I think you guys need to just tell me to let it go! Had a minor (at least to me) incident at the barn but I can't seem to let it go!

I love the move, but it's hard being in new places. *le sigh*

Yes, on a regular basis. The barn I am at always has SOMETHING going on, ALWAYS. Weed whacking around the arena, a herd of deer running through the barn, turkeys, vacuum cleaners in the barn, the water truck being filled up, arenas being dragged, farm hands running around on their farm equipment, it's enough to drive someone crazy (especially trying to ride a young horse).

Try to take a deep breath and move on as best you can.

Constantly. And I'm at a 3-horse barn where 2 of the horses are mine! :innocent:

Just let it go. Remind yourself how hard it is to find good care in a good location at a good price, and letting go will be easier. ;)

Hang in there, J! I know it is hard being in a new place. I moved Bella 2 weeks ago, to a barn I'd been at a few years ago so not totally unfamiliar... but I'm still disoriented. Just little things like "where the ^%$# is the light switch" are annoying.

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. 4 horse barn, on MY property...2 of the horses are mine.

Drama like......daughter lets horse step through reins and breaks them. Then, the following week, stuffs jeans into tall boots w/ zippers (that I never wanted to buy anyway) and breaks zipper. :brickwall:

That sort of drama?

Or....ground nests of bees? We had that drama last week too. :psycho: :brickwall:

Luckily we don't have too much "boarder" drama, if you don't count my kids. ;)

Trying but still re-running it in my brain. I feel I was slighted so I guess that's it. Also, I don't know anyone (really well) and no one knows me (at all), so I'm not sure if this person is just normally a DIVA type, or if it's "just me" lol

Long story short:

indoor arena is in the middle of the barn with the horses stabled in tow barns flanking...in other words...the horses in ths stalls can hear but not see what's going on. On trainer is on one side and another trainer is on the other side with grooming stalls at the fronts of both. Luna is kept in an outside barn.

Anyway, I usually work her early in the AM when not many people are around, so that if she has an, erm, opinions, we won't create any ripples. So far this has never been an issues because othe than tacking up, no one uses the indoor. SO...usual routine is tack up, lead to indoor or outsoor (whichever is unoccupied) and turn her lose for ten minutes to stretch and run (this is permitted...I asked) then attach line and start working. Again, no problems so far.

I have not been at the barn all weekend, so I figured miss Thang would be pretty wired. Did my usual thing then headed to the arena to find a nice person lunging a 4 year old. Asked if I could come in and just walk Loons around and she says, "oh sure! You can lunge if you like". I politely decline stating that she is pretty amped so I will wait and just walk her around. No biggie. Person finishes and wwe chat a bit because she rides a big, opinionated mare too, so we compared notes. She leaves arena so I say "Door!" and hit button to close auto door. I wait a few seconds then turn Loons lose. She rips up the middle of the arena, then slams on the brakes at the other side and snorts loudly. I look down to pick up my lunge line so I can go and re-attach her as she's being pretty unruly and just decide we'll have to get out early Wednesday to try again. Just at that moment the BM comes FLYING aroudnt he corner and says, "what's going on?!?!"" I said Luna is a little full of her self. The trainer comes around behind her and says, "my horse in the cross ties is not handling the noise well so you need to put her (Luna) on the line". I apologized, told her I didn't know that Luna would be so full of it and I was already on my way to get her (as Luna is flying by me crow hopping  ) to which trainer says, "well you need to work her on the line. Why can't you??". At this point I was pretty preturbed. I just lifted both of my hands in Luna's bucking tantrum direction and gave her the "that's why!" look. She then stated the "well my horse can't see what's going on!" Now this is the same trainer who has watched me work this horse nearly every morning while she's going about her tacking up and such and KNOWS this is not her normal behavior.

I was not upset that she asked me to stop while her horse was freaking out. TOTALLY understandable.

Minutes later the BM (who I adore and who is great friends with said trainer) stops and says, "I know you're usually here when no one else is, but you're going to have to keep her on a line". :duh:  :sigh: Yes we've covered this. I tried to tell her that I just had no where else to turn her out this morning and AGAIN stated that she's been really well behaved and I didn't expect suich shennigans and was ALREADY on my way to collect her when they came out. To finish that comment, I just said, "you know what? I can't see through walls and I already apologized".

