the company is making and how you do and do not contribute to the bottom line.
And this summarizes the problem with the US, and increasingly the world, in a nutshell. This is what it has all come down to and this is why we are screwed collectively and individually.
Sadly, truer words have never been spoken. I work at in health care at a large medical center. The truth is nobody matters. The bottom line IS what matters. What management cares about is what do to make the hospital money. That's it, no more. Patient care falls to the bottom of the priority list. SO frustrating and depressing. :brickwall:

And the funny thing is there is a large and growing group of people in America who believe we should privatize more and more of the things we once thought of as basic human rights.

I guess as much as a complain about my job, the one thing I appreciate about it is that people do seem to care about each other, and it is more secure than working for a big corporation. But as the Universities become more and more profit motivated this too is changing. The University system I work for is a mess - sports coaches, doctors and administrators making millions while professors and lecturers work more and make less.
