So we're putting up the new barn - and hubby wants the cupola on the roof, and the house tv antenna to the barn so his radio gets more stations. Yesterday he was trying to put the antenna up on the barn when the ladder shifted. Ladder and antenna went to the right (thank god or it would have landed on him) and hubby went left. From 8' up. Onto his back. Oh and his right leg got tangled in the ladder..... So he took 2 of my pain pills from the cyst issues and....... WENT BACK UP THE LADDER. did not seek medical help - there is major heat int he back plus swelling - the calf is 3x the size of the left one with heat. I'm just speechless. Except for FOOK!! again. |

Yikes! At least it wasn't his head but still...he probably should get his butt to a doctor just to make sure he hasn't done some serious damage to other body parts. If he won't listen to you, will he listen to all of us? Tell him that the collective TOC contingent want him to go to the doc (and those of us who may or may not be meeting up with you in the near future when you come out to the VA area would be glad to chastise him in person should he not listen now) |

Men. Mine is finally getting to the point where he will go to the doctor, or at least the chiropractor, when he's hurting. Hope he isn't hurt too badly. I know you're encouraging him to seek medical attention... hopefully he listens. he feels better soon!

My 70+ yr old dad has fallen off the ladder and roof a few times (apparently he thinks he's bionic)... and he never goes to the doc. What can you do? Darn men! |

He's sore and moving like he is 90. And he was supposed to play in a golf outing - I did not even ask. But I am hoping he was wise enough to not go, or if he went he did not attempt to play. Pfft. you are correct ghh: maybe he hit his head too.

Don't hate me DQ, but I'm going to side with the Milkman on this one. I'm fairly accident prone, and know when I've done something to myself serious enough to merit a trip to the doctor. I had a fall like MM's a few years ago, although it was an 8-foot fall off of stacked hay rather than a ladder. Yes, I was very sore and banged up, and I had to take it easy for several days. I had heat and swelling in various places. But I knew I was just badly bruised and hadn't done anything to my back or neck. So I toughed it out for a few days and then was fine. So I would say that for now, best to supply him with ice packs and Alleve. And if he's not much better by Monday, THEN you should start the nagging. And BTW, YOU'RE COMING TO VIRGINIA SOON??!! How did I miss this??

I am so sorry to hear this! awful! But at the same time, if he's toughing it out, I commend that. Unless its something really critical like a head injury, the swelling and heat might resolve itself in due course. If it doesn't then thats a good way of diagnosing something more serious. If he's taking it easy its likely he won't injure it further........although, you did mention a golf tourney....i can't imagine swinging a club would be good for a sore back Get well soon Mr DQ
