Yeah not a lot of turnout here. All horses go out in small pens for a few hours. Luna gets no turnout other than her attached large run (but it's still a run, not a paddock). Hence my need to let her lose for a minute. I would never lunge with another person riding in the ring. Just can't do it even if they say it's fine. As an aside, I went to collect her because I didn't want her to tear the ring up, despite being told it's fine. She was literally lose for less than 2 minutes.

Why pick the feet before leaving the arena? So as not to track stuff through the barn?

My understanding about the foot-picking rule is that it has to do with leaving the expensive footing in the ring where it belongs and not having the horses track it out into the barn, wasting it.

Not many people down here have an indoor, so I've never personally come across that rule. I *have* come across one BM who had a hoofpick hanging outside every stall door and you were required to pick your horse's feet every time you took him out of the stall for any reason.

Ahhhh ok onelane. That makes a little more sense, sort of. lol

Updated to say that the BM (who I adore) called to apologize and let me know that she felt badly leaving things up in the air so we talked for a minute and we both get each other. ;) I apologized too, btw.

Aww, hey, that's a good sign that she called and y'all were able to smooth things over. :)

I guess it's just a period of adjustment, and the phone call and resolving the issue sounds like a very adult thing to do. I think things will work out as soon as the Princess gets used to the turnout situation, and especially with the advent of colder weather she's going to be full of energy too.

Yep..... I guess they like to leave the footing in the indoor. But 20 years of horses around here and I've never heard of doing it, and heck no one had told me. You also have to pick feet in the stalls, not in the aisles or grooming stalls. All fine, but hello, tell me! Don't get PO'd at me because I don't know....

Whoever said full moon... wasn't it a few days ago?! Perhaps would explain all the craziness.

J I think you should swing a leg over!!! Wheeee so exciting!

Glad y'all were able to patch it up! FWIW, I agree with Kassandra-- not a fan of horses turned out to run in arenas. However, around here in VA, everyone pretty much has ample turnout, so it's not usually necessary. I can see where it would annoy people, but like you said, nobody was around (or so you thought since you couldn't see thru the wall) and you had permission. Trainer might be a bit of a diva, but heck, she could've just been having a bad day. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

It sounds to me like it might be time for Miss Thang to get a j-o-b so she can burn off some of that energy! Can you get the trainer (other one, not this one) to hop on her a few times first to get the sillies out?

And I have to add, I have absolutely zero barn drama since it's me, myself and I... which is lovely except that it is also me, myself and I when it's dark and freezing outside or when I'm sick, etc. There are actually times that I miss boarding! ;)

 to you and the Loons!

I've never heard of the hoof picking thing either, I'm sure I would have been made to feel like a tool about that as well Flash.

Jaci, I think it speaks volumes that the BM called you. It sounds like she is a nice person and also recognized the situation was handled very poorly. Can you imagine if you were still at the other barn? :psycho:

Oh J that is great she called you. Says a lot about her! Not many BM's would take the time to do that.

I'm really glad she called you too! Leaves it much better!

I have no issue with horses being turned out in arenas....but I hate the "get the lunge whip and get the sillies out of her" attitude that we had at the lesson/boarding barn when we bought our little mare. If they don't have sillies...chasing them with a whip only gives them sillies! :psycho: :pissed:

Sorry that you've endured your first 'issue' at the new place. Let it go, it will be a long lost memory eventually.

I am not a fan of the loose horse in the area either, but if it's allowed, then it's allowed. I am a fan of loads of activity in the barn to desensitize everyone. ATV? bring it. Small children shooting 'hoops' down the aisle hollering? perfect. Barking and playing dogs? fine

Someone elses horse losing their cookies in the indoor? no big deal. I am so thankful where Corey was boarded most of his life was loaded with excitement. He barely turns a hair at most things; I am grateful.

Some of the other barn ladies, not so much. Personal preference, I guess.... :)

AndI agree with Corey - bring it on. I want all the crap to happen at home where I can bail off or repeat the door/ATV/Bike whatever until horse goes 'ho hum, big whoopity doo' - rather then have melt down on the road somewhere.

Glad the phone call came - sounds like she wants to have a positive relationship too. :cheer:

Yeah, it's all fine every once in a while, maybe even regularly. But chaos all the time? I do like peace and quiet every once in a while, it's the reason I enjoy being outside with my horse.

I'm sorry that you are dealing with barn drama...part of why I like the peace of our small, private barn. But my real question is, how can Colorado have no turnout? I thought that was just for places around Los Angeles and other urban areas. I had no idea they didn't have turn out. When I was last out there, we went to meet a camel who was grazing in a huge field with horses. :innocent:
