My poor 70 yr old mom was viciously bitten by a dog belonging to her best friend. Took a big chunk out of her arm....damn dogs.

She hates this dog always has. She was visiting her friend, dog was loose in the yard and just came at her. Granted the dog has a litter of puppies but that is unacceptable. My moms er doc says its likely to get infected and she will probably have to have surgery. I just wish I was closer so I could help her.

Oh man MT. Dog bites can be really nasty. My mom is a nurse and has seen quite a few. I'm glad your mom got prompt medical treatment. Sometimes people don't go to the hospital or doc right away, because at least here in NYS, the healthcare professional who treats the bite has to report the incident to the Health Department. Which means the dog is then at risk. So... people delay treatment... which is never good.

Will keep her in my thoughts, let us know how she does.

Did she file a police report? Did the doctor in ER file a police report?

She may lose this friend over the situation, but what if she was a 7 yr old child? Arms of 70 yr olds are at face height of 7 yr olds.

It's too late to save herself from the dog bite but not too late to save a child, or another person.

I agree DQ, this is her best friend, since the late 1960s... but they live in a very family oriented neighborhood. I can't help but wonder what would have happened should a kid have wandered into the yard. My mom mentioned that the dog was going back to her breeder, but I don't know if she filed a report or what she told the ER doc... I'll have to find out. I know her friend is heartsick.

If her friend is really a good friend, and has proper ethics, she will do the responsible thing and have the dog put down herself.

It is a terrible, terrible thing when it happens, but as a dog owner, you have got to be responsible for the behavior of your dog.

Best of luck to your mom, MT, as she recovers. Sorry for all parties in this one. No one comes out a winner.
