This past weekend I headed up with the squid-o to Estes to check out the Highland Festival (Irish/Scottish) and OMGiH it was amazing! Big crowds (boo) and lots of "been there done that" things, but the bands were amazing and the men in kilts were just divine!!!! When we arrived yesterday on the grounds, I was immediately drawn to the sounds of primal drumming from one of the huge event tents. I was delighted to find an AMAZING group of folks who call themselves "Albannach". Two huge bass drums, one set of regular drums, plus steel drums, a bodhran or two and of course a ROCKING bagpipe!!!!! It was all very "outlaw" William Wallace and they drew a termendous crowd. They are from Scotland, but they tour all over the US in the summer at pubs and festivals and if they are coming your way (they are heading for the east coast next week) you really should get out and see them. Not your typical drums and pipes. They even have their own tartan and they wear kilts while they play (of course!).As we were leaving yesterday, 5 knights in full body armour cam walking by having just finished the jousting (we missed it!!), but they made a pretty amazing site, except for the tall knight, kicking back a SPRITE! Squid-o casually commented to him as we passed and said, "I think your Sprite takes away from your knight-ly-ness..." To which he responded (in thick Scotttish brough), "Whale I'm tharsty, lass!!". I did get some photos so I will post them later for you guys and a short clip of the band (did I mention they were AMAZING!??!!??) Here is their website and tour dates: http://www.albannachmusic.com/tour/index.html OOOO youtube clip!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0mypcwk2M4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Td97OuQyYY Oh yes, I LOVE Colorado!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm 1/2 scottish and loveeeeeeee bagpipes and share your love of men in kilts. I think its awesome. Sounds like something I would want to see! and also, it sounds like you had an incredible day....I loved wee squid-o's comment about the sprite...she's a little cheeky eh? hahaha. I'd probably have been nervous to comment about a huge man in armour when i was little

If you get a chance to go and support this band live DO IT! Honestly they moved the entire crowd to motion! People were dancing everywhere. Thay make you want to grab a turkey leg and a man in a kilt and dance around the bonfire!!!! ![]() Aston the wee squid-o is actually pretty reserved and polite. I don't know what motivated her to comment lol! He was very nice. I have a great photo of this huge, strapping Scotsman downing his beverage in full armour. I will post it later when I get back from the barn.

Jill, sorry...i should clarify, i didn't mean that she was not polite. Cheeky can be more of a little cute in circumstances. Her just saying it how it is. Kinda like how most kiddies are..... hope there was no offence

I've been jamming to the CD all week in the car. lol ...flying down the highway with the moonroof open...blarring bagpipes and drums. |
