YEAH Diva!!! Congrats!! We'll all keep each other at it!

Tonight I run again, last ngiht was my 'off' night and I WANTED to run. I should have w/o the app but I rode a bit longer instead.
tonight is my night too. I think I'm on day four of the app. I work 12 hour shifts the next two days, so my next running days will be Saturday and Monday. Check back later and let us know how it goes, I'll do the same.

OK, can I do this without a phone app? I hate phones and phone apps.!! And I hate running to music anyway. (I am zen runner.....breathe in, breathe out). ;) I'm totally up for this because I look fat in my dog show videos. :sigh: I used to run and loved it.........but everytime I start up again I either give up or get hurt. Need to realize I am old and not going to run 7:30s anymore.

TBF, you do not need an i-Anything to follow the couch to 5k program. You need a timer and to be able to count to 9. Even I can do that.

Check out the program. It really eases you into running, reducing the likelihood of injury. Go for it!

My DH is doing the couch to 5k program, and so far he's doing OK. He was spending a lot of time on the elliptical before, and so was I when it was 100 degrees here. But the last few weeks have cooled off nicely, so I'm back to running outside with my pups.

I have issues with my knees; they're poorly conformed and cause me pain when I try to do too much running too quickly. I did OK with Couch to 5k until about week 5 or 6, and then my knees started bothering me a lot. I started going to an osteopath too, and he's got me on a running program that is very, very conservative. It's based on heart rate and involves a long warm up and a long cool down. My usual route is about 2.5 miles and it takes me ~35-40 minutes to do it (I am SLOW). Of course the hotter it is out, the more walking I do and the less running, because the heat and humidity get my heart rate up higher than when it's more pleasant out.

I did a 5k back in June and it was in the 90s; it was miserable and my time was 9 minutes off my usual time. My next one is at the end of October ... so even if we have an 80+ degree day, at least the humidity shouldn't be that high. I'm looking forward to that one. :)

I do think eventually I'll have to give up running and either walk or bike. I doubt my knees are going to let me become one of those awesome 50-year-old women who run marathons. But I can walk all day long. ;)

Done for today. Week 2, day 1 completed. It was 90 second runs followed by 2 minute walks. 5 minutes warm up before and after for a total of 20 minutes. Very hot day, no shade and several good hills. Why is it computer lady tells me to run right at the bottom of every hill? I swear she knows!

Came home and jumped in the much loved outdoor shower and now I feel great.

I'm wondering if we should take this thread to a Facebook group? Would be a lot easier IF all involved are on Facebook.

I usually walk about 3 miles, and try to ride my bike a short way as well. As long as I do something to get my heart rate up I'm happy on the off days. Three days a week I am at work though and I work 12 hour shifts, so those days are out. I do walk a TON at work, but not like for cardio. I figure it's good for something though. I also use the stairs whenever I can, and some days that's a lot of stair climbing.

I ride my bike for transportation, so I log between 5 and 10k a day; all flat, but it gets my heart going. I do that every day, even on "training days." <--says she who is on DAY 2.

I'm on FB, if you want to move over there. I also have two eventing friends who are just starting the C5K this week, both of whom are on FB. So if we go there, more people.

I tried to start a FB group and thought that everyone could search for it and then request membership. However, FB will not let me start the group without adding some of my friends initially. If anyone wants to PM me their real name, I could friend request you and then start the group. Or we could just stay here. I think FB is better because you get a notification when someone posts. Also, we can get to "know" each other better on FB.

Okay, I created an open FB group called TOC - Couch to 5K. You can search the groups for it and I hope request membership. It's an open group so I hope it works. If enough people aren't FB members, we can always just hang out here.

Ladies, I think it's great that so many of you are doing C25K. But please, PLEASE make sure you are running in the right shoes. Running is a cheap hobby but the shoes REALLY matter, as much as your horse's shoes/trim matter to his/her performance. Running in inappropriate shoes can cause you serious injury--everything from shin splints to stress fractures. Not to mention how effortless it feels to run in the right shoes.

I have seen way too many people start a program like C25K, then fall off the wagon in weeks 4 to 6 because of shin splints that were totally preventable if they'd been running in the right shoes. But they blew it off and blew it off, thinking "Oh I'm not running all that much, it's mostly walking, so it's no big deal," and before you know it they were laid up for weeks. Or worse, they ran down to their nearest shoe store and picked a pair of running shoes that "looked cute" and "felt okay in the store" and were "on sale." That would be like picking your horse's farrier because he has a cute ass and was available at a convenient hour of the day and charged $10 less than the other farrier. And this is triply or quadruply important if you're running on sidewalks or concrete roads, which have very little shock absorption.

If you make it through week three or four of C25K, please get thee to a running specialty store and get yourself fitted. They will look at the wear pattern on your existing running shoes, watch you run to get a feel for your stride, ask you about your running goals, and put you in an appropriate shoe for you. If you're in the US you can find such a store with this search engine:
http://www.runnersworld.com/store/search/1,7978,s6-240-417-0-0,00.html

And come back and tell us what kind of shoe they put you in. Runners are big dorks about their shoes--I have literally had people jog up to me on the trail and say "Hey shoe buddy!" because they see we're both wearing the Saucony Grid Omni.

Hmm I may jump into this one... I've been doing My Fitness Pal, 1200 calories a day and tracking my workouts, with zero success. I did just have my doc check my thyroid yesterday, wondering if that is inhibiting weight loss.

I used to run a lot and would love to get back into it. Once my phone is fixed I will have to check the app out!