Then I stood in the middle of the ring and worked Luna and sobbed.

Also I think my pride was dented. I go to great PAINS to stay out of other peoples way and I ALWAYS excuse myself if my horse is not behaving or skip working her that day because I certainly don't want anyone to get hurt on my account.

Oh Jaci I can understand why it bugged you. I'd be upset too. Sometimes BM's and trainers can be kind of condescending without realizing it, and it sounds like perhaps it came across that way. This ain't your first rodeo! You know your horse! And you were doing the best you could to mitigate the situation.

Frankly if the horse in the crossties wasn't handling things well, maybe HE should have a little more exposure.

If it is any consolation, a few weeks ago, the BM and the barn where I am teaching got a little porky with me over a custom that was totally foreign to me and of which I had no knowledge. (before leaving the indoor you have to pick out your horse's feet.) It made me feel like a tool!

It's hard being in a new place. It's doubly hard being in a new barn. Hugs to you, I hope tomorrow is a better day!!!

Funny thing is Flashy, the horse on the cross ties is a SOLID CHILDRENS horse! Apparently he's "been there done that" and showed all over the US until he retired to teach kids. So I am just left wondering if she's just a type A control freak diva or what? I mean what to the other horses do when they turn them lose in the indoor? Stand there looking placid??

Just dented pride I suppose and people having no knowlege. I've never been able to get "friendly" with this trainer, perhaps now I know why. It's a busy barn. I just expect Luna to adapt or die. Doors move. People pop around corners. Horses move by sight unseen. Tractors go up and down the aisles. This is her life and so far she's been pretty stallar about everything...as long as she gets a minute of freedom to collect her thoughts ;)

Ahhhh well. I feel a little badly that I pretty much told BM "I'm done" with my statement above, but really? How many times to we need to rehash this?

Sorry guys! KMD is working 18 hour days :o so you lucky TOCers get to hear me whine. :point:

On an upnote, luna hads been wonderful to work, even after todays blow-up. She's going really well in the long lines and this weekend KMD is going to help me pony her around on the straight away's and MAYBE I'll throw a leg over. :innocent: :luck: :innocent: :luck: :innocent: :luck:

UGH. Maybe it's the full moon or something, but good gracious has the amount of general crazy gone up in the last few days. Both of those situations could have been easily prevented with a little common sense and good communication.

If loose horses being horses in the indoor isn't allowed, don't tell someone she can do that and then jump on her when *gasp* her horse acts like horses sometimes do. I'm kind of surprised a trainer would be the one having a conniption, but then I've had the great pleasure of working around a few folks who think the entire world should come to a screeching halt when they're working with their horses, and they can't deal with any sort of distraction whatsoever. But really, from a ruckus standpoint, is it really going to be that much quieter with her being a doofus on the line versus loose?

Guess I've always been fortunate enough to be with trainers who expect their horses to deal with stuff like that. I also think that horses who are expected to deal with other horses acting like fools, noisy trucks going by, ATVs, etc., without losing their cookies are a lot better off when the $hit really hits the fan and a hot air balloon makes an emergency landing in your pasture, or there's a huge marijuana bust in the state-owned forest behind your farm complete with helicopters and news crews.

If you as a BM want horses' feet picked before they exit the ring, PUT A FREAKING SIGN UP and have a hoofpick hanging from a hook right at the entrance to the indoor.

It is truly amazing to me sometimes how some people expect you to be telepathic, and it's almost always the sort of thing that a simple sign or a posted set of rules would address.

Flashy that is a pretty wierd custom! Really? BEFORE you leave the ring? Ok.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't see through walls, fortell the future or receive telepathic communiations from BO's and trainers. :point:

Thanks for letting me vent

The rule about picking feet as you leave the ring is common around here... but I've NEVER seen it anywhere else!

And J... could it be that she just hates the fact horses are allowed to be turned out? Some people don't like it... we always did it at the old barn, and there was always someone (usually a specific someone) who would get in a huff

I admit, I hate people turning out horses in arenas, it's one reason I board somewhere with 20 turnouts that range in size from small to arena sized, and that does not allow lunging or turnouts in the main arenas.

But...if it's allowed at the barn there's not a whole heck of a lot that anyone can do to "control" a turned out horse that decides to act up.
