So...the invite said Black Tie. I wrote my friend (bride) and asked if DH needed a tux, and told her I had a beautiful (read: heavy) black, beaded floor length black tie cocktail dress so I was set. She told me basically they said Black Tie was only so that her soon to be hubby's friends wouldn't show up looking like crap, and that I would want to wear a short dress since we were coming to the after-party for dancing, and that DH should wear a suit. I was thinking of wearing my Shelli Segal short cocktail dress. Its a summer cocktail dress with a bright daisy pattern. Can I wear this, do I need to wear something subdued? |

That's really pretty, but somehow not formal enough in my mind... hmmm. Can you go "little black dress" with some stunning shoes/accessories? |

I would definitely say something in between the two - short but dark, the first one is too casual. What size are you? I'm probably 20 minutes from you and might have something that would work. |

I'm a 2 or thereabouts....that's the problem, most of what I have is from before I lost weight and I haven't gotten anything else! Trixie - that's so nice of you! |

That second dress - WOWZA. I LOVE it, but agree that something that splits the difference would be ideal... |

GFF -- If you've got the time, I would zip out to someplace like Nordstrom's or Macy's and grab a cute simple black cocktail dress. Guarantee that you'll have plenty of opportunities to use it again and it doesn't have to be $$$. |

I always have great luck finding cocktail dresses at JC Penny for about $15.00 or under. They always have a great clearance rack. I agree that you need something that splits the difference. |

The pink lacey one on the left is cute. That could be a good happy medium. And it's got some fun color in it too so you could play with pink accessories. I can't really tell what the one on the right looks like. |
