Since apparently we've now made national news I figured I would start a topic here in case anyone is interested in helping the displaced horses. Over 600 homes have already been destroyed, 2 people have died, lots of loss of pets and livestock. Bastrop is a very horsey area so several barns have burned down. Luckily most of the ones I know of were able to evacuate their horses, but there is still a big need for support for all of these animals. This fire is now 24 miles wide, spans 20 miles across and is still burning out of control. This is far from over, and the last thing we needed in a place where hay was already so scarce due to the drought. If anyone would like to help by donating money towards feed and hay here is some information on how to do that: "Thousands of animals have been forced into shelters due to the horrific wildfires gripping central Texas. These animals are in dire need of feed, hay and other supplies. At this time The Feed Station in Austin, Tx is accepting donations and transporting food to these animals. To donate money towards feeding these displaced animals please call The Feed Station at 512-301-7788" The Red Cross is also taking donations for people. Edited by lhunterl, Sep 6 2011, 03:19 PM.

Here's an even easier way to help: A local feed store has set up a Paypal account for donations. Every little bit helps get some much needed feed and supplies to these horses! BASTROP FEED PAYPAL FUND We're now up to 1300 homes lost and the fire is only 30% contained. Thousands of familes and hundreds of horses are now homeless and will be for the forseeable future. Several area arenas/show grounds/stables have taken in as many horses and other livestock as they can but supplies are much needed. Everyone's hay/grain/med supplies burned right along with their barns and homes. Edited by lhunterl, Sep 8 2011, 10:13 AM.

I know that feeling all too well. Sent in a little money to the paypal account. In thanks for what TOC has done for me since my fire. Hope things get better out there soon. I live in fear every day that I don't have a trailer. |
