I've been invited to a costume party where everyone is supposed to dress up like a song. Shortly before the party, the party host will gather everyone's songs into a playlist for the party. It's a grad student party so irreverent or ridiculous ideas will be appreciated, and we're not expected to spend a fortune on the costume.

Please help me think of songs and costumes! The only idea I have so far is Cake's "Short Skirt Long Jacket" (short skirt, long jacket, fingernails that shine like justice, shoes that cut, carry around a piece of shredded red tape, put up my hair and play with my jewelry.) DH thinks I should go as the viral video hit "Russian Unicorn", (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YjaZNYSt7o0), which would be highly appropriate for a Digital Media Studies person.

Other ideas? I considered "Walk Like an Egyptian" but it would be a pricey costume. And I'm not classy enough to pull off "Uptown Girl."

Go nekked, Lady GaGa's "Born This Way?"

I'll try to think of something more reasonable later. :teehee:

...you could wear MEAT like she did....make it out of felt....drape it over your shoulders like a poncho and then draw some steaks on it..

Or you could go as anything the black-eyed peas....and give yourself a black eye...and Paint a "P" on your shirt...

You could go all pink and girly and do "Barbie Girl" (though then you might have to face the wrath of everyone at the party for getting that song stuck in their head...)

How about wearing a blue dress with devil horns? "Devil in the Blue Dress."

This is awesome! The Dollar Store would have a Devil's fork, and a tail!

Brilliant!

The party goers will probably be too young, but Lovely Rita (the Beatles) would be cute...

"...Lovely Rita meter maid

Lovely Rita meter maid,
Nothing can come between us.
When it gets dark I tow your heart away.

Standing by a parking meter,
When I caught a glimpse of Rita,
Filling in a ticket in her little white book.
In a cap she looked much older,
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man. ..."

"Candy Man" and staple pieces of candy in wrappers all over an outfit. Then people could pull them off and eat them throughout the night. You'd be the hit of the party. You could also do the same thing with that "Lollipop" song from the 50s.

You could do The Ting Ting's "That's Not My Name." You could dress however and then put a bunch of those "Hello my name is:" sticker tags on your shirt with all the names from the song (Stacy, Jane, Mary Jo, Lisa, etc) and then have the names crossed off. Then you could have one with either your real name on it or just a big ?.

OMG, you guys are brilliant! This one is particularly amazing, especially because there will be lots of first-year grad students at this party that only know me on sight but not by name. I will either have to do this one or give it to a friend!

DH and I went to see that movie Horrible Bosses last night, and while it was a lame movie, there were a lot of good comedy moments--including one of the characters accidentally getting super high on cocaine and singing "That's Not My Name" in a VW Jetta. I hope it ends up on Youtube because it's awesome.

If I'm sufficiently motivated in the week before the party to do things like paint my nails (so that they shine like justice), I'm pretty in love with the Cake idea. Otherwise the Ting Tings thing can be done last minute with a single trip to the office supply store!

When I was driving to the barn, every song I heard I tried to thing of how you could dress up to match it. It was an entertaining project.
